"Are you okay?" Kelvin's voice came out anxious, no matter how much he tried to keep his tone calm and steady.
At that moment, it was the only thing that mattered to him.
The world itself could crumble into an apocalypse, and Kelvin would still choose, above all else, to keep Sonia safe.
There was a brief pause on the other end of the line, and with every second of silence, his pulse spiked uncontrollably.
'Can you talk to me?' he almost pleaded inwardly when she didn't respond immediately.
"What could possibly go wrong with me?" Sonia replied lightly, her voice carrying a casual ease. However, the next moment, her tone shifted ever so slightly. "Is… is something wrong?"
Kelvin felt his heart settle a little at the sound of her voice. The tension in his body eased, though only marginally.
"Kel, what's going on? Is something wrong?" Sonia pressed again, clearly picking up on the unease he had failed to hide.
