Chapter 23 - chapter 23 - to mysterious letters

I was in a deep sleep, but as always, the faint sunlight slipping through the gap between the curtains fell straight onto my eyes, slowly erasing the depth of my sleep. After a while, I opened my eyes. I thought to myself that yesterday had been extremely exhausting. Still, yesterday I had seen an "Angel" (Mercury) with my own eyes and had helped Misty. The start of the day had been quite good, but it was impossible for everything not to go wrong by the end.

I got out of bed. Today, I had no intention of going anywhere. After getting up, I noticed that Den and Heater were not in the room. That probably meant they had gone to the Underworld. Now I could comfortably do whatever I wanted alone. I went to the washroom to brush, finished my routine, and came out.

By then, there was already a knock at the door—it was Historia, just as I had expected. I had already decided that I would give Historia the question I had brought from the library to solve. I went to my leather bag, opened it, and took out the paper on which the question was written.

Historia was standing outside, asking for permission to come in. I told her to enter. She came into my room, and by then I had pulled a chair and sat down at the table near the window. She took a glass of milk from the tray and placed it in front of me.

The glass of milk touched my lips, but my eyes were fixed on Historia. The silence in the room began to feel heavy. I placed the glass on the table and broke the silence. "Historia, can you do something for me?"

Historia bowed slightly and replied politely, "Master, I am your servant. Please give your command."

I pointed toward the shirt that Heater had rubbed against the mirror last night and dirtied. "Wash and clean that shirt again—the one I wore at the Blackwood family party."

Historia's eyes went to the shirt. A slight surprise appeared on her face. "But Master, I cleaned this shirt yesterday itself and kept it in your wardrobe. How did it get dirty again?"

I ignored her question and cleverly played my real move. "Tell me something, Historia… did you feel anything at that party that you think you've forgotten?"

I asked this because Misty had told me she couldn't remember some things from that night. I expected Historia's answer to be the same. But what she said completely shocked me.

"No, Master. I remember everything from that day. I don't think I've forgotten anything."

Then, without any expression on her face, Historia began speaking. One by one, she narrated all the events like a tape recorder. She described how Roshan attacked, how he transformed into a terrifying monster, and the destruction that followed.

I froze in my chair. My mind went numb. Almost everyone present in the palace had their memories erased—but Historia remembered everything! That clearly meant the Magic Oblivion had no effect on her.

And when I questioned her, she told me everything truthfully because she functioned on logic like an AI (Artificial Intelligence). She didn't lie to me because I asked directly. But the real question was—why had she hidden this from me until now?

I took a deep breath and looked into her eyes. "So… you also remember everything from that night?"

For the first time, Historia was visibly shaken. The calm on her face vanished, and in a low voice she asked, "Master… do you also remember all those things?"

The temperature in the room seemed to drop suddenly. We stared at each other—two witnesses of that night. Hesitating, I said, "I remember some things too." It wasn't entirely true, but I wanted to measure how deep Historia really was.

Hearing this, Historia let out a sigh of relief. "If you remember everything, that's actually a good thing. But how did this happen? No one else in the house remembers anything about that incident. That means whatever that unknown person did inside the palace had no effect on you."

Her words rang a bell in my mind. I immediately asked, "Historia, did you see that person?"

She thought for a moment and replied, "I couldn't see him clearly, but he was wearing a hood with light purple and white engravings. Because of that hood, it was impossible to see his face. Then suddenly, I felt weak and lost consciousness. When I woke up, I didn't feel any change in myself, but I noticed a huge change in the behavior of the family and the other maids. They had forgotten everything about what happened at the party."

Without wasting time, I asked the question that had been eating at me. "Why didn't you tell me earlier? If you remembered everything, why did you stay silent?"

Historia lowered her gaze again. Silence filled the room. Slowly, she said, "Master… I thought you had forgotten that terrifying night like everyone else."

