Seff stood still, the smile on his face slowly fading.
The wind that had been blowing against him ruffled his silver-white hair.
With a hint of disappointment, he let out a quiet sigh.
He had thought he'd finally found a worthy opponent, someone strong enough to stir his blood, to bring him joy in battle. And yet, in the end, it turned out to be nothing more than a pretender.
He sheathed his sword and turned around, ready to leave.
A full week spent traveling to this forsaken place, all for a single strike. Now he would need another week just to return.
The thought made Seff question himself, what the hell was he doing? Why waste time on something so meaningless?
Still… if nothing else, at least he could tell Yui that he had ended the legend of the killer in Kenpachi District.
"Oi, where do you think you're going? Don't tell me you're gonna land a single hit and run?"
Suddenly,
A voice rang out behind him.
Seff froze mid-step.
Before he even turned around, a powerful pressure exploded from behind him. The force was so tangible it stirred the air into a storm.
And then Seff realized something strange.
That wind blowing toward him… where had it come from?
He turned slowly to look over his shoulder.
The man he had just cut down was still lying there, but from his body, waves of overwhelming power now surged forth, clearly visible to the naked eye.
It was like lava erupting from a volcano, violent, relentless. This man was no mere mortal; he was a living inferno.
A devil reborn.
The raw energy bursting from him rushed like a tsunami, distorting the air itself. The very ground seemed to tremble beneath its weight.
Propping himself up with one hand, the man slowly stood and bared a blood-soaked grin.
"You seem... strong."
There was no intellect in his voice, nothing human. What radiated from him was pure savagery, beastlike power and unrestrained violence.
"So you're not gonna die from just one slash, huh?"
Seff's eyes narrowed. It felt as if a monstrous predator were staring straight into his soul, its presence piercing him like an arrow through the chest.
But Seff wasn't afraid.
The man who had taken that devastating blow wasn't dead, instead, he had risen stronger than before. His power had grown even more fearsome, exuding an aura Seff had never encountered.
And that... made him smile again.
The pressure rolling off the man wasn't just wind anymore, it was enough to crush everything in its path.
In response,
Seff released his own surging power. Black and violet heatwaves exploded around him in a circle, warping the very air. Strange particles of black and purple energy shimmered in the twisted space.
The two opposing forces collided, one like a tidal wave, the other like hellfire. The impact spiraled upward in a massive vortex, shooting skyward in a pillar of pure destruction.
Seff's hair, usually slicked back in a style reminiscent of Vergil, unraveled in the chaos, fluttering freely in the storm.
But he didn't care.
He simply drew his blade once more, and with a sharp slash, cleaved the swirling torrent aside.
The blast was diverted, tearing everything nearby to shreds and leaving only barren earth in its wake.
Across from him stood the man, chest drenched in blood, grinning madly, not in pain, not in defiance, but with wild anticipation.
"You're way more fun than those other trash I cut down!"
He raised his jagged, saw-like blade and pointed it straight at Seff, roaring with laughter.
"Then quit yapping, let's kill each other!"
Seff raised his own sword slowly, lifting it beside his face. His right hand guarded his left, the slender blade angled toward the beast-like man before him.
On one side, wild and raging energy poured out like a waterfall.
On the other, a quiet yet volatile storm brewed beneath a calm surface.
Both sides unleashed everything they had without restraint.
It was only then, triggered by the presence of this primal monster, that Seff realized just how much power he'd been suppressing.
In a world with no worthy opponents... where every direction he looked, all he found was trash... he had nearly forgotten what it meant to fight with purpose.
But now, he had someone worth going all out for.
The exaggerated grin on his face softened into a smile he couldn't quite hide.
"To fulfill one's wish, what greater honor is there?"
With those words, Seff vanished into a blur, launching a full-speed assault.
In his eyes, ghostly green flames flickered. His blade was no longer ordinary, dark purple energy coursed along the edge, and every swing left behind a visible arc of shadowy violet in the air.
He didn't bother opening with his usual technique, Zanshin. This wasn't the time for ceremony.
Instead, his first strike tore through the air with a roar, aimed straight at the beast.
But the man didn't flinch.
No elegance, no finesse, no magic tricks, just brute strength. He raised his saw-blade sword with both arms and brought it down.
Right before Seff's blade could land, the man's weapon slammed into it.
The sound was like shrieking steel.
Both fighters staggered back from the impact, pushed by the sheer force of the clash. Neither dropped their sword.
No words were exchanged.
The battle had begun. And from here on, there was no need for talk, only blades, and the will to kill.
A moment later,
They charged again, colliding head-on.
The sound of clashing swords echoed through the ruins. Shockwaves rippled outward with every strike, tearing through the ground, leveling everything in their path.
