Chapter 315 - Chapter 080 Going to Chabashira’s Dorm / Plot Twist? The Whole Class was Stupid!

Chapter 080 Going to Chabashira's Dorm / Plot Twist? The Whole Class was Stupid!

Friday arrived. For most students, this was a good day—the weekend was finally around the corner. But for the second-year students, there was "overtime" ahead because of the Unanimous Decision exam tomorrow.

After Shimizu Akira arrived at the classroom and took out his textbook for the first period, Ayanokouji Kiyotaka, seeing that the usual girlfriends Sakura Airi and Horikita Suzune weren't by Shimizu's side for once, walked straight over.

"Shimizu, are there any clubs you'd recommend?"

Shimizu Akira put down his book. "Does this mean you're planning to join a club?"

Ayanokouji Kiyotaka nodded. "Yeah. Hirata asked me to join any club just to help increase the class budget for the Cultural Festival."

During his birthday last year, Hirata Yousuke was one of the people who celebrated with him; the two usually got along quite well.

"Then what do you usually like? Sports or culture?"

"Either is fine." Ayanokouji's answer was vague as usual.

"Let's start with sports then." Shimizu counted on his fingers. "Football, basketball, volleyball, badminton, tennis, track and field, archery (Kyudo), judo, kendo... take your pick."

"Too many."

"Well, what are you good at?"

Ayanokouji thought for a moment. "Nothing in particular."

Shimizu looked slightly surprised. "Hmm? You don't know even one? Doesn't the White Room training include these items?"

Ayanokouji glanced at him. "White Room training focuses on survival and dealing with extreme environments, not club activities. Marksmanship, hand-to-hand combat, wilderness survival, and intelligence analysis—those are the priorities."

"Doesn't Kyudo count as marksmanship?"

"Technically, but Kyudo isn't just about shooting." Ayanokouji added a rare extra sentence: "It has etiquette, a process, and form. It's not as simple as pulling a trigger."

Shimizu thought about it and felt he was right. Kyudo really isn't just about letting an arrow fly. "So do you want to go to the Kyudo club? I went there once with Nanase; the environment is nice and the atmosphere is good. Besides, Miyake is there. Since you know him, it won't be too awkward."

Ayanokouji Kiyotaka was silent for a few seconds before shaking his head. "Since Nanase is there, I won't go. The atmosphere between us isn't great."

It was true. Although Nanase Tsubasa had forgiven Ayanokouji Kiyotaka in front of Shimizu during the last deserted island exam, how should one put it? He was, after all, the one who indirectly drove her childhood friend to suicide, and his father was the culprit behind everything. Nanase Tsubasa still felt uneasy around him. It seemed Ayanokouji Kiyotaka was aware of this himself. Thinking about it, it was better not to let these two join the same club; they'd only make themselves uncomfortable.

"There are plenty of cultural clubs too. Let me list them for you," Shimizu said one by one: "Literature, Art, Music, Photography, Chess, Gardening, Calligraphy, Tea Ceremony, Flower Arranging... want to pick one?"

"Then let's go with the Chess Club."

"Chess? Do you like playing?"

"I wouldn't say I like it," Ayanokouji said. "But at least I don't hate it. The White Room training sessions happened to teach it."

"Alright then. How about I accompany you to check it out after school?"

"Sure."

After finishing that matter, Ayanokouji Kiyotaka said with rare seriousness: "Chairman Sakayanagi called me a couple of days ago and mentioned some things about the outside world. Naoe doesn't have many days left in the nursing home."

Naoe was actually one of the four top giants of the ruling Party and the former boss of Ayanokouji Atsuomi. After this person dies, the outside powers will undergo a massive reshuffle. For Ayanokouji Atsuomi, he would be busy fighting for power back there for a while; at least during this time, Advanced Nurturing High School would be quiet.

Shimizu Akira patted his shoulder. "Don't think too much. But it's a good thing you're joining a club. Don't forget, you also have to prepare for the balloon shooting event with Sudo and Ike Kanji."

Ayanokouji Kiyotaka paused, then nodded. "True."

After school in the afternoon, as agreed yesterday, everyone conducted a mock drill for tomorrow's Unanimous Decision special exam.

This went on for about an hour, giving everyone a deep understanding of the overall process as well as collective and individual roles.

