0. The Legend

Long before our time, in the so-called Araka period, it all began.

It was the time before the Big Bang, an era of utter emptiness and eternal darkness. Nothing existed but silence and solitude, so oppressive that even the emptiness threatened to shatter under its weight.

But one day, the unthinkable happened.

Out of nothingness, two stars were born and pierced the darkness with their light.

The first was named Funkaju, bearer of physical and psychic power—of Yin and Yang.

The second was Hikimori, possessor of a special power that can only come from the innermost depths of the soul, the inner spirit.

Together, they united their powers and created the Yakizu.

A power that could both create and destroy.

With the Yakizu, the two star gods shaped the universe, the worlds, and all life that inhabited them.

They quickly realized, however, that no mortal being possessed the power of the Yakizu, nor the dignity to use it.

So they decided to pass on their individual powers separately.

Those who received Funkaju's power grew tall, strong, and resilient.

But those who received Hikimori's inner spirit were doomed. The spirit consumed them from within; even with the greatest care, Hikimori's gift brought only death.

Filled with guilt and shame, Funkaju begged his brother to cease his influence. Humiliated, Hikimori withdrew.

Humans and other living beings shunned him, despised him, and eventually forgot him.

In his despair, Hikimori chose a single human and bestowed upon them almost all of his power.

The human body shattered under this immense power; the spirit perished. But the energy of the inner spirit artificially kept the body alive, transforming it into an empty, immortal shell.

Hikimori then named him Kaido, meaning child or subject.

Among humans, however, he was known only as Azura.

When Hikimori presented this new servant to his brother, Funkaju reacted with horror.

He demanded that Azura be killed, arguing that an inanimate weapon had no place in creation.

But Hikimori saw only envy in this.

His subject was more powerful than anything Funkaju had ever created and might one day even surpass his brother's humans.

Azura began to run amok.

Entire civilizations fell victim to his power.

With each battle, his superiority grew, and with it, his madness.

Finally, he turned on Funkaju himself, determined to kill him to absolve Hikimori of all guilt.

A war broke out.

A war between two star gods and an unleashed subject.

Funkaju saw no way out.

In his final despair, he chose the purest human and bestowed upon him all his remaining power.

With his last breath, Funkaju pulled himself and Hikimori into another world.

There, he united his last strength with his brother's, transforming this human into the mighty Yami.

The Yami, the chosen one of the Star Gods' great brother.

His mission: to destroy Azura.

Even after their masters vanished, Azura and the Yami continued to fight, blow after blow, to the very edge of existence.

Sustained by Funkaju's belief in love and hope, the Yami finally succeeded in sealing Azura within himself.

As a price, he created twelve scrolls that only he could unseal.

Within them, he sealed the powers of the gods and the lifeless subject, the power that was never to fall into human hands, only those of equal worth.

The power of one person...

who should never have existed.
