Sonia barely heard him. The sudden collision had worsened her already fragile condition, and a powerful wave of dizziness washed over her without warning. The world around her spun violently, causing her vision to blur.
"Are you okay?" the young man asked in alarm.
Sonia tried to answer him, but before she could form a single word, blood trickled from the corner of her lips. Her breathing became increasingly uneven, each breath more difficult than the last.
She weakly shook her head. The young man's expression changed immediately. Acting on instinct, he grabbed her wrist and quickly checked her pulse.
The moment his fingers touched her skin, his eyes widened. Her pulse was erratic. Dangerously erratic.
"Shit!" the young man cursed under his breath.
Without wasting another second, he pressed the communication device hidden in his ear. "Sir," he said urgently, "it's not good."