Hirata Yousuke summarized: "Currently, it seems everyone was a bit confused during the first few questions, which wasted a lot of time. People only quiet down when Kushida, Horikita, or Shimizu speak. So, I suggest: after the school announces a topic, everyone should temporarily stay quiet. These three will take turns giving a one-minute speech, briefly analyzing whether we should choose 'Agree' or 'Disagree' and the reasons why. This way, the students have a baseline to work from."

Horikita Suzune also nodded. "It shouldn't just be the three of us; Hirata, you also need to state your opinion. Additionally, I personally suggest that to leave us time for discussion during the first vote, one person should be fixed to vote 'Agree' and another 'Disagree'."

Kushida Kikyo waved her hand. "Then I'll choose 'Agree' and Horikita-san can choose 'Disagree'."

Hirata Yousuke nodded and recorded this plan in his notebook. "Then after the first voting results come out, if the gap is huge, we'll go straight to the discussion phase. If the votes are close, we'll listen to the thoughts of the representatives from both sides before deciding."

"I think this is a good way." Ike Kanji raised his hand with rare enthusiasm. "That way it won't turn into a mess."

"What if someone doesn't vote according to the agreement?" someone raised a question.

"Then it means they have their own thoughts." Horikita Suzune looked at that person. "Our goal isn't to force everyone to pick the same option, but to ensure everyone makes a choice while being fully informed. If someone insists on a different opinion, we'll hear their reasons. If they make sense, we'll vote with them; if not, we'll convince them."

"And if we can't convince them?"

"Then the minority follows the majority," Kikyo said with a smile. "But that's not a school requirement; it's our own decision."

Horikita Suzune tapped the table. "Before the Unanimous Decision exam tomorrow, everyone must realize one thing: the voting is completely anonymous. This means if one person in the class insists on 'Disagreeing' with a topic, we won't actually know who it is. If that happens, the topic will remain in a stalemate."

"Horikita is right. Anonymity is a school rule we can't change. But what we can change is our honesty during the discussion phase. Whether you agree or disagree, speak up so we can find a solution together."

"What if someone just won't speak and keeps causing trouble by voting 'Disagree'?" Ike Kanji asked.

"Then we can only guess," Hirata said helplessly. "Guess why they disagree, guess what they want, and then find a way to satisfy their needs. But that will waste a lot of time. We only have five hours."

"Five hours should be enough, right?" someone whispered.

"If every topic goes smoothly, yes," Hirata Yousuke said. "But if one topic gets stuck, it might not even have a result after an hour or two. There are five topics; if any one of them goes wrong, it will affect the pace of the rest, and we will lose 350 class points."

"So the best way is for everyone to be honest during the discussion phase," Horikita Suzune concluded. "Whatever your thoughts are, say them. We won't blame you for having a different opinion."

"Any other questions?" Hirata scanned the classroom.

No one spoke.

"Then that's it." Hirata closed his notebook. "Go back and rest well. Be calm tomorrow. Remember, no matter the result, we are one class."

After Shimizu Akira packed his things, he waved to Ayanokouji Kiyotaka. Following the morning agreement, the two planned to check out the Chess Club.

"What floor is the Chess Club on?" Ayanokouji asked.

"The fourth floor of the Club Building." Shimizu Akira looked back at him. "You don't go there often, do you?"

"I've never been."

"Then today counts as your first time."

"Yeah."

The two went down the stairs, crossed the playground, and headed toward the Club Building.

"Shimizu."

"Yeah?"

"Do you know how to play chess?"

"I know how. Horikita-senpai taught me for a while when he was here last year, but I'm just a beginner; my level can't compare to Suzune's. How about you? How's your level?"

"It's okay."

The two entered the Club Building and went up to the fourth floor. At the end of the corridor was a wooden door with a small sign hanging on it: Chess Club.

Shimizu Akira knocked.

"Come in," a male voice came from inside.

After pushing the door open, Shimizu Akira took a quick look. There were several large tables by the window with chessboards set up; a few people were sitting there playing. In the corner was a large bookshelf filled with various chess books and trophies.

A boy wearing glasses stood up and walked toward them. "Hello, how can I help you?"

"Hello, my friend wants to check out the Chess Club." Shimizu stepped aside to reveal Ayanokouji. "He is Ayanokouji Kiyotaka from Class 2-A."

