Chapter 2 - Chapter 2: Where

The place where they crashed was covered in a thick cloud of dirt and dust. The ground was cracked beneath them, leaves scattered everywhere. As the smoke slowly faded, Tokarou opened his eyes. He was lying on his back, and Sumi was on top of him, her face resting against the side of his neck. Neither of them had a single scratch, not even their clothes were torn.

"You can get off now…" Tokarou said calmly.

Sumi lifted her head, then sat up straight, now sitting on his waist. Her hands rested lightly on his stomach as she looked down at him with a small smile.

"Alright Alright."

Tokarou pushed himself up, brushing off the dirt from his clothes.

"So," he muttered as he looked over at Sumi. She also stood up and dusted her clothes, glancing at him when he called out.

"How did we survive?" he asked.

Sumi stared at him for a moment before letting her thoughts settle.

"First of all, darling… we need to make sure this really is another world and not just Earth."

Tokarou raised an eyebrow.

"Huh… didn't we both just see a fraud goddess, then fall out of the sky? And look around you."

He scanned the area. It was a massive forest, trees towering far higher than anything on Earth, with leaves that seemed thicker and a shade of green that felt slightly unnatural. The trunks were wider, and the air carried a scent he didn't recognize.

"I don't remember Earth having trees looking like these… especially not this weird looking."

Sumi stepped behind him and casually wiped off the remaining dirt from his back, brushing his clothes with a slow motion.

"Indeed… I wonder where that fraud dropped us."

Tokarou thought for a moment, then said,

"I think I get it… This world might be like those cheap fantasy anime or webnovels. Magic, demons, all that stuff."

"Heh… that again…" Sumi replied in a low voice.

Tokarou nodded, then moved behind Sumi and wiped her clothes as well, dusting off her shoulders and back.

"Yes, and the reason we survived must be… something like this world having weaker environmental pressure compared to Earth. Not gravity, more like the overall strength of the atmosphere or whatever keeps everything here lighter. Our bodies were built on Earth, so here, everything feels weak to us."

"But that might not make sense too...if that was the case the sorrounding should explode from our pressure... I'm not sure."

Sumi gave a small amused smile.

"Oh… so you're saying we're those overpowered main characters from those repetitive stories… how boring."

Tokarou shrugged.

"At least this place might be more interesting than Earth."

Once they finished dusting themselves off, they stood side by side, looking at the unfamiliar forest.

"So, what now…" Sumi asked.

Tokarou looked forward.

"We should find people. Or at least a place to stay."

Sumi's red eyes gleamed with a small hint of excitement.

"Darling~ this place is so silent. Why don't you and I fill it with some sounds~"

Tokarou gave her a long, silent glare before answering,

"No thanks. We need to find somewhere to live before it gets dark."

Sumi blinked, then nodded.

"Yes, as you wish."

Tokarou added,

"First, we need to choose a direction to go."

He raised his hand and pointed with a single finger.

"That way."

"That way."

Sumi said at the exact same time, pointing in the completely opposite direction.

Both of them stand there for a moment before,

Tokarou slowly turned his head to look at her.

Sumi looked back at him with a confident smirk spreading across her face.

"Darling, why don't you listen to me and go this way?," Sumi said, pointing confidently toward her direction.

Tokarou blinked once before replying in the same calm tone,

"Same for you. You should listen to me and go this way."

Neither of them actually knew whether their direction was safe or not, they just didn't want to give in to the other.

"Then why don't we decide it with a classic rock paper scissors," Sumi suggested.

Tokarou stared at her for a moment, then nodded.

"Fine. Best of three."

They stepped closer, standing face to face, their expressions unreadable.

"Rock…"

"Paper…"

"Scissors."

Tokarou chose rock. Sumi chose rock as well.

Both of them paused, staring at the matching hands before preparing again.

They tried again.

Again, the same result.

And again.

And again.

No matter how many times they repeated it, they always matched, rock with rock, paper with paper, scissors with scissors. After too many draws to count, Tokarou finally lowered his hand.

"This won't work… it'll just go on forever."

Sumi closed her eyes slightly, agreeing.

"Yes… so what should we do?"

Tokarou looked ahead. The forest was dark and thick in most directions, but one path had a brighter patch of sunlight filtering through, making it feel a little more open.

"We should just go forward," he said. "That place looks safer."

Sumi looked ahead as well and nodded.

"Indeed…"

They began walking side by side, the leaves rustling under their steps.

"That fraud was really annoying, wasn't she…" Sumi muttered.

Tokarou nodded slowly.

"Yes. She pissed me off too…"

Sumi tilted her head slightly toward him. In a quiet voice she said,

"But she was sexy, wasn't she…"

Tokarou's eyes shifted toward her.

"Huh?"

Sumi blinked innocently.

"I mean, didn't you see her melons? They were huge, weren't they? I bet you were staring at them~"

Tokarou kept walking, staring at her with a flat expression.

"Why bother asking when you already know the answer."

Sumi smirked.

"Why shouldn't I~? You don't get to see women more beautiful than me that often."

Tokarou didn't hesitate.

"Yes. And I haven't seen one yet."

Sumi slowly looked at him, her smile getting wider and sharper at the edges.

But before she could say anything back, a faint sound echoed from behind them, something shifting through the bushes.

Sumi turned her head, her eyes narrowing slightly as she looked over her shoulder.

And the moment she saw what was there, her eyes widened just a little.
