Chapter 4 - Chapter 4: The Apocalypse

Bryce realized that Tyler was not going to make it to them, he was floating with no control. The living room continue to collapse. And with no gravity, some of the things in the living room started to hit Tyler.

The heavy couches, tables and chairs all went Tyler's way and as much as he tried to dodge them, it proved futile.

Finally, a big cupboard made of steel came his way, and hit him on his head, he died and his body just floated there.

Bryce and Carl stood frozen, staring at what had just happened. They couldn't believe it. They didn't understand what was happening, another one of their friend just died.

But there was no time to stand still and reflect. The hallway, which was stable, began shaking along with the ground.

"We need to go now, Carl," Bryce said.

Carl just stood there, paralyzed with fear.

"C'mon, Carl, we need to go now! We can't stay here!"

"What is happening? Why is all this happening? Tyler and Austin just died in front of us," Carl said.

"I don't know, but we need to get out of this place now. If we don't, we're going to die too," Bryce said. He was scared, but he tried his best to stay calm so he could escape the mansion with Carl.

Carl pulled himself together a bit and started running with Bryce. They kept running, hoping to reach the exit soon, but the hallway felt endless.

The walls began caving in on them, it was compressing but they kept running. Finally, Bryce saw the exit and used all his strength to reach it.

He got to the door and opened it, but when he turned back, he realized Carl wasn't close to him. Carl was on the floor, he fell down while running and was trying to get up.

Carl had tears in his eyes, it was as if he had given up. The walls were already incredibly close to him. But Bryce wasn't ready to lose another friend.

Bryce was so focused on Carl that he didn't realize the entire mansion was now floating in the air as it was caving in on itself.

The only thing on Bryce's mind was reaching Carl, to save him, even if it meant dying. But as he was about to run toward him, the shaking and twisting of the mansion caused Bryce to lose his footing, and he fell out of the mansion door.

Bryce fell, and during the fall he caught one last glimpse of Carl's face, a sight that would be burned into his memory forever. The fall was long, and Bryce believed he was going to die. He accepted it as punishment.

As he fell, he watched the mansion compress entirely into nothing and vanish. Then he hit the ground and passed out.

Bryce lay unconscious on the ground. After some time, a car stopped on the road near him, it was Father William. The sky was dark, strong winds blew, and thunder began to strike.

Father William and Ava stepped out of the car and rushed to Bryce, who was still lying on the floor.

"Bryce, wake up. Wake up," Father William said as he gently shook him. Ava stood beside him, silently staring at Bryce.

Bryce slowly opened his eyes, and Father William let out a breath of relief. Everything was blurry for Bryce as he tried to gather himself. He looked around and recognized Father William and Ava, even though his vision was still distorted.

"Are you okay, Bryce? What happened here? Where are your friends?" Father William asked.

The moment he asked about the boys, everything came back to Bryce. He knew it wasn't a dream. Small tears escaped his eye as he murmured, "They're all dead."

Father William stared in disbelief, while Ava continued standing silently.

"Argghhh…" Bryce screamed as pain rushed through his body from the fall. He felt agony everywhere and couldn't move.

Father William didn't know what to think, but he knew he had to act fast. He carefully lifted Bryce and carried him toward the car, with Ava following closely behind.

Bryce was still in great pain, but Father William couldn't help that, he just needed to get him to the car as quickly as possible.

They reached the car, but stopped when something appeared in the sky. A rip tore open in the sky, growing larger and larger. The color of the sky slowly shifted to red.

"Oh God…" Father William whispered as they stared upward.

The entire atmosphere changed, becoming dark and ominous. Father William didn't understand what was happening, but Bryce was still in pain, so he placed him gently in the back seat. Ava climbed in and sat beside Bryce.

"Make sure he's comfortable," Father William told her, then got into the driver's seat.

Father William started the car. He was confused and overwhelmed. He wanted to get Bryce to the hospital, but he also wanted to return to the orphanage, because it was clear something terrible was happening.

"He is asleep now," Ava said.

"Okay… that's good. We'll get him help soon," Father William assured her, though his voice held worry.

"Some things are falling from the sky," Ava said, staring out the window.

Father William looked and saw strange black shapes falling from the rip in the sky. They were high up, hard to identify, but as they descended, he still couldn't fully tell what they were.

They were dark creatures, demons from the underworld. Ghosts and evil spirits began pouring out of the rip as well.

The demons hit the ground and immediately began causing havoc, destroying everything in sight.

Father William saw the destruction but forced himself to remain calm because Ava and Bryce depended on him. Then demons began landing closer to them.

People who had been driving nearby abandoned their cars and ran for their lives. Demons lifted cars and flung them aside. Others smashed into buildings, tearing them apart.

Everyone was either running or trying to hide, terrified.

Father William continued driving through the chaos, dodging cars and demons. Leaving the vehicle was not an option, not with Bryce unconscious and Ava with him.

This was the first wave of the invasion, the beginning of the destruction of the world.

The apocalypse.
