Chapter 40 - Chapter 40: Above and Below, Only I Stand Supreme

Being killed and then reviving—an ability this absurd is beyond "unfair"; it's practically breaking the rules.

[Kanae: "Then doesn't that mean Lucas has no chance of winning at all?"]

Kanae couldn't help but worry. If a god could revive endlessly, how was anyone supposed to win?

[Whitebeard: "There's got to be a limit, right?"]

Even Whitebeard was shaken by how troublesome divine authorities could be. A Heretic God's raw combat power might be manageable, but the sheer variety of abilities was the real danger.

[Erica: "Yes. Revival consumes a huge amount of divine power, and it also has a cooldown. If you kill him again during that cooldown, he won't revive."]

After taking a few heavy breaths, Verethragna stared at Lucas.

"That spell you used just now… what is it?"

Lucas replied, "Dragon God Transformation—a spell I created that converts a human body toward a dragon-like physique."

Verethragna's pupils tightened.

A spell created by a teenager… one that turns a human toward a dragon's body.

Dragons were apex existences—monsters that stood at the top of the food chain even among legendary beasts. And the most terrifying part wasn't the concept… it was the word created.

By now, Verethragna couldn't dismiss it as bluffing. Lucas had forced him to fuse nine avatars and had even "killed" him once. There were very few beings in the world capable of pushing a god that far.

"I'll admit it," Verethragna said, voice low. "I underestimated you. Your strength exceeded my expectations."

"Now, to show you proper respect—" his smile widened, "—I will fight with everything I have!"

"Warrior!!"

Verethragna fused his tenth avatar: the golden-blade warrior.

The moment it activated, Verethragna's gaze sharpened—as if he could read his opponent's movements more clearly—and a golden weapon formed in his hand.

[Erica: "That sword… don't tell me…"]

[Rin: "What's that sword?"]

[Erica: "The golden sword. It has the power to cleave divinity—stripping a god of what makes them a god."]

With that form active, Verethragna's confidence surged back to its peak.

"I seek defeat, yet never find it—because I am the strongest!"

"And now you've forced me to unleash everything!"

"I'm truly exhilarated!"

"Human—entertain me even more!!"

Above them, storm clouds thickened and thunder rolled, as if the sky itself acknowledged his declaration.

[Erica: "No—Lucas, run!!"]

Erica shouted in panic. This was Verethragna's true, complete form. Before, Lucas had fought him evenly even after eight avatars—and even killed him once—but now ten avatars meant a completely different level.

But Lucas had already closed the group chat. He couldn't hear any of it.

Facing Verethragna's full power, Lucas didn't tense up at all. He actually smiled.

"The strongest… What an intoxicating word."

"If you're going all out, and I don't… that would be disrespectful."

"Second Magic Origin—Open!!"

RUMBLE—!!

A terrifying crimson surge erupted from Lucas, blasting the thick storm clouds apart. Sunlight poured down through the torn sky, bathing him in radiance.

Lucas's power didn't rise by a sliver.

It doubled.

Only after long training did he realize the second Magic Origin wasn't fixed—it could grow, expand, and mature until it stood nearly equal to the first.

Normally, Lucas used only his first Origin—more than enough for everyday fights.

He activated both mostly during training, using them to draw in ambient magic and refine it.

But this was the first time Lucas truly opened both Origins at full capacity in real combat.

The overflowing power surging through his body pushed his confidence to its peak.

Under the brilliant sunlight, Lucas raised one hand toward the heavens and the other toward the earth—striking a clean, fearless stance.

"Above and below… no one stands above me."
