Chapter 48 - Bonus– Quiet Days, Living On

Time changed things.

Not all wounds vanished—some never would—but they learned how to live around them.

Jane stood at the front of the classroom, sunlight spilling through tall windows and glinting off the metal of her robotic arm as she adjusted her glasses. Rows of students—witches, shifters, and a few gifted humans—watched her with focused curiosity.

"Magic without understanding is dangerous," Jane said calmly, writing equations beside a glowing spell circle. "And science without ethics is just another weapon. The future depends on knowing both."

A few students exchanged impressed looks.

Jane smiled, confidence settling naturally on her now. Her dragon blood was no longer a threat—it was quiet, stable, woven carefully into her magic through months of Levi's guidance, patience, and presence.

When the class ended, students filed out buzzing with excitement.

Jane exhaled softly.

She was a teacher now.

When she returned home that evening, the apartment smelled faintly of spices and something warm.

Levi stood near the stove, her horns hidden beneath an illusion charm, wings sealed away by careful magic. She wore simple clothes—nothing regal, nothing dangerous.

Just Levi.

"You're late," Levi said lightly, glancing over her shoulder.

Jane laughed, setting her bag down. "You say that like you weren't the one who convinced me to stay after class and help a student."

Levi hummed. "Guilty."

Levi went up to Jane and gave her a kiss at the cheek.

They ate together at the small table by the window, city lights flickering beyond the glass. Sometimes they talked about the day. Sometimes they didn't need to.

On quieter nights, they went out—shopping in crowded streets, sharing street food, sitting side by side in dim cafés where Levi kept her gaze lowered and her magic restrained.

No one noticed her.

That was the point.

Levi had learned how to hide—how to fold centuries of power into something small enough to survive in a world that still feared demons.

Jane reached for Levi's hand under the table, metal fingers brushing warm skin.

"You okay?" Jane asked softly.

Levi squeezed back. "I am. As long as you're here."

Jane leaned her head against Levi's shoulder. "You know… this is kind of nice. Ordinary."

Levi smiled faintly. "I ruled a kingdom once," she said. "I never imagined I'd trade it for grocery lists and shared dinners."

Jane grinned. "Regret it?"

Levi shook her head. "Not for a moment."

Outside, sirens echoed distantly. News screens still whispered about missing histories, forbidden wars, unanswered questions.

But for now—

They had a home.

They had each other.

And for two souls forged by violence and loss, that quiet was nothing short of miraculous.
