Chapter 54 - Chapter 54: Beat Kairos Down to His Knees

"Worm, you've chosen death."

Kairos swung his staff, unleashing a blast of blue fire that instantly incinerated Datch.

He, Fateweaver, Tzeentch's chief daemon and master of destiny,

had been stuffed into that damnable ball—twice!—by a mere human trying to make him a pet.

Unforgivable. Only the most agonizing death could calm his rage.

Yet even as Datch's ashes drifted, he reappeared—resurrected.

"You dare burn me? I was going to make you a Pokémon, but now—!"

Datch's Staff suddenly grew to colossal size,

smashing down on Kairos's unguarded head.

The blow staggered Fateweaver, leaving him dazed.

How could this human revive so fast?

Kairos's fire could burn souls—yet Datch not only survived, but revived instantly.

Even the mightiest daemons needed time or a price to respawn!

Just what was this human?

Shocked and furious, Kairos attacked again, this time leaving not even ashes.

But the next instant—

"Bang! Bang!"

Datch was back, switching to his super shotgun and blasting Kairos.

A veteran, Kairos realized something was wrong and burst into flames, reforming meters away to dodge the barrage.

"I see..."

Kairos's eyes locked on Datch. Realization dawned.

"You're the variable who's disrupted fate itself—whom even my master has noticed."

Fateweaver realized his mistake:

this death-defying, chaos-bringing human was the real threat.

"Now that I've found you, you will not escape."

Kairos chanted ancient spells.

Hundreds of rune-inscribed chains snaked from the void, seeking to bind Datch.

At that moment, Guilliman charged Kairos, too fast for the eye to follow.

Daemons fell to the Emperor's Sword, burned to ashes.

The Hand of Dominion unleashed a storm of firepower, battering Fateweaver and breaking his spell.

"Despicable!" One of Kairos's heads turned to the Primarch, voice twisted by pain.

"You resort to ambush!"

"To speak of honor with such blasphemous beings is the height of stupidity!"

Guilliman shouted, the Emperor's Sword burning with golden fire as he struck again.

Kairos was forced back, opening distance.

The Primarch covered Datch, sword raised, facing Fateweaver.

"As long as I live, you'll never touch him."

Datch gave a silent thumbs-up.

"That's not for you to decide, Cursed One's kin."

Kairos spread his blue wings, unleashing a tide of psychic power.

He was determined—no matter what, he must capture this "variable" and bring him back to Tzeentch's realm.

"Unless you step over my corpse, you'll never succeed!"

Guilliman fought fiercely, sword and staff clashing.

The Emperor's fire, pure destruction, burned daemons.

Even getting close, Kairos's twisted form melted like wax, his soul wracked with pain.

"Why struggle?" Kairos crooned,

"You are but a shadow of past glory, a witness to your father's defeat. You should slumber in the past, not wander vainly now.

Hear me, Roboute Guilliman—there is no place for you on the tapestry of fate."

"The future is not my concern!"

Guilliman roared, voice thundering.

"All I care about now is purging your kind utterly!"

He raised the Emperor's Sword high and brought it down in a burning arc.

Kairos dared not take the blow head-on, retreating in disarray.

At that moment,

Datch, like a cunning hound, burst out from behind Guilliman.

He fired his super shotgun at Kairos—

"Bang! Bang!"

At such close range, the shots exploded,

shredding Kairos's shield and wounding him, making him scream in pain and rage.

"Aaaagh!!!"

Driven mad by agony, Kairos lashed out wildly,

unleashing fire, ice, lightning, and tentacles in all directions, trying to drive his enemies back.

Guilliman seized the chance, slicing through a bolt of warp lightning and charging.

The Emperor's Sword burned with holy fire, slashing deep into Kairos.

"Ksssssssssshhhh!!!"

The pain was indescribable; Kairos convulsed, howling.

Realizing he was outmatched, he ordered the daemons to stall Guilliman,

while he opened an unstable warp rift to escape.

"Trying to run?!"

Living Saint Celestine, unnoticed until now, soared overhead, wings blazing with holy light.

She hurled a radiant chain, forged of pure faith,

which snaked through the chaos and wrapped around Kairos.

The chain tightened and yanked, dragging the mighty daemon back from the rift and slamming him to the deck.

Celestine dove, her sword blazing with sacred fire, and stabbed down hard.

Squish!

The sword pierced one of Kairos's wings and his body, pinning him.

Holy fire seared the wound, filling the air with the stench of burning daemon and his agonized wails.

Guilliman strode forward, the Emperor's Sword blazing, ready to deliver the final blow.

"No!"

Datch's shout made Guilliman frown, turning the burning blade aside at the last moment.

"Nameless one?"

Guilliman turned, brows furrowed, eyes stern.

"Why stop me from purging this evil?"

"Capture him as a Servant! Use him as a Servant!"

Datch bounced up to the pinned Kairos and started punching his remaining bird head.

He'd played too much Pokémon and forgotten:

you have to weaken a Pokémon first before throwing a ball, to boost the capture rate.

Now, it was time to beat Kairos down to his knees—and take him as a Servant.
