Chapter 20 - CHAPTER 19

THE TRIAL OF THE STAR GUARDIANS

The desert became silent.

Not naturally.

Artificially.

As if the world itself was holding its breath.

---

Three giant guardians stood before the Star Archive.

Motionless.

Watching.

Waiting.

---

Golden sand swirled around their feet.

Ancient symbols glowed across their armor.

Their eyes shone with cold silver light.

---

The central guardian raised its weapon.

A massive spear covered with star-shaped carvings.

---

"Identity verification required."

The voice echoed across the desert.

---

Nobody moved.

---

Nobody knew what to do.

---

Aarvi looked at Elias.

---

"Elias?"

---

The caretaker remained silent.

---

For the first time, even he seemed uncertain.

---

That frightened everyone.

---

The guardian took another step forward.

The ground trembled beneath its weight.

---

"Verification process beginning."

---

The star symbol appeared in the sky.

Massive.

Brilliant.

Ancient.

---

Then four beams of light descended.

---

One landed before Riva.

One before Parna.

One before Eva.

One before Aarvi.

---

The guardians weren't interested in Elias.

Or Lyra.

---

Only the heirs.

---

The challenge belonged to them.

---

A circular platform emerged beneath each girl.

Symbols illuminated across the sand.

---

The central guardian spoke again.

---

"Prove your identity."

---

Suddenly the world disappeared.

---

The desert vanished.

The guardians vanished.

The Archive vanished.

---

And each heir found herself somewhere different.

---

RIVA'S CHOICE

Riva stood inside Saint Marrow Orphanage.

---

The familiar hallways surrounded her.

The same loneliness.

The same silence.

---

Then she saw something impossible.

---

A younger version of herself.

---

Ten years old.

Sitting alone beside a window.

Drawing mysterious symbols.

---

The child looked sad.

Lost.

Forgotten.

---

Then another figure appeared.

---

A woman made of silver light.

---

"Who are you?"

Riva asked.

---

The woman smiled gently.

---

"A memory."

---

The woman pointed toward the younger Riva.

---

"Tell her the truth."

---

"What truth?"

---

The memory woman looked directly into her eyes.

---

"That she isn't alone."

---

Riva froze.

---

For years she blamed herself.

Believed nobody could understand her.

Believed her visions made her different.

---

Slowly she approached the younger girl.

---

Then knelt beside her.

---

"You'll be okay."

---

The younger Riva looked up.

---

"You promise?"

---

Tears appeared in Riva's eyes.

---

"Yes."

---

The illusion shattered.

---

A silver symbol appeared above her hand.

---

The first verification was complete.

---

PARNA'S CHOICE

Parna found herself inside a dying forest once more.

---

The same trial.

Or so it seemed.

---

This time something was different.

---

At the center stood the Elder Tree.

---

Cracked.

Broken.

Dying.

---

A voice echoed through the woods.

---

"Save the tree."

---

Parna immediately moved forward.

---

Then another voice spoke.

---

"Or save the animals."

---

Suddenly hundreds of frightened creatures appeared.

---

Both couldn't be saved.

---

The fire spreading through the forest was too large.

---

Parna closed her eyes.

Thinking.

---

Then she smiled.

---

"There has to be another way."

---

Instead of choosing, she used the river nearby.

Redirecting the water.

Saving both.

---

The forest bloomed instantly.

---

Green light surrounded her.

---

The second verification was complete.

---

EVA'S CHOICE

Eva stood inside a massive observatory.

---

Thousands of books covered the walls.

---

At the center floated the compass.

---

The same ancient compass.

---

A voice echoed through the room.

---

"Ask one question."

---

Eva frowned.

---

"What?"

---

"One question."

---

"Any question?"

---

"Any question."

---

The temptation was enormous.

---

She could ask about Aurelia.

About Kael.

About the future.

About everything.

---

Then she remembered something.

---

Knowledge wasn't wisdom.

---

Immediately she asked:

---

"What question should I be asking?"

---

Silence.

---

Then the observatory illuminated.

---

The voice laughed softly.

---

For the first time.

---

"Correct."

---

Blue light surrounded her.

---

The third verification was complete.

---

AARVI'S CHOICE

Aarvi found herself inside Aurelia.

---

Alive.

Beautiful.

Perfect.

---

The kingdom hadn't fallen.

The people were happy.

The palace stood untouched.

---

Everything she secretly wished for.

---

Then someone appeared.

---

An older man.

---

Her uncle.

---

Exactly as she remembered him.

---

Aarvi froze.

---

For a moment she forgot everything else.

---

"Uncle?"

---

He smiled warmly.

---

The same smile she missed every day.

---

"You can stay."

---

The words hurt.

---

Because part of her wanted to.

---

Part of her desperately wanted to.

---

But she knew it wasn't real.

---

Slowly tears formed in her eyes.

---

Then she shook her head.

---

"I have people waiting for me."

---

The illusion collapsed.

---

Golden light surrounded her.

---

The fourth verification was complete.

---

THE STAR ARCHIVE OPENS

The heirs returned to reality.

---

The desert reappeared.

The guardians stood exactly where they had been.

---

But now their eyes glowed brighter.

---

The central guardian lowered its spear.

---

Then all three guardians knelt.

---

The desert fell silent.

---

Even the wind stopped.

---

"Verification complete."

---

A massive rumble echoed across the dunes.

---

The tower at the center of the Star Archive city began moving.

---

Ancient stone shifted.

Symbols illuminated.

Golden energy flowed through hidden pathways.

---

The city awakened.

---

The giant doors of the Archive slowly opened.

---

A bright silver light poured outward.

---

The heirs stared in amazement.

---

They had passed.

---

The Star Archive was finally opening.

---

Then the wounded follower of Kael screamed.

---

Everyone turned.

---

The man's eyes widened in terror.

---

"No..."

---

His voice trembled.

---

"They found us."

---

The atmosphere instantly changed.

---

Even the guardians became alert.

---

A distant horn echoed across the desert.

Ancient.

Powerful.

Unfamiliar.

---

Then another.

---

And another.

---

The horizon darkened.

---

Thousands of figures appeared beyond the dunes.

---

An army.

---

Not Kael's army.

---

Something else.

---

Something older.

---

The central guardian's voice became urgent.

---

"Emergency protocol activated."

---

For the first time since awakening—

The guardian sounded afraid.

---

"The Seekers have returned."

---

Silence followed.

---

Nobody knew who the Seekers were.

---

But judging from the guardian's reaction—

They were bad news.

---

Very bad news.

---

Far away, inside a chamber hidden beneath a ruined fortress, Kael looked toward a glowing map.

---

The moment he saw the new lights appear, his expression darkened.

---

"The Seekers..."

---

Even he sounded concerned.

---

Then he stood.

---

For the first time in decades—

Kael abandoned his own plans.

---

Because a much older threat had entered the game.

---

And if the Seekers reached the Archive first—

Everyone would lose.

---

Including him.

---

The war was growing larger.

And the heirs had just become its center.
