"Don't shut your eyes from the truth," my reflection said, her voice crawling under my skin. "Don't cover your ears. You think it too, don't you? If only his tail hadn't been noticed, you could have just sneaked away. You're living with all this guilt, but it's not even your mistake. It was his."
"No... no! Please don't... don't say such things!" I sobbed into my knees. "Koda... Koda isn't at fault!"
"Then who is at fault, if not him?" she asked, leaning down until I could feel the coldness of her words.
My brain was spinning. I couldn't stop thinking about it. Stop it! Stop thinking, Mirael! I tried to tell myself that Koda was the reason I stayed free for so many days before the bad men found us. He was the only reason I didn't get caught sooner!
