Chapter 3 - CHAPTER 3: A FRIEND'S DUTY

"Wait… that was her."

The moment stayed with him longer than it should have.

Akasa slowed without realizing it.

Akasa rushed down the stairs.

His breath was heavy.

Akasa asked somebody "Have you seen a girl in a pink dress".

"No, I didn't." the boy replied.

Her shape framed the entrance.

Thought tugged at him gently.

Wordlessly, he followed, mind racing.

"Hey! Akasa where are you going" Yash grabbed Akasa's hand and asked him.

He muttered, "Nah, work calls," eyes evading as he pushed on.

"Please, help me out now," Yash asked.

"Sorry—super urgent work."

"What could be more urgent than a friend."

Akasa didn't answer right away.

By the time he looked again, she was already gone.

"Actually, I have to buy medicines for Kumar, but I will help you."

He wondered when lying had started to feel this simple. He smirked.

"My lab assignment's due today and it is in thirty minutes, and I haven't finished it!" Yash with cold sweat on his face.

"Okay, I'll send you those experiment photos from mechanical lab—you were there too," came the quick reply.

"Perfect—send them now; I'll print in the library." Yash's lumping is gone now.

Yash smiled and rushed towards the library and said "bye".

"Bye," Akasa replied nonchalantly.

Some chances didn't wait—and he knew exactly why.
