Chapter 91 - Chapter 88

"And that is all, the Wildcats team rises with the victory against the Asheville Bulldogs here at the Rupp Arena," the voice of the commentator was heard through the thousands of screens that at that moment were tuning into the game.

While he said those words, his voice was drowned out by the shouts and celebrations of the Wildcats fans who were present in the arena at that moment and found themselves happy for the good start their team had in this new season.

"And I think everyone knows the reason why the Wildcats team made themselves with the victory," the commentator added among the shouts of the crowd, while the Rupp Arena cameras pointed to a particular player who found himself wiping the sweat from his body without noticing that the cameras of the entire venue had him targeted.

"Aaron Reed, in his first game in the NCAA, gave us a great debut, demonstrating that he arrived to stay here," the commentator finished saying, so that on the screen Aaron's statistics in this game could be seen.

Aaron Reed (C)

Points: 35

Rebounds: 14

Assists: 10

Blocks: 2

"Incredible," the commentator could not help but say once he could look with more scrutiny at the statistics they were showing on the viewers' screen through a screen in front of him.

"Aaron Reed achieved a triple-double in his debut match in the NCAA," the commentator said with incredulity, just like several experts who saw the statistics on the screen.

"Since Chris Thomas achieved this in 2001 with the Notre Dame team, no player had achieved something like this, but after more than 10 years, Aaron Reed achieved the same record!!" shouted the commentator at the top of his lungs quickly until he lacked air in his lungs.

As soon as the statistics were shown on the screens of the entire stadium and the thousands of fans in the Rupp Arena saw them, the atmosphere became much more frenetic than it had been, if that was even possible.

Below on the court, it was seen how Aaron was surrounded by his teammates, who began to give him pats on the back while they celebrated with greater enthusiasm the victory of the team.

On the other hand, the Bulldogs team, once they heard the buzzer that the game had reached its end, lowered their heads in a clear sign of defeat while little by little they disappeared through the players' tunnel.

58-96 was the final score that could be read on the big screen in the middle of the court.

Will Weeks, stopping briefly to look back toward the court, could not help but look toward the middle of the court, on which the Wildcats team kept celebrating under the attentive gaze of all the fans of the team.

His gaze stopped unconsciously on the player with the jersey number 15 who found himself in the middle of all the players, who had a smile from ear to ear just like the rest of his teammates.

"Damn monster," he could not help but murmur, to then pull his sight away from the court as if seeing that were the most repulsive thing in the world, until little by little his figure disappeared into the players' tunnel.

In one of the stands of the stadium, the same guy who wore the Anthony Davis number 23 jersey found himself celebrating together with his friends in every rule.

"Dude, we massacred them without mercy," his companion told him, who found himself jumping along with the rest of the people around him.

On the contrary, his other companion found himself seated in his seat with his gaze fixed on the scoreboard on which Aaron's statistics could be seen, and a look of pure concentration hovered over his face.

"Man, what are you doing sitting there? Celebrate," his friend told him, seeing how his friend seemed to ignore him and murmured to himself with total concentration.

"44 and we add..." he was heard murmuring, until suddenly a look of total incredulity placed itself on his face, standing up all of a sudden, completely scaring his friend, who almost went backward at that.

"What's wrong with you?" he could not help but ask him with bewilderment upon seeing such a marked change of attitude from his companion.

"58," his friend only said, as if by saying that number it were all he needed to say so that the rest of the people around him would understand it.

"Yeah, we already know that the Bulldogs only scored 58 points," his other friend said, as if that were something obvious and that everyone knew.

"You don't understand," his companion said with incredulity, as if he still processed what he had discovered.

"He alone generated 58 points adding his points and assists," he said while his slightly trembling finger pointed in the direction toward Aaron, who had approached the sideline and was receiving the effusive congratulations on the part of Coach Calipari.

That single comment caused the incredulity of his friends, just like the majority of people around them who had heard what he had said.

"Are you sure?" asked the person who was seated a row above them, wanting to confirm if what the guy said was true.

"Yes, it is," said someone who found himself seated next to the person who had made the question and had arrived at the same conclusion as the guy in question.

"That means that he alone contributed with the same amount of points as the entire Bulldogs team," another person said with incredulity, while comprehension could be seen on the faces of all the people upon understanding that detail.

And they were not the only ones, since little by little more people in the stands and people who watched the game realized the same thing, while little by little people began to notice and know Aaron's name.

Queens, New York

In the living room of the Reeds' apartment, the television showed the replays of Aaron's best plays from different camera angles, causing Melissa to be unable to help but let out a shout of joy while she clapped with strength in front of the living room screen.

"That's my son!" exclaimed Melissa with a great proud maternal smile reflected on her face while she turned toward Paola, who also found herself celebrating her nephew's basket on the apartment furniture.

"I told you, Melissa, that boy is a monster on the court," Paola said between laughs while she took a handful of popcorn to her mouth, feeling much more relieved upon seeing that the match went in an excellent manner for Aaron's team in Kentucky.

