Zerath Solcrest. This was the name I had high hopes for. Declining family, his father can't keep up the image.
His brother failed at the academy. While his mother was cheating with the other duke. He was also a talented kid. Such a shame.
He was a perfect blend of everything I was waiting for. If not from his shitty personality, he would be my choice.
I crossed his name from my lists of potential candidates and nodded to myself. It was not that easy to set up the elaborate plan to trap him.
I just used my family's name and some financial strings.
I called the names of the students, this time I made them use the other mana crystal. Seriously, why don't they share their darkest desires?
I can promise that it is a healthy thing to do. After finishing the test, I checked the lists and saw the overall mana grade of this year's first student.
I must say, this was an irregular bunch of students. Of course, I knew the reason.
I let out a sigh and signalled all the students to leave. I stood alone on the platform and stared at the mana crystal.
I was tempted to check my own darkest secret not because I was exhibitionist wanting to show my things. I just wanted to see what it would show me.
Obviously, my secret. But I wanted to know which one. After all, the crystal was made from magic.
I sighed and about to place my palm on the crystal.
"Johan."
I stopped myself and fixed my monocle. I slowly turned and faced the woman who called out my name.
She was a tall woman, a head taller than me. Her long lavish black hair which she let it dance. She looked at the crystal with annoyance.
"Johan." She called out my name again.
I sighed. "Yeah. I heard it."
"Why did you pull the prank on the student? Don't you know Zerath is the youngest son of Solcrest. He is important to the Empire's future. You can't humiliate him like that."
I rolled my eyes. "Relax, Mia. It is just a prank. I am sure the Empire understands."
"You." Mia seemed to be taken by my answer as she stared at me with confusion. She studied me with intense eyes and turned around.
"The headmaster is calling you. I hope you will leave the academy. You are not suited for teaching." Mia said and left the area.
I looked at her back and let out a smile.
She was correct. I was not fit for this kind of job. But I have no choice. I needed to get this job no matter what.
Because it depended on my life.
I focused my attention into the air and a familiar system popped out.
Name- Johan Noise
Rank -???
It was pathetic to see the system like this. I poked around, trying to see the changes but nothing happened.
I snapped my fingers, calling my servant.
An old man with grey hair arrived out of the shadows. He wore a formal suite and bowed at me.
"What can I do, Sir Johan?" River said without looking at me.
I didn't say a word and immersed myself in the natural beauty of the surroundings. The sun was just strong enough to give me a warm hug while the wind brought a refreshing chill to my back.
"Clear the place, River. I will go meet with the headmaster." I said and turned around.
"Yes, Sir." River nodded. "Are you going to leave this place?"
I shook my head. "No. I am going to become a teacher here."
River's eyes widened. I enjoyed his surprise quite a lot. Ever since I got here, he had been a constant headache for me. Thank God, I have good luck.
I waved my hands and continued walking to the academy. The academy field was so vast that it took me one hour to reach. Granted I was lost on the way but it didn't excuse the poor design of the academy.
I fixed my monocle again and headed directly to the headmaster. On the way, I met students of all years. They mostly leave me alone. But I heard some mutters from behind.
As a human being, I could help but try to listen to those.
Damn, am I really that scary? I shook my head and opened the door.
Ah. I forgot to knock. I needed to train my manners. Staying in that place corrupted my gentleman's blood.
I scanned the room. It was the same room I came from when I first arrived at the academy. I saw an old woman with a giant pointy hat weeping at her plants.
I sensed mana dancing around her palm. It was impressive I must say. She is worthy of the name the strongest magic user of the academy.
That was a lie, of course she will be the strongest. She is a headmaster.
He nodded to her and walked up to the center of the room where they placed the chairs and table.
I pulled out the chair and sat down. I patted my pocket and took a cigarette from it. I put on my mouth and noticed that I forgot my lighter.
"Lighter?"
"It is rude to ask for a lighter. Especially at the prestige room of the headmaster." The old lady said, putting down the water cattle.
She came toward my direction and sat opposite of me. She was graceful, no doubt she was a beauty in her prime. Heck, she was beautiful even now under all that wrinkles.
I sighed and snapped my finger. The spark flew out from the snap and landed on my cigarette. I inhaled and let out the grey smoke. It danced freely in the air and disappeared.
"So what do you want from me?" I asked.
"About the prank you pulled on Solcrest's son."
"Oh come on, that is just a prank. There is no harm in that. Besides that will strengthen his heart." I said in annoyance etched on my voice.
"That little prank of yours broke the kid's hand."
"Well, that is pathetic. He couldn't even use a mana imbuement." I chuckled. "And who told him to punch the magic crystal."
The old lady shook her head and stared at me intensely. Her eyes were kind.
"Not everyone is as talented as you." She paused, trying to gauge my expression.
Good luck with that, I learned how to mask my face. After living in this world for two years, I picked up an important skill.
She sighed and shifted the conversation. "Well, that is sad. I would like to talk to you about your request."
I nodded. "I will change my request. I want to be a homeroom teacher for this year's students."
The old lady frowned.
"Can I ask you the reason for the sudden change of heart?"
I puffed the smoke and smiled. "I want to try new things. Besides, teaching has always been my childhood dream."
I saw the headmaster's confused look and decided to add more. "To tell you the truth, the current state of the Empire is pathetic."
"You will get beheaded for badmouthing the Emperor." The old lady warned.
"But that is the truth. Do you know how many kids died on the battlefield?"
"It is the same as always."
I shook my head. "No. It will not be anymore. Demon forces are getting stronger. They are adapting to our magic as we speak. Right now, it is a peaceful period because of the work my family puts out."
The old lady nodded. "Humanity depends on your family."
"But that is not enough, Vellisa."
The old lady smiled and released the magic pressure. I felt the entire room compressed into a tiny drop. The pressure was strong enough to drop my mask a little bit.
Nevertheless, I acted as if it didn't affect me. I gently tapped th ring on my left hand to draw in the power of the creature I made a contract.
"Need help?" An errier voice echoed inside my head.
No. Just help me withstand the pressure.
"Huh. You are so weak, Johan."
I smiled inwardly.
Yeah. Yeah. I know I am weak.
Then the creature helped me with its own mana. I saw my body covered in purple mist, shielding me from the pressure.
The old lady glanced at that and sighed. The pressure dropped.
I didn't react that and continued with my talk.
"Because of that, I decided to teach the kids. What's wrong with that? Aren't you happy? The strongest demon hunter family sent their heir to teach at this academy." I said.
The old lady paused and let out a defeated sigh.
"Fine. You will be the homeroom teacher of Class A and combat magic teacher. Satisfied?"
I nodded. "More than enough. I am sorry for putting in this situation."
"Enough with that pathetic sorry. I don't know what you are aiming at this academy but knowing your family history. I doubt you have bad intentions, right?"
I stood up and walked to the entrance. I opened the door and closed it without answering her.
She was correct. I don't have bad intentions. In fact I truly wanted to get the kids to get stronger. Because it all depends on the fate of the world.
After all, I am in a really shitty novel.