The glasses-wearing boy's gaze lingered on Ayanokouji for a moment, then he smiled. "Hello, I'm the president of the Chess Club, third-year Hayato Yamada. Do you know how to play?"

"A little."

"Then how about a game?" Yamada pointed to an empty table nearby.

"Sure."

The two sat down and set up the pieces. Yamada took White, and Ayanokouji took Black. The others in the activity room also put down their games and gathered around to watch.

Shimizu Akira leaned against the wall, arms crossed, watching quietly.

The opening was very plain. Yamada played the King's Pawn, and Ayanokouji responded with the King's Pawn—a very standard opening. After a few moves, the situation began to get complicated.

"Your playing style is interesting."

"In what way?"

"It's like you're playing Go."

Ayanokouji didn't respond. After a few more moves, Yamada's brow began to furrow. His pieces were trapped in a very small area; he couldn't push an attack out, and he couldn't hold his defense. Meanwhile, Ayanokouji's pieces were like water, seeping in from all directions, silent and invisible.

"I lose." Yamada put down his pieces, leaned back in his chair, and let out a long breath. "You call that 'a little'? This level is practically professional! You aren't pretending to join just to come here and crush us, are you?"

"What do you mean?" Ayanokouji Kiyotaka asked, puzzled.

"At the start of the school year last year, a girl from your second-year class came here with a cane to challenge us. Our club even gave her several hundred thousand private points." Yamada sighed.

Shimizu Akira's lip twitched.

With a cane? Who else could it be but Sakayanagi Arisu? This person actually did something like that. At the start of school, he had just gotten 100,000 private points from her, and Sakayanagi Arisu had turned around and won it back from the Chess Club. That woman!

Ayanokouji Kiyotaka shook his head. "President, you misunderstand. I'm here to join the club. Is it not that I have to win to join?"

Yamada said speechlessly, "I didn't make myself clear, my mistake. We actually don't have an entry threshold; I just wanted to see your level. So, do you want to join?"

"Do I need to come often?"

"At least once a week. If there are competitions, we'll train more."

"I can do that. President, how much activity budget will be given for the Cultural Festival?"

"Since you just joined, I can give you a budget of 5,000 at most."

"Fine."

"Then fill out this membership application form." Yamada took a form out of a drawer and handed it to him.

Ayanokouji took it, filled it out quickly, and handed it back. Yamada glanced at it and nodded. "Alright, you'll start official activities next week. Find me if you have any questions."

"Okay."

The two walked out of the activity room and were about to head forward. Coming toward them was a student council member wearing glasses and carrying a thick stack of documents.

Shimizu Akira took a casual look—it was actually Kiriyama Ikuto.

Hmm? Why was he alone this time? He then realized that this man was no longer the Vice President, so naturally, he had no subordinates.

Ayanokouji Kiyotaka clearly didn't know the news yet. Seeing Kiriyama walk over, he gave a calm greeting: "Hello, Vice President."

Kiriyama Ikuto's footsteps paused, his gaze lingering on Ayanokouji Kiyotaka's face for a split second. "I'm no longer the Vice President."

"Since when?"

"It's been a while."

"Senpai, are you..." Shimizu glanced at the thick stack of documents in his hands. "Busy organizing something?"

"The venue allocation for the Cultural Festival." Kiriyama looked down at the documents. "I need to coordinate some of the stalls. President Nagumo left these for me to handle."

"This much, and just you alone?"

"Yeah."

Back when he was Vice President, he had at least three or four assistants. Now that he had been removed from office, he was left all by himself. His Suzune had mentioned that during the last deserted island exam, the other party seemed to have given Koenji Rokusuke a pass for the sake of Horikita Manabu.

"Do you need help?" Thinking of this, Shimizu said directly.

Kiriyama looked at him. "No need."

"I have nothing to do anyway."

Kiriyama was silent for two seconds, then split the documents into two piles and handed one to Shimizu. "Then please help me categorize these."

"Okay."

Shimizu took the documents, sat down on a bench in the hallway, and began sorting.

"Shimizu." Kiriyama suddenly called him.

"Yeah?"

"You have an exam tomorrow, right?"

"Yeah. The Unanimous Decision exam."

"Are you prepared?"

"Pretty much."

