Chapter 43 - Task Sharing

There were over a dozen Level 26 Skeleton Warriors. Murong Shanshan and I had to lure them three times to kill them all. I was fine, but Murong Shanshan, that clumsy girl, was quite frustrating. She couldn't control her steps and ended up luring a whole group of monsters, making me follow her, crying and shouting as the monsters chased us all the way to the small bridge. We didn't dare to breathe a sigh of relief until all the monsters had dispersed and returned.

Murong Shanshan even glared and said, "It's all your fault, you guy! If you hadn't pushed me just now, how would I have charged into that monster horde?"

"Damn it, how can you even say that!"

"Why can't I!"

"..."

After clearing the area again and killing all the monsters in front of the small house, Murong Shanshan peered through the crack in the door. She didn't seem to see anything and turned to me, saying, "You open the door!"

"Such a coward!" I muttered softly, pulling Murong Shanshan behind me. Then, I used my sword to chop off the latch on the small house's door and kicked it open.

"Ah!"

Murong Shanshan let out an exaggerated cry. I poked my head in and saw no ghosts or monsters, only a few human workers sitting inside, looking at Murong Shanshan and me with fear.

"This old lady, why are you screaming? You almost scared me to death!" I clutched my chest. Murong Shanshan's scream really gave me a fright; I thought there might be some Sadako-like creature inside.

Murong Shanshan was completely pressed against my back, two elastic soft mounds pressed tightly against my back. The sensation was wonderful, but what ruined the mood was that the system actually prompted me at that moment to ask if I wanted to issue an anti-sexual harassment warning, which I immediately dismissed. Being harassed by a top-tier beauty like Murong Shanshan? I couldn't ask for more!

"Alright, it seems there's a quest. Let's go in and see if we can get it! If we can, you take it first. Get your reputation to 10,000 as soon as possible!" I pulled Murong Shanshan from behind me to in front of me, then quickly pushed her in first.

After Murong Shanshan exchanged a few words with the humans, she turned back, looking at me hesitantly. At this moment, I also received a system notification: Accept shared team quest, help the Lumber Mill workers eliminate the nearby Undead, collect 100 ribs from Skeleton Squad Leaders, and return them to the Lumber Mill workers!

"So this quest can be done in a team!" Murong Shanshan said happily.

I was also surprised: "That's great! What you can get, I can get too!"

"Okay, let's go out and kill Skeleton Squad Leaders. There should be follow-up quests!"

Murong Shanshan was in a great mood and worked extra hard killing skeletons. Unfortunately, collecting the ribs of these Skeleton Squad Leaders was very difficult. In half an hour, we killed nearly 50 Skeleton Squad Leaders but didn't get many ribs. Instead, we gained a lot of experience. Murong Shanshan had just reached Level 20 and gained 1/3 of the experience for Level 20 in half an hour. I also gained nearly 1/4 of the experience. At this rate, I might reach Level 28 in one night here, assuming everything goes smoothly, of course.

We kept killing from 10 PM until 7 AM the next morning before we had both collected our quest items. After such high-intensity training, I had already reached Level 27, and the experience gained from killing Level 26 monsters was no longer much. Murong Shanshan was even more astonishing; in one night, she went directly from Level 19 to Level 25! This is something other players wouldn't even dare to imagine. Ordinary players, without such good equipment, even kill monsters cautiously and couldn't be like a rich woman such as Murong Shanshan, who would just chug a red potion when her health was low, not caring about money at all. And most of the time, I completely acted as her meat shield, so killing monsters was incredibly fast!

Arriving at the small wooden house, Murong Shanshan still went to turn in the quest. The system notification sound simultaneously rang in my ears: You have completed the quest — Lumberjack's Entrustment, gained 62,000 experience, 5 gold coins, and +520 reputation.

"Wow, 520 reputation all at once!" Murong Shanshan exclaimed in surprise.

"Yeah, me too. Too bad there's no equipment reward."

"It's okay, reputation is the most important now. Ah! There's a follow-up quest!"

System notification: After this Lumber Mill was occupied by the Undead, no living person has entered since. The few poor Lumber Mill workers have been trapped in the house for almost two weeks. They learned that these terrifying Undead creatures were summoned by an Undead Mage. By killing the Undead Mage, the crisis at the Lumber Mill can be resolved. It is said that the Undead Mage is in the warehouse deep within the Lumber Mill, where there is no human presence. You must proceed with caution! (Unique quest, shareable, team members for quest must not exceed three people)

Damn it, a unique quest was actually taken by two people at once?

Murong Shanshan said with a smile, "This Undead Mage should be considered a BOSS. That's great! Let's go do it now!"

I checked my equipment; most of it had very little durability left. After nearly ten hours of high-intensity combat, the most worn-out equipment had less than 1/10 durability remaining. However, it should still be enough to kill one BOSS. If we don't kill it now, when we log back in to kill the BOSS, we'll have to face a large group of small monsters at the entrance.

Murong Shanshan pointed her sword forward: "It's in that direction. That round building should be the warehouse."

I pushed her forward with my hand: "Go clear the way. My equipment has low durability, so I need to save it."

Murong Shanshan rolled her eyes at me then charged forward with her sword. Fortunately, we had already cleared the monsters ahead once, so now there were only a few scattered ones. Soon, we arrived at the warehouse entrance. This time, Murong Shanshan consciously opened the large door, and a faint dark aura wafted out from within.

Murong Shanshan looked inside and turned back, saying, "Lin Fan, there are 5 Level 30 Enhanced Skeleton Warriors inside. The Undead Mage is at the very back; I can't see its level. Do you go first or do I?"

The Undead Mage was a Level 32 BOSS, I could just see its level. Those five Level 30 Enhanced Skeleton Warriors were clearly not to be underestimated either. I wondered how their attack and defense compared to the Level 27 Skeleton Squad Leaders outside.

"Shanshan, how many red potions do you have left?"

"I still have four medium red potions, and one blue potion."

"Okay, give me three red potions. I estimate this Undead Mage can revive Enhanced Skeleton Warriors. I'll tank all the attacks, and we'll both focus our power on attacking the Undead Mage. We can ignore those 5 Skeleton Warriors for now."

"Alright, shall we start now?" Murong Shanshan traded three red potions to me, a hint of nervousness on her beautiful face.
