Chapter 45 - Chapter 45

"Meow, you move the air conditioner inside first. I'll figure out how to arrange the wiring and install it."

Chen Yi wiped the sweat from his face. Not a single cool breeze stirred the air; it was as stifling as a steamer. Too hot.

"Brother, why don't we wait until nighttime to install the air conditioner?"

Li Miao'er grabbed two packets of wet wipes to help him wipe away the sweat, looking at his handsome face flushed with heat.

She felt a pang of distress. How could such a delicate beauty be made to do such tiring work?

"Can't wait. We're starting now!"

Chen Yi licked his chapped, thin lips and directly moved the unopened small drum of engine oil to the parking shed, planning to fix the generator first.

He still had to wire and install the air conditioner. It would be nice to have an assistant. He was really exhausted and suffocating.

Huff, huff... "You little troublemaker, why didn't you wait for me just now?!" Ye Qing'er ran up, panting, and asked angrily.

Her cute "little bunnies" seemed to have grown a bit more sizable, her beautiful willow-leaf brows tightly furrowed with a pained expression.

This sports top material isn't suited for running—it almost rubbed the skin raw. It really hurts.

"There's so much stuff in the truck, there's no room for another person. Did you still want to ride back?"

Li Miao'er looked at her disdainfully. So what if she lost some fingers? Still couldn't beat me.

"Hmph!"

Ye Qing'er snorted, let out a long breath, and ran to the parking shed to help Chen Yi carry the oil drum.

Since I can't beat Little Troublemaker now, I'll focus on capturing her brother's heart first, then try to beat her later.

Chen Yi unscrewed the oil cap dipstick, pulled it out, wiped it on a leaf, and examined it.

There wasn't much oil stored inside, but it was decent quality. No need to dismantle it for an oil change.

"Sister Qing'er, fill it up with engine oil. And the diesel from the truck—be careful not to spill it."

Chen Yi demonstrated for Sister Qing'er, then unwrapped a coil of wire and brought it over.

The parking shed was about seven or eight meters from his building's corridor. Had to connect the steel pipes first, then run the wires through.

"Xiao Yi, isn't engine oil the same as diesel?" Ye Qing'er asked, puzzled.

"Sister Qing'er, engine oil is lubricant for machine parts—it's like their blood. Diesel is fuel for power generation. They're different."

Chen Yi looked at Sister Qing'er and couldn't help but chuckle. He saw several dark smudges of engine oil on her face—probably from wiping it with dirty hands.

"Xiao Yi, what are you laughing at?"

Ye Qing'er looked down. She was indeed a bit grimy. Was he laughing at me?

"It's nothing, Sister Qing'er. Your hands are covered in engine oil, so don't wipe your face with them."

Chen Yi turned and fetched the steel pipes and clamps. He threaded one end of the wire through a pipe and screwed the connecting pipes together.

Get the wires and steel pipes aligned, then cover them with a layer of bricks. That way, we won't have to worry about the wires getting damaged.

"Brother, here's a Coke."

Li Miao'er handed over the Coke she'd taken a sip from. Her little face was flushed from the heat, exhausted from carrying things and climbing stairs.

Gulp...

Chen Yi took the Coke and drank it all in one go, then let out a soft hiccup as he caught his breath. If only it were iced Coke.

"Meow, we just need to connect this steel pipe to the corridor and run the wires to our apartment. Then hook up the switches and circuit breakers, and basically, we'll be set."

He sat in the shaded corridor, squinting his eyes. Sweat dripped down his flushed face, his arms trembling slightly. He was truly tired and overheated.

"Brother, you rest properly. Let me handle this. Mwah~"

Li Miao'er leaned close to her brother, hugged him, and gave him a light kiss before tightening the steel clamp. This sort of thing was still pretty straightforward.

"Brother, when I'm strong enough, I'll build you the most luxurious palace, so all you have to do every day is eat, drink, and be merry~"

Li Miao'er licked her pink lips and pulled the steel pipe over, already envisioning the beautiful, happy future life she and her brother would share.

Xiao Yi, I've finished filling the oil. What else needs doing? Ye Qing'er stood at the entrance of the parking shed, holding her chest as she whispered.

"Sister Qing'er, that's fine. Just move the stuff from the truck back upstairs."

Chen Yi braced himself against the wall and stood up. He picked up the small toolbox and walked to the parking shed, ready to connect the wiring.

Sss...

Ye Qing'er clutched her chest with a sharp inhale of pain. She turned, holding the copper pipes and toolbox, and called out, "Xiao Yi, I'm going back to change first. I'll come help you later."

"Mhm."

Chen Yi nodded with a smile. Why did Sister Qing'er's expression seem a bit off?

Not dwelling on it, he directly connected the wire to the power supply socket, then linked up all the necessary wire ends, double-checking for any mistakes.

"Brother, not finished yet?" Li Miao'er asked, standing to the side with her lips pursed. She'd been waiting several minutes.

"It should be fine. We'll wait a bit and try starting it up after connecting the wires. Whew..."

Chen Yi took a deep breath, wiped the sweat from his face, packed up the pliers and other tools, and walked back home holding Sister Meow's small hand.

Click...

"Ack! Sss..."

Just as Chen Yi pushed open the door, he bumped right into Sister Qing'er, who was about to come out. She slumped to the ground, clutching her chest.

Her alluring vermilion lips kept blowing out sharp breaths, her face instantly turning pale as paper.

"Sister Qing'er, do you have a chill?"

Chen Yi hurriedly helped Sister Qing'er onto the sofa. Her delicate body was trembling violently. Could she have caught a cold or a fever?

"Brother, she's fine. Just let her rest a bit."

Li Miao'er pulled her brother over with a mischievous smirk. She didn't need to think to know what was going on. Those lively 'rabbits' were swollen up like that. Just imagining it was painful enough.

Huff... puff... "Xiao Yi, bring me some painkillers!"

Ye Qing'er kept panting heavily, beads of sweat rolling down her pretty face. The pain was so intense she felt like killing someone, her beautiful voice turning hoarse.

Chen Yi pressed his thin lips together and nodded wordlessly. He brought over both Yunnan Baiyao powder and painkillers.

Sister Qing'er is really in a sorry state... but the feeling from that bump earlier was pretty good. Full of bounce, and really sizable.

"Sister Qing'er, lie down and rest for a while. Once I finish connecting the wires, everything will be fine."

Chen Yi took a glass of water and gently helped her take the pills, then walked back outside and opened the meter box mounted on the wall. It was full of dust and a mess of tangled wires.

"So filthy. Don't know if it's even usable anymore." He held his chin in thought for a moment. Maybe we should just get a new one.

"Brother, let me."

Li Miao'er wrapped her arms around her brother's waist, pulling him aside, and gave him a mischievous squeeze.

Crash! Rip!

She directly tore off the meter box and the cluster of wires behind it.

Chen Yi crouched down to inspect. He removed two clean circuit breakers—small ones would suffice.

Better than connecting directly to a power strip. If there's an electrical issue, it'll trip directly, indirectly protecting the appliances. Besides, we won't be staying here long anyway. We'll have to relocate again soon.