"Kiriyama-senpai," Shimizu also wanted to ask a few questions. "Do you know who is Nagumo Miyabi's candidate for the new Vice President?"

"Not yet. But it should be announced soon."

"Who do you think it will be?" Ayanokouji asked.

"I don't know." Kiriyama lowered his head and continued flipping through documents. "Maybe one of Shimizu-kun's girlfriends! But whoever it is, it has nothing to do with me anymore."

"Why haven't you thought about revenge?" Ayanokouji Kiyotaka asked after a thought.

Kiriyama's hand paused again. "Revenge? Do you think I haven't tried? This is the price of my failure. Not only did I lose my ticket to Class A, but as graduation nears, most of the people in third-year Class B no longer listen to my orders. There are only two semesters left before graduation, and the gap between Class B and Class A is now about a thousand class points... how am I supposed to fight back?"

With only the last two semesters left, if the gap really was over a thousand points and Nagumo Miyabi's class wasn't weak, there was basically zero chance of a comeback.

"Neither of you needs to pity me." Kiriyama glanced at the two of them. "Horikita-senpai asked me to counter Nagumo Miyabi before he left. Not only did I fail to do that, I even collaborated with him. This is the natural end for someone like me—reaping what I sowed."

At this point, Shimizu Akira handed the sorted documents back to Kiriyama. "Sorted."

"Thanks." Kiriyama took them, organized the documents, and held them in his arms. "I'll be going then."

"Okay."

Kiriyama turned and left. Ayanokouji Kiyotaka turned to ask Shimizu.

"You seemed to have known about Kiriyama-senpai being removed from office?"

"Suzune told me last time."

"Why did Nagumo Miyabi remove him?"

"I heard it was to train the next President. But in reality, it might be because Kiriyama-senpai failed to stop Koenji during the deserted island special exam."

"Just because of that?"

"Just because of that."

"Not worth it."

"I think so too."

"Who do you think Nagumo Miyabi will choose as the new Vice President?"

"I don't know. Maybe Suzune."

"Why?"

"Because Suzune is Horikita Manabu's sister. That guy Nagumo has a weird obsession with Horikita-senpai; it wouldn't be strange for him to make his sister President. But don't tell Kikyo or Honami about this; they both have intentions of becoming President."

After finishing, Shimizu couldn't help but rub his temples. "I say, Ayanokouji, aren't you asking a lot of questions today? What, do you pity Kiriyama Ikuto? I actually think he's right—everyone knows Nagumo Miyabi has poor character. He should have expected this end when he followed that guy, shouldn't he?"

Ayanokouji glanced at him. "Because you seem to have all the answers, I unconsciously asked you. Otherwise, I'd have to spend a while thinking about these questions myself. As for pity, I don't really have any; it's purely out of curiosity."

Shimizu's lip twitched; so this guy just wanted to save some brainpower?

"You owe me one this time."

"Fine. Next time you want to learn some White Room skills, I can teach you."

"..."

After dinner, Shimizu Akira checked the time; it was almost 6:00 PM. He couldn't help but think about what just happened. Kiriyama Ikuto was indeed a bit pitiable. But as he said, it was the result of his own choices.

But speaking of which, is the Student Council about to have a selection for the Vice President? If he really chose Horikita Suzune, he didn't know how his Kikyo would throw a tantrum.

Just as he walked out of the cafeteria, his phone suddenly rang. Shimizu Akira stared at the name Chabashira Sae on the screen, hesitated for two seconds, and then picked up.

"Hello?"

"Shimizu-kun, are you free right now?" Chabashira's voice sounded a bit softer than usual.

"I am. What's up?"

"Regarding tomorrow's exam, there are some important things I want to tell you in person." Chabashira paused. "Come to my dorm room now."

Shimizu Akira was stunned. Go to her dorm? Previously, they always discussed things in the office or classroom; he had never been to her dorm.

"Can't we switch to a café or somewhere else?"

"No. Just like the last time I called you, this involves specific leaks and cannot be discussed in public. It's also easy to be overheard downstairs at the dorm."

"Then can't we just talk over the phone like last time?"

"This conversation will be long, and you'll likely have many questions to ask."

Shimizu Akira looked hesitant, but then he thought that she was his homeroom teacher after all. "Fine. What floor of the faculty dorm?"

"Third floor, Room 302. Knock when you arrive."

