So a few things to take into consideration as you read the fic, or read it if you have some doubts about the Merfolk.
• Fact About Sprites(With some head canon.)
Lifespan :
- Kijin live for about 1000 or more years.
- Elves live for about 500-800 years.
- Merfolk live for about 200-400 years.
- Dwarves live for about 100-200 years.
The former two are facts while the latter two are my own head canon.The lower end of the spectrum is how long most among the species live for.
Their state :
Of all the Sprites that we know of, only High elves and one single Enki remain. All other are either extinct or not ever mentioned.
Like Gajef is a Dwarf (Incomplete Saint), but his grandfather Guran was a High Dwarf.
Goblins -> Hobgoblins -> Ogres -> Kijin -> Enki, From lesser states to higher/original state. Enki have the most lesser versions that we know of.
Or how Merfolk and Elves ore lesser states of Sirens and High Elf, respectively.
Ancestors:
Sprites ｢"Half-Fairy Race"｣ are Demi-humans who can trace their origins back to Elementals. And depending on their ancestors most likely have certain Elemental affinity.
- Sirens and Merfolk representing Water Elementals. So good at Water based Abilities/Magic.
- Enki and Kijin representing Fire Elementals. So good at Fire based Abilities/Magic.
- High Dwarves and Dwarves representing Earth Elementals. So good at Earth based Abilities/Magic.
- High Elves and Elves representing Wind Elementals. So good at Wind based Abilities/Magic.
Appearance:
The fact that High Elves and Enki, look human like with few differences, we can assume that the original sprites looked like human.
• Current Merfolk Tribe.
- Named Individuals: 100
- Non- Named Individuals: 2,400
With multiple smaller groups scattered across the other side of river.
The reason only a hundred are named is cause, most other merfolk are starting to Devolve, becoming more "Monster". So naming becomes dangerous as more become degraded form of Merfolk.
Merfolk appearance:
So far Merfolk are all scaled humanoids with the heads of fish, webbed fingers, and large fin spines
Intrinsic Skills for Merfolk:
-Water Current Motion : It is able to create water currents, which can be manipulated freely by the user.
-Mana perception : It allows the user to use Mana as an extra sense to perceive the surrounding magicules and see a full 360 degrees around them, without leaving a single blind-spot.
