Chapter 7 - Ability-Type Metal Chain Fairy Fruit

[Looking at the small island in front, you impatiently rowed your boat, tightly gripping both wooden oars.]

[During the past week, you didn't trade for just upgrade materials but basically any useful items that the survivors were willing to exchange for food.]

[For example, the wooden oars you used were Level 3 Enchanted Wooden Oars, which were much lighter and had increased rowing speed by 30%.]

[You also had traded for other items such as a machete and a harpoon, so you weren't completely defenseless.]

[With the Absolute Compass's magnetic needle pointing towards the island, you confidently disembarked and stepped on the island as soon as your advanced small boat arrived there.]

[Following the Absolute Compass (Orange)'s pointed direction, you gripped a sharp steel machete in your right hand and used it to cut any vegetation that obstructed your way.]

[The small island was visibly deserted and didn't have any native tribes or visitors.]

[The tall grass that reached up to your waist slightly obstructed your path, but you kept on walking and remained vigilant towards your surroundings.]

[After wandering on the island for a quarter of an hour, you finally saw a large tree with large fruits that seemed to be a combination of pears and apples.]

[As you drew closer to the tree, one fruit immediately stood out among the rest.]

[Unlike the others, its surface carried a dull metallic sheen, dark and heavy-looking, with faint chain-like patterns coiling naturally around its body as if they were part of its skin.]

[The fruit was shaped like a pear mixed with an apple, yet it felt strangely out of place, as though it did not belong to a living tree at all.]

[Even without touching it, you could sense an unusual weight emanating from it, not physical pressure but something deeper that made the surrounding fruits grow farther away.]

[The moment your gaze lingered on it, you were certain that this was the Fairy Fruit the Absolute Compass had led you to.]

[You didn't know what Fairy Fruit type it was and what ability you could gain from it. However, you trusted your Absolute Compass (Orange) talent, and it should be the strongest fairy fruit that has the highest compatibility with you.]

[Of course, it might not be the true strongest. Nevertheless, you didn't need the strongest fairy fruit if it's incompatible with you, since the Ocean Survival World isn't the only doomsday scenario that you could take advantage of.]

[Using the Absolute Compass to check, you finally confirmed that it was the Fairy Fruit you were looking for, as wherever you moved, the Absolute Compass's magnetic needle always pointed towards that specific, unique fruit.]

["With this fairy fruit, I should be able to widen the gap between other survivors. I was already behind in terms of personal combat power, but now, I can take the lead again.]

[With that in mind, you took out a bow and arrow from the item inventory that the Survivor Authority had granted to survivors.]

[Placing the arrow, you pulled the string and aimed the bow towards the Fairy Fruit's stem.]

[Releasing your grip on the string, the arrow whistled through the air until it missed the stem and hit nothing.]

["That's embarrassing. My nonexistent archery skills are sure bad. But there's no way I'm climbing that tree as it's too tall, and who knows if any poisonous insects or snakes are living there."]

[Not planning on giving up, you repeated the process of shooting your arrow towards your target, specifically the stem of the Fairy Fruit, so that it would fall off the tree if you hit it successfully.]

[After several more attempts, an arrow finally hit the stem and caused the Fairy Fruit to fall from the tree.]

[Before the Fairy Fruit could fall to the ground, you hurriedly placed your bow and arrow back in your item inventory and caught the Fairy Fruit.]

[Without any hesitation, you took a bite of the Fairy Fruit.]

[As soon as you did, a sweet, tangy taste assaulted your taste buds. A hint of metallic taste, as if you were licking iron, sneaked in, but it didn't taste that bad.]

[Contrary to your expectations, it didn't taste worse than shit and more like an exotic fruit with a weird additional taste mixed into it that seemed to be related to the ability granted by the fruit.]

[For example, the Water Sprite Fruit eaten by King King was claimed by him to taste like spring water, and it seemed to look like a small watermelon.]

[King King didn't know if eating the Fairy Fruit with just one bite would be enough, but he claimed to eat all of his fruit.]

[In your case, you also ate everything, even the fruit skin, seeds, and stem.]

[You also didn't want to take any chances, and besides, it really didn't taste bad and tasted unique, so it wasn't an unpleasant experience.]

["The hint of iron-like taste reminds me of blood, but maybe that's because I don't lick real iron."]

[After giving that comment, you waited for a while and soon felt a new power awakening in your body.]

[It was quite an unusual sensation as it seemed to be an ability that you were born with, yet you know it wasn't. Nevertheless, that did allow you to instinctively know what its capabilities were and how to use them.]

["It seems to be an Ability-Type Metal Chains Fairy Fruit, of the Charm Fruit category. I was kinda expecting an elemental type of fairy fruit, as being able to elementalize and be immune to most, if not all, physical attacks is very convenient. Nonetheless, it's still better than a Hybrid-Type Fae Fairy Fruit."]

["My fairy fruit seems to have the main ability to create and control chains. Not only that, but it also possessed the secondary ability of creating and manipulating metal."]

["However, if this is the only capability of this fairy fruit, it seems quite odd. After all, it's the one that the Absolute Compass suggested, so it should be one of the strongest fairy fruits."]
