Chapter 106 - Extraction Point

The tunnel fell silent.

No drones.

No movement.

Just the faint hum of damaged systems echoing through the concrete.

Aiden leaned against the wall, breathing heavily.

"…okay."

He exhaled.

"…that's enough for today."

His body disagreed.

Pain spread through his muscles.

Every step felt heavier than the last.

But—

He was alive.

And for the first time—

He had controlled it.

Even if just a little.

"…not bad."

A faint crackle came through his comm.

"Aiden… respond."

Hana.

He tapped the side of his ear.

"…still alive."

A pause.

Then—

"…idiot."

He smirked slightly.

"Yeah, yeah."

Her voice steadied.

"Status?"

Aiden pushed himself off the wall.

"Drones cleared. Tunnel secured."

He glanced back at the broken remains behind him.

"…barely."

Another pause.

Then—

"We're at extraction point C."

Aiden frowned slightly.

"…that far?"

Kael's voice cut in—

"You took the scenic route."

Aiden chuckled weakly.

"Had company."

Hana cut back in—

"Can you move?"

He took a step.

His leg almost gave out.

"…yeah."

A short pause.

"…slowly."

Silence on the other end.

Then—

"Get here. Now."

The line cut.

Aiden exhaled.

"…guess I don't have a choice."

He started walking.

Each step echoed through the tunnel.

Not rushed.

Not steady.

But moving.

Above ground—

The city remained tense.

More drones patrolled the skies.

System presence heavier than before.

Not chaotic.

Organized.

Watching.

At extraction point C—

An abandoned transit station.

Hana stood near the entrance, scanning the area.

Kael leaned against a broken pillar.

"He's taking his time."

Hana didn't look at him.

"He's injured."

Kael shrugged.

"He always looks like that."

She shot him a look.

"…this is different."

Silence.

Then—

Footsteps.

Slow.

Uneven.

Both of them turned.

Aiden emerged from the tunnel entrance.

Covered in dust.

Blood staining parts of his clothes.

Movement slightly off.

But—

Standing.

Kael let out a low whistle.

"…damn."

Hana stepped forward immediately.

"You're worse than you said."

Aiden shrugged weakly.

"I said 'barely.'"

She grabbed his arm, steadying him.

"…you pushed again."

He didn't deny it.

"…but it worked."

She paused.

"…what do you mean?"

Aiden looked at his hand.

"…I controlled it."

Kael raised an eyebrow.

"Controlled what?"

Hana's expression changed instantly.

"…how much?"

Aiden hesitated.

"…not much."

A beat.

"…but enough."

Silence.

Kael looked between them.

"…I feel like I missed something important."

Hana ignored him.

Her focus stayed on Aiden.

"…that's dangerous."

Aiden nodded.

"Yeah."

But—

He smiled slightly.

"…it's progress."

Before she could respond—

The ground trembled.

All three of them froze.

"…did you feel that?" Kael asked.

Hana's scanner flickered.

Then—

Spiked.

Her eyes widened.

"…no way."

Aiden's expression sharpened.

"…what?"

She turned the screen toward him.

A massive energy signature.

Not nearby.

But not far either.

"…that's not possible…"

Kael frowned.

"What is it?"

Hana's voice dropped.

"…it's the system."

A pause.

"…but different."

Back deep within the system core—

Final Constant stood in a newly formed chamber.

Its structure had changed.

Sharper.

More refined.

More complete.

[V3 PROTOCOL: 61% COMPLETE]

Energy surged through its core.

For the first time—

It moved.

Not in simulation.

Not in testing.

In reality.

Back at extraction point—

Aiden stared at the readings.

"…it's coming out."

Hana nodded slowly.

"…and next time…"

She didn't finish.

Didn't need to.

Aiden clenched his fist.

The energy flickered faintly again.

Controlled.

But not enough.

"…then we get stronger."

The war had just escalated.

And this time—

There would be no retreat.
