….
It was announced on the news literally the day after the UN summit closed, and it immediately became the hottest news, causing all the recent screaming about mutants and the Registration Act to be lost all at once.
By the way, the abruptly "changed" position of Senator Kelly came attached.
In general, I studied the surrounding world more and more, and the world, in the person of one sensitive telepath, studied me.
Conversations about history, Asgard, the Nine Realms, and so on somehow imperceptibly became a tradition for us, as did chess games.
But aside from the above, I found interesting things to do related to my unsurpassed charisma, charm, and other great virtues.
To be more precise, one fine day Miss Ororo finally accepted my invitation to sit sometime in the evening in a cozy restaurant and pay tribute to fried chicken, duck, and other gifts of nature…
"You look simply indescribably magnificent, oh beautiful goddess!" I wasn't lying at all. The black silk dress harmonized perfectly with the girl's skin color and made Storm's lovely pearl-white curls seem altogether mystical.
"Your hair shines, surpassing the lunar silver of the dwarves. I am all in admiration and awe."
"Loki… that sounds quite embarrassing," the lady's cheeks darkened slightly, showing that my compliments had not gone unnoticed.
"The truth may be embarrassing, but it does not cease to be the truth," I adjusted my "dapper" suit and offered my hand to the girl. "Shall we, my fair lady?"
After hesitating a little, the mulatto woman accepted the gesture of care, and we proceeded with noble dignity to the luxury car I had summoned in advance, which took us to one of New York's restaurants deemed worthy of trust and flattering reviews by critics.
There, after dismissing the driver, we entered the hall, sat at the reserved table, and placed our order. While it was being prepared, they brought us wine and light snacks.
An "awkward" silence, from Storm's point of view, settled in.
"Loki," the girl began after hesitating a bit, "this invitation… all of this is very nice, of course, but…"
"I know," I took a sip, "you don't have any romantic feelings for me, and that's unlikely to change."
Sigh. As expected, the local wine, while a high-quality product, compared to real Asgardian stuff was… well, I should have grabbed some of that for my pocket dimension!
I wonder if Odin would be very upset if I staged a raid on his domain to loot the wine cellar and steal the mead reserves? Or would he wipe away a stingy masculine tear and say: "My boy is finally behaving like a proper Aesir!"?
"I'm sorry," she was clearly very uncomfortable, and… that endeared her to me.
"You have nothing to apologize for. Besides, it's quite normal and reasonable."
"Reasonable?" she didn't understand. "So you anticipated something like this?"
"Naturally," I spread my hands with a kind but characteristically Loki-esque smile (that is, slightly begging for a brick to the face).
"We've known each other for less than a month, and for most of that, you were running away from me and sneaking peeks at the Elder Edda. What kind of romantic feelings can we talk about after that psychedelic thriller set in the scenery of schizophrenia and sexual perversions of the vilest and most unnatural form? I'm amazed you have the guts to talk to me at all after that pamphlet." I jokingly saluted the girl with my glass and took another sip.
"Uh… Um…" the mulatto woman confusedly gasped for air, her cheeks darkening noticeably. "How do you know?!" And her gaze was so scared, so scared, as if she weren't an adult woman but a teenage girl caught by her dad peeping into the men's shower.
"Let's put it this way," another sip, which proved powerless to wipe the satisfied smirk off my face, "this isn't my first time on Earth, and I've managed to study what people do when they learn my true identity."
"Is that so…" Storm's eyes darted around the room.
"Yes," I confirmed, slightly sliding her glass closer to her with magical telekinesis.
"And that doesn't embarrass you?" noticing the movement, the blonde beauty looked at me again.
"I feel very sorry for you," I emphasized the word breathily, "but I admire your bravery all the same."
"Oh," Ororo took the glass and took a few sips, rushing to calm her nerves. Once she succeeded, the girl met my gaze, took a deep breath through her mouth, and spoke: "So what now?"
"Whatever you want," I shrugged. "A mischievous and non-binding fling, a whirlwind romance with theaters and restaurants, something youthful with cute romance, walks under the moon, wildflowers, and movie dates, or just an innocent friendship with a touch of light flirting. I'm not going to force you into anything… Though, of course, it would upset me if you stood up right now, punched me in the face, and left, so please don't do that." I winked at the girl with a fresh smirk.
"I won't," Storm agreed compliantly, closing her eyes for a couple of seconds, "but explain to me, what do you want from all this?" She leaned forward with some more active interest, even excitement. "And why do you need this?"
"What do you mean 'why'?" I was surprised, almost without pretending. "You are a beautiful girl. Kind, responsible, serious. You get along with children, single-handedly care for a disabled father figure and a couple of step-relatives, you're a superheroine who literally just saved the world, and you manage all this while working as a simple school teacher. I like you. You're perfect! What other reasons do you need to justify my sympathy?"
"That's…" a pointer finger was aimed in my direction as she gasped for air again, only this time tilting her head too.
"No matter how you look at it, it's true," I nodded sympathetically, continuing to smile charmingly.
"And why did this happen to me?" the blonde mulatto shook her head with a sigh.
"Because you're smart, beautiful, an athlete, a Komsomo… ah, no, alas, that last item is missing, but everything else is there, so deal with it."
"That was a rhetorical question," Storm rolled her eyes.