"Got it."

The call ended. Shimizu Akira put his phone in his pocket and turned toward the teacher's dormitory. The night breeze blew over, feeling a bit chilly; he wrapped his coat tighter and quickened his pace.

When he reached the teacher's dormitory, the staff at the door didn't stop him. He took the elevator directly to the third floor, Room 302. Shimizu Akira stood in the hallway, stared at the door for a few seconds, and finally walked in.

Chabashira Sae's room was quite simple: a single bed, a desk, a wardrobe, a few stacks of books in the corner, and a pothos plant on the windowsill. The entire room had no extra decorations, clean as a model home.

Today, Chabashira Sae was wearing a white base shirt paired with black casual trousers. She wore no makeup; her skin was pale, and the color of her lips was very light, as if she hadn't worn lipstick in a long time. Standing by the desk, she looked much more relaxed than at school, but that "don't come near me" aura was still there.

"Sit." Chabashira pointed to the chair in front of the desk while she sat on the edge of the bed.

Shimizu Akira sat down and looked at her. "Sensei, tell me, what else do you know about tomorrow's Unanimous Decision exam?"

Chabashira's expression was hesitant, but she eventually opened her mouth slowly: "Actually, I was once a graduate of Advanced Nurturing High School, and I also participated in..."

Chabashira Sae, just like Hoshinomiya Chie yesterday, recounted that past event from her own perspective. However, this time it was filled with her own internal feelings.

Chabashira said with a face full of emotion: "When the Unanimous Decision special exam ended, our relationship naturally ended too. It didn't even last a day. After that, we also lost in the direct confrontation of the final exam. Three years of time ended in emptiness just like that."

Shimizu Akira was completely stunned when he heard this: "Wait! You guys had one more graduation exam at the end?"

Chabashira nodded. "Yes."

Shimizu was left speechless for several seconds. After all that, this was only the second-to-last special exam? Hoshinomiya didn't mention that yesterday either!

"I just don't get it. Since it was the second-to-last special exam, why were you guys in such a hurry to vote out that leader? Shouldn't the subsequent graduation exam have been the most important? At most, it would have only increased the class points by 150, right?"

Chabashira sighed. "At the time, the gap between us and Class A was only seventy-three points. As long as one person was expelled, the class points would increase by a hundred. That person judged it was the best opportunity, so he decided to do it."

Shimizu Akira understood the logic even less now. "Wait, from what you're saying, when you were voting someone to be expelled, the rest of you were leaderless and didn't know what to do without that leader present; the votes were split between 'Disagree' and 'Agree'. Let's say you did vote the leader out and temporarily became Class A—without that leader, could you

really have sustained yourselves in the final special exam? Were you really confident you could beat the original Class B?"

Chabashira Sae opened her mouth but didn't know what to say.

Shimizu asked again: "So, when you refused to vote for him back then, was it because he was your boyfriend, or because he was the leader and indispensable for the subsequent special exams?"

Chabashira said softly: "More of the former."

Shimizu was even more bewildered. "Since you wanted to protect him, why didn't you say he was the 'Leader' and 'indispensable for the final special exam' back then? Why didn't you use that reason to persuade him and the other students? That definitely would have saved a lot of votes!"

Chabashira Sae's gaze shifted around. "I... I didn't think of that then."

'Really? Was that strategy really that hard? At least consider the big picture.'

Shimizu's lip twitched. "It's not just your fault. Your classmates were the same, including Hoshinomiya-sensei. Every single one of you really thought that by sending the leader away, you could sit back and relax as Class A? That shows a total lack of thinking ability; you were too naive."

They practically treated the other three classes like they were nothing.

"And that leader of yours too—if this had happened in the final special exam and he sacrificed himself like that, I would indeed admire him. But why take the Unanimous Decision exam so seriously?"

This was getting ridiculous.

To put it in gaming terms, it was like the protagonist's party encountering an elite mob before even entering the boss room. It wasn't that they couldn't win, but the carry of the team suddenly blew himself up without a word. If you're going to die, at least make it worthwhile.

And then! The most unbelievable part—besides Chabashira, no one in the class planned to stop him? Could it be that this class was entirely made up of students with no thinking capacity?

So, you guys failing to become Class A really can't be blamed on anyone else; it's purely because you were all terrible.
