Chapter 1 - Class

Whitehall City

Twilight Academy is the most famous academy in Whitehall City.

It was where powerful Awakeners came from.

It was where all geniuses of the city—no matter their background—would study.

It was also a place where failure was not tolerated, not even a little.

And today was an important day.

It was the day third-year students would awaken their classes.

Inside the academy, on the top floor of the eastern wing, one classroom was completely silent.

This was the Third-Year Mortal Class.

The Third Year class is the year when all young boys and girls awaken their class, Today is the day when their destined class will be revealed one that will remain with them for the rest of the life.

The students calmlt sat at their desks waiting for their class turn. Unlike other year classes, there was no laughter or noise. Everyone looked nervous.

Many were even praying to the gods to receive a good combat class.

Because today, hard work would no longer matter.

Only their awakened class would.

Though there was one guy among them whose expressions were more confused then nervous.

What the fuck is happening? Leon mumbled blinking at the weird situation.

Leon looked around. Just moments ago, he had been in a excited mood, ready to play the RNG game totally his way thanks to the newest mod he installed. But now, here he was—sitting in an unknown classroom among unknown students.

But he didn't have to think that long as suddenly many memories begun to surface in his mind, as he experienced a totaly different life one he have never lived yet now living.

So… I died, Leon thought absentmindedly as he processed it.

I died and then got reborn in this game-like world.

From what he understood, he was now in a world at least a hundred times bigger than his previous Earth. It was called Varth.

'Its just the first letter changed' Leon thought but continued to look through the important information in his mind.

Varth was once a science based world like his previous world earth, when suddenly spatial rifts open out of nowhere spewing monsters. Humanity tried to fight back but their modern weapons were not able to do anything to the giant monsters and soon almost 90% of the Varthlings died.

But with danger came oppurtunity new generation begun to born with extraordinary fantasy like super powers. So, they started fighting back.

They were able to reclaim Varth, but the danger did not end there. Over the years, many rifts continued to open, and with each rift—their world—continued to grow. Now, the world was already a hundred times larger than it once was.

And now, millions of years had passed.

Everyone was born with a System—it just wasn't activated at birth. It activated when they reached the age of sixteen, revealing their class and talent.

Classes were many, but over time they had been divided into grades—from the lowest Common Rank to the highest Mythical Rank.

"Common, Uncommon, Rare, Epic, Unique, Legendary, and Mythical," Leon silently remembered the grades of classes.

"It's not just classes—even skills and artifacts are ranked the same way," Leon nodded to himself.

"And I am Leon Arkwright, an orphan who lost his family to such a rift," Leon mumbled as painful memories appeared in his mind.

A memory that was from original Leon fifth birthday.

Leon, his mother, and his father celeberating in a restaurant when suddenly alarm begun to ring in the city, it was Rift break, a phenomenon when the rift is not cleared it will begun to spew out monsters.

It was an army of Orcs that came out of Rift.

Leon's family was the first to bear the attack being close to window.

His mother and father were non-combat class Awakeners—a tailor and a blacksmith. They tried to fight, but with a single overwhelming strike, they were killed.

Leon was under the table.

He was only able to survive cause the awakened arrived to save him but it was late as Leon just hid there frozen as he looked at his dead parents.

"Argh…"

Leon closed his eyes as the memory crashed into him.

"Damn… such a pitiful guy," Leon muttered as he continued to shift through the original memories.

For a year, Leon had lived in denial. Then, finally, he accepted it—they were dead. From that moment on, he vowed to become strong enough to kill all rift monsters. That desire became his driving force, the motivation that made him the number one student of his batch in this famous academy.

"But how did he die?" Leon mumbled.

He had read countless stories like this before. They all had one thing in common—the original owner of the body died, and a guest from another world took over.

'Since I'm here, the original Leon must be dead. But why is there nothing in his memories about his death?' Leon thought as he sat there, wondering how Leon had died.

But he didn't get to think any longer.

The classroom door opened.

A very hot teacher walked in.

She was their homeroom teacher, Miss Sydney Kassandra.

She was also a powerful combat-class Awakener—a Fire Knight—and currently a Rank 4 powerhouse.

In this world, everyone started at Level 1 after awakening, and every 100 levels marked a new rank.

Level 1 to Level 100 was Rank 0.

Level 101 to Level 200 was Rank 1.

Level 201 to Level 300 was Rank 2.

And so on.

Miss Sydney Kassandra was Level 450—extremely powerful.

However, she had once sustained a severe injury that cut off her path to greater heights. Because of that, she became a teacher at Twilight Academy.

"Okay, everyone, follow me and form a line," she said, looking at all of them. "Now it's our class's turn."

The students stood up and began to line up properly, heading toward the Awakening Hall.

Before them, Class 3-B was coming out of the hall. Some students looked dejected, while others were clearly happy.

It was obvious—those who were smiling had awakened combat classes, while those who weren't had received non-combat classes.

"Class 3-C, now coming in," Sydney announced.

They walked in line and entered the massive hall.

At the center of the hall, above the stage and in front of it, stood a pedestal. Resting on it was a blue orb. Inside the orb, shifting nebula-like lights swirled endlessly.

It was the Awakening Orb.

A treasure that circulate promodial mana in a person's body, unlocking their System and awakening their class and Talent if they have any.