Then, lowering her eyes, she spoke with innocence and honesty. "Master, if you had known everything about that night's magic and dark powers, you would have tried to obtain similar power. That would mean constant danger hanging over your head, and I didn't want that. I am an AI, and in my world I was programmed not just to cater to my user's preferences, but to think about their well-being. Please forgive me if my behavior upset you, but my intentions were never wrong."

Hearing her words, my anger cooled down. For a moment, I had thought that Historia hiding something could be dangerous for me. But now I understood—it wasn't deception, it was care.

Changing the topic, I took the paper from my pocket and placed it on the table. "Historia, look at this."

She picked up the paper and read the question.

Area of a Cyclic Quadrilateral

Problem Statement:

Find the exact area of a quadrilateral whose four sides are known and whose four vertices lie on the circumference of a single circle.

Given values:

a = 25

b = 39

c = 60

d = 52

As soon as she read it, a faint smile appeared on her face. "Master, I can solve this question very easily. And the reward written below it… I assume that's why you want this solved?"

I nodded yes, though in truth, I was testing her. I wanted to see if she was capable of solving something far bigger and more dangerous than this mathematical problem.

"Alright, Master. I'll solve it tonight," Historia said confidently.

I looked deep into her eyes and said in a more serious tone, "Fine, but you'll have to do one more thing."

"Whatever answer you derive, provide the complete derivation as well, so that when I show it to someone, they can understand how the problem was solved."

Historia bowed her head. "Master, I'll make sure of that. I'll write the complete process along with the solution."

She placed the empty glass of milk back on the tray and turned to leave. But then I remembered the question that had started all this trouble. "Wait, Historia. One more thing… the spell you recited that brought us into this world—where did you get it from?"

She stopped and turned back. "Master, that spell? Honestly, I recited it jokingly in front of you. It wasn't from any ancient mysterious grimoire. It was from a simple book called '101 Magical Spells to Fulfill Wishes.'"

I was stunned. She continued, "That book was full of useless and absurd spells, so I read one just for entertainment. But it actually worked, and we ended up here. Now, what could we do?"

"Who was the author of that book?" I asked curiously.

"The author's name was Noor Kafar," Historia replied. "She's a girl from Pakistan. On the internet, people always mocked that book and its author, yet the books kept selling. Because of that, no one ever took her seriously."

After saying that, Historia called me for breakfast and left the room. I remained seated, my mind racing. What the world considered a joke had actually changed the dimensions of two humans. Noor Kafar… who exactly is she?

After all this, I prepared for Aurum Cultivation. I sat cross-legged on my bed and began meditating. As I cultivated, my consciousness once again reached that mysterious tree. Nothing seemed different there—everything was as calm and profound as before. I worked on my Aurum for about twenty minutes, then slowly came out of that state.

I was ready for breakfast. When I went downstairs, the entire family was already there. I ate quietly and returned to my room. Since I had nothing specific to do today, I spent some time inside.

Soon, I felt slightly thirsty. I stepped out of my room, went downstairs, poured water from the jug kept on the expensive table near the sofa in the hall, and drank. Suddenly, there was a knock on the main palace door. I looked toward it to see who had arrived.

A postman was standing there. Without hesitation, I walked over. He reached into his bag and handed me two letters. At first, I thought they were for someone else in the family. But when I saw the seals, my body stiffened.

The first letter bore the name and royal seal of the Royal Knight Headquarters.

The second carried the mysterious seal of the Church of Void Moon.

I assumed they were meant for Narco, my father. But when my eyes fell on the name written on both letters, I was stunned. Both were addressed to—Historia Chester.

My mind spun. Why would letters from the two most powerful institutions—one the Empire's military, the other the Church of Void Moon—be sent to Historia?

I thought to myself that I would have to read these letters personally. Historia wouldn't mind if I read them without telling her—after all, she was my maid and an AI. My heartbeat quickened. What exactly was written in those letters… and why were they meant for Historia?