From the interior hallway of the house, the bedroom door opened slowly, revealing a tired Hector, who came carrying the small Mia in his arms, who had finally fallen completely asleep after several minutes of constant rockings on the part of her father.

"Please lower the volume a bit, you guys don't want this little princess to wake up again right now," Hector asked in a low voice while he walked with care toward the living room sofa so as not to make any annoying noise that could ruin his effort with his little daughter on this Friday night.

Melissa rolled her eyes with amusement at that comment, but even so she decided to listen to him and lowered a couple of points from the television volume with the living room remote control.

"Look at him, Hector, our boy just performed a complete massacre against the other team," Paola whispered to her husband, indicating with her finger the television screen on which Aaron could be seen returning to defend with total calm in his features.

Hector, upon seeing the replay in the corner of the screen, could not help but nod with a look full of respect and pride toward the young man he once saw training on the local high school courts in New York.

"He was definitely born to play basketball," Hector could not help but say, echoing what everyone in this room thinks and the majority of people too who watched the game.

With care, Hector took a seat, procuring for any reason to avoid the little one he had between his arms from getting up and crying again.

"You have taken the words right out of my mouth," Melissa said without even bothering to turn, still concentrated on the television screen on which several analysts and college basketball professionals gave their comments about Aaron's performance in his first game of the season.

"And definitively, Aaron Reed performed a debut with which any other rookie would wish to perform in front of thousands of people," one of the commentators said while in the studio the best moments of the match could be seen.

"A triple-double is no small thing, and much less in a conference as competitive as the SEC is," his companion said in front of the screen, while Aaron's statistics kept being seen across the screen.

Then what followed were several comments in which the commentators kept talking and giving compliments in the direction toward Aaron, to then continue talking about other games that had been played on the same date.

"And after this victory, they prepare for their next game in 2 days against the Norse of NKU," the commentator finished saying. "Too bad it's not against the University of Louisville," his companion said with a smile.

"That clash will have to wait until March," the other said with a smile, while he wondered which of the two teams would take the victory, whether the Wildcats under the command of Aaron Reed or the Jayhawks of the University of Kansas.

Seeing how the conversation little by little moved away from the Kentucky match, Melissa decided to turn off the TV while she took the empty bowls with the help of Paola to the dishwasher.

"It seems that our boy is tearing it up down there in the South," Paola said while both found themselves washing the dishes, while Hector kept without moving, procuring that Mia kept sleeping deeply.

"I always knew that he would go very far anywhere," Melissa said with a maternal smile on her face while she continued washing the dishes.

"Well, we both think the same then," Paola said, being in agreement with what her friend said, who had become her sister over several years.

After that, a comfortable silence installed itself in the small apartment while everyone shared the feeling of pride upon seeing how their boy had started to carve out a path.

Broadway, New York

In the library of Columbia University, several students could be seen completely concentrated on their books and studying to keep themselves up to date with the demanding level of studies that belonging to this prestigious university signified.

At one of the tables in the corner of the university, a young blonde girl could be seen, who was concentrated on the screen of her mobile phone, watching the end of the Kentucky Wildcats game.

"That's it!!" Hannah could not help but exclaim, causing the gazes of the students in the library to fix on her, who simply put on an apologetic smile while she buried her head against the desk.

"What a show, Hannah," a voice said, sitting at her side with a joking look.

"Shut up, Vicky, how embarrassing," Hannah said in the direction toward her new friend, who simply stuck her tongue out at her.

"How are you doing, ready for the next physiology exam with Doctor Johnson?" Vicky asked her while she took a seat at the side of Hannah and pulled out her own physiology book.

At that, Hannah made a face; she was supposed to have come specially to the library to be able to concentrate, but she could not help but think that it would also be Aaron's first game of the season.

Originally she wanted to give it only a glance, but then she stayed hooked until the game ended.

Seeing the face her friend put on, Vicky simply moved her head playfully in a sign of disappointment while she opened her own book.

"Well, let's get to work before it's late," Vicky said, opening her book and pulling her notes out of the backpack.

As the minutes passed, Vicky could not help but say, "I heard that Tomas invited you out again," Vicky said, still with her gaze fixed on the book as if her comment were the most common thing in the world.

At that, Hannah could not help but let out a sigh of annoyance, remembering how insistent he had been since the semester began.

"I've already said that I have a boyfriend," Hannah said without even pulling her eyes away from the book she had on the desk.

"Sure, the boyfriend that nobody knows," Vicky said with a sarcastic tone of voice, giving to understand that she did not believe her since until now she had never seen Hannah with anyone who was her boyfriend.

"I already told you that he studies in another state," Hannah told her, repeating what had been her answer several times.

"Well, I'm just saying, long-distance relationships don't work," Vicky said, stopping as soon as she saw the look that Hannah threw in her direction, causing the latter to raise her hands in a sign of peace.

"Ok, ok, I didn't say anything," she said. "But I'm just saying that as long as we don't see your boyfriend, Tomas won't stop flirting with you," she finished telling her, to then concentrate again on her notes.

And thus the day had reached its end, demonstrating to everyone that Kentucky arrived to be the revelation of the entire NCAA tournament.
