Eve sat on her bed thinking about everything that had happened tonight.
She still found it hard to wrap her head around the fact that she was Jude's mate. Why hadn't he rejected her.
She stood up and paced around the room. Was Tina going to be okay? She and Jude had been together for five years, how would she cope?
And was she really going to be Jude's mate?
"Hey dear, are you okay'' Beta Johnson asked as he sat beside her.
"Dad, I can't believe he is my mate"
"And why can't you believe it?"
"I have always felt he and Tina were soulmates. What if this is a mistake?"
"The moon goddess never makes a mistake"
"But what about Tina? This isn't fair for her"
Beta Johnson sighed, "Eve, you need to start thinking about yourself. In your heart,do you really think being Jude's mate is a mistake"
Eve thought about it, that moment when she opened her eyes and saw him, she had felt complete, like a missing part of a puzzle had finally clicked.
"It felt like fate" she admitted.
There was a knock on the front door, "That must be your mate, I will go let him in, is that okay with you?"
Eve nodded, beta Johnson smiled and patted her hair gently before leaving.
Some minutes later, she felt him enter. It took all her willpower not to go into his arms.
He sat beside her and they sat in silence for a while.
"I am sorry" he broke the silence.
"What are you sorry for?"
"For biting you without your consent, I was just panicked when you said you were going to reject me"
"I don't get it Jude, just this morning, you were all loved up with Tina and now you want me to be your mate" Eve was struggling to come to terms with it.
"When I met Tina, it felt like I had found my missing half, I was obsessed with being with her, it was like some force was pushing me to be with her. I tried to resist but I just couldn't..."
"So what changed now?" Eve interrupted him.
"Over the years, that feeling changed, I thought maybe our initial sparks had faded. But today with you, what I felt today was a thousand times more than what I felt with Tina, I don't yet understand it but I know I want to be with you"
Eve stood up, she cleaned her sweaty palms on her gown as she walked to the mirror. She stared at her reflection. Panic clawed up her throat.
"I can't do this Jude, you know I can't. All I have ever wanted was to live a simple life, I cant be Luna or stand beside you, I am not pretty or classy enough"
Jude came beside her, close enough that she could feel his warmth.
"Eve, you are beautiful, and you are classy, you are more than worthy to stand by my side"
"But Tina has been trained by Luna Alice to be Luna, I don't know anything about being Luna"
She shivered as he touched her waist.
"You will learn Eve, you are intelligent and I am confident you will learn it quickly"
"Jude, I am scared" she confessed to him.
He turned her around to face him.
"Eve, it's normal to be scared, but I will be here to support you always"
Their eyes caught as they stared at each other. Jude gently leaned in, just as he was about to kiss her, she turned her head.
"I am sorry,I...I...I" she stuttered.
"It's okay, I understand"
He kissed her forehead and stepped back.
"I have to leave but, I will be back tomorrow to take you to the packhouse to meet my mother"
"See you tomorrow" she whispered.
Jude smiled at her before leaving the room.
He made his way back to the packhouse. The lights were still on, his mother hadn't gone to bed.
He wasn't surprised when she was sitting in the living room waiting for him.
"Have you had anything to eat?" She asked.
He shook his head, she stood and led him to the kitchen.
Jude sat at the kitchen table and watched as she prepared him a sandwich.
"So tonight didn't go as planned" she spoke.
"Yeah, it didn't"
"How is Tina?"
"Hurt and angry at me"
"I don't blame her, I would do the same too. But why didn't you reject Eve" Luna Alice was curious.
"Mom, I couldn't reject my mate, she is my gift from the goddess herself"
"I just don't get how this could have happened, everyone saw the bond between you two" she mused.
"Mom, that's i know what happened wasn't what any of us expected. But Eve is my mate, I want you to accept her and her make her feel at home, she is scared and anxious"
"That isn't a problem, Eve is a good girl and I am quite fond of her. I will make her feel comfortable, I promise"
She placed the sandwich before him and kissed his forehead.
"Everything will be okay son"
"I hope so mom, I am so nervous about the swear in ceremony, is there no way Beta Johnson can continue managing the pack for the main time?"
"Jude, you don't need to be nervous, you will do well as Alpha. And Beta Johnson has done his best managing the pack, he needs to rest"
"I know, I just wish Dad was around"
Luna Alice smiled, "He is looking down on you right now and he is so proud of you"
"I miss him a lot" Jude admitted.
"Me too son"
Jude finished eating and leaned back in the chair.
"It's so weird mom, just this morning, my friends were complete and happy. Now, I have a feeling, our friends group will never be the same"
Luna Alice smiled. "That's part of adulthood my son, things are surely going to change, you just have to accept it"
Jude sighed and stood up, he kissed her cheek. "Goodnight mom"
