"Captain, you can be my very first test subject!"
Nami's eyes darted around mischievously. Then, before Ryuuto could react, she reached out and swiped her hand across his body.
In Nami's perception, all of Ryuuto's luck had just been stolen away.
"Great! Just great! My crewmate gets a Devil Fruit power, and the first thing she does is use it on her captain! Is there no order on this ship anymore!"
Seeing that Nami had succeeded, Ryuuto could only feign indignant anger.
"Hehehe... I've got something to do, so I'll be heading out now!"
Nami looked a little sheepish. She giggled, then turned and scurried out of the cabin.
Ryuuto just gave a wry smile and prepared to follow her out.
Who knew that the moment he reached the doorway, he would somehow lose his footing, his body lurching toward the doorframe.
"Soru!"
Fortunately, Ryuuto reacted in time. With a single step, he vanished from the cabin, avoiding the collision.
But as luck would have it, the instant Ryuuto reappeared on deck, a banana peel materialized right under his foot.
It turned out that Nami was eating a banana with one hand while watering her tangerine trees with the other. The peel was hers.
Smack!
Ryuuto had no time to react and went sprawling to the ground.
"Damn, it's starting already?" Ryuuto thought as he lay on the deck. Say what you will, this fruit's ability was a real pain.
"A conceptual ability, just as I thought!"
"Captain, what happened to you?" Nami asked, turning around when she heard the thud and seeing Ryuuto on the ground.
"It's nothing, just a bit of bad luck!" Ryuuto said, scrambling to his feet, at a loss for words.
"Ah, so it's already working?" Nami muttered, so quietly only she could hear.
"Captain, I won't use you as a test subject next time!" Nami understood that Ryuuto would be unlucky for the rest of the day. Feeling a pang of regret, she apologized.
"It's fine, it's fine. I'm not hurt. I'm curious about this fruit's power too." Ryuuto waved his hand to show her it was no big deal.
"By the way, Nami, here's a Log Pose for you. Once we enter the Grand Line, we'll head straight for this place!"
Ryuuto tossed the Log Pose from his pocket to Nami. That was the thing that had been digging into him when he fell.
"Is this...? A Log Pose that's already set!" Nami murmured, examining it.
Where did the captain get this? Dragon? Nami wondered.
She had to admit, her guess was spot on.
Knowing he was in for a day of bad luck, Ryuuto didn't take any chances. He brought a sun umbrella out and lay down on a deck chair.
"Nami, it's time to set sail!" Ryuuto called out to her as she studied the Log Pose.
He then stomped on the deck, signaling for Mohmoo to get moving.
"Moo!" Mohmoo, who had been lazing about in boredom, perked up at Ryuuto's signal. He let out a loud bellow and prepared to pull the Tenglong forward.
"Mohmoo, you're going the wrong way!" Nami shouted, quickly pulling out her sea chart.
Mohmoo finally turned around and began pulling the Tenglong swiftly across the sea.
The sun was warm, the breeze was gentle, and seabirds danced in the distance. It was the kind of day that made one feel wonderfully lazy.
The only imperfection was Ryuuto's terrible luck.
Every so often, a wave would splash in his face, or a seabird would drop a bioweapon on him.
Sometimes, his reflexes were fast enough to dodge, but other times, there was simply no escape.
As for Nami...
She had already caught three large fish that had practically jumped onto the ship out of impatience to be caught.
Her luck was through the roof!
Taking advantage of the downtime, Ryuuto decided to check the system in his mind.
He hadn't had a chance to look at it until now.
Upon entering the system interface, he was surprised to find a new [Personal Status] screen.
Ryuuto
Skills: Six Powers - Soru, Six Powers - Rankyaku, Six Powers - Shigan, Six Powers - Geppo
Wind Summoning: Proficient
Rain Calling: Novice
[System Friendly Reminder: Mastery levels for Wind Summoning and Rain Calling are divided into: Novice, Proficient, Expert, Master, Perfected]
What's going on? It looks like I have two new skills, Wind Summoning and Rain Calling, complete with mastery levels. Could it be because I used that Wind and Rain Trial Card? But I haven't officially obtained those skills yet, have I? No, wait!
With that thought, Ryuuto quickly exited the system interface.
He sat up from his deck chair and clenched his right fist. Sure enough, a small tornado formed in his palm, spinning silently.
The sight filled Ryuuto with an overwhelming joy.
Holy...! This is an incredible surprise! Does this mean I've already mastered the ability to summon wind?
He crushed the tornado in his hand and then began to test his rain-calling ability.
Calming his mind, Ryuuto focused his senses on the clouds above, willing them to gather. The clouds directly over his head slowly converged and condensed.
Boom! A crash echoed in his mind as the storm clouds collided.
Rain began to fall out of nowhere, but only in the area around the Tenglong.
Beyond the ship, the sky was still clear and sunny.
Pitter-patter... The drizzle intensified, quickly becoming a downpour.
"Why is it raining all of a sudden?" Nami, who had been dozing next to Ryuuto, was startled awake by the sound of rain hammering against the umbrella.
"Huh? What's going on? It's only raining in this small area!"
Nami quickly realized the rain was confined to the space immediately around their ship.
Meanwhile, Ryuuto, who was reveling in the joy of successfully summoning rain, felt his stamina draining at an alarming rate.
"Hah..." This takes too much energy.
Ryuuto gasped for breath and quickly stopped the ability.
The moment he stopped, the clouds overhead rapidly dispersed and vanished.
The rain stopped just as abruptly.
"Hey, the rain came and went in a flash! How strange! But that doesn't seem natural, and we're not even in the Grand Line yet. What on earth is going on?"
Nami racked her brain, trying to recall anything from her meteorology studies that could explain it, but nothing fit. She muttered to herself beside Ryuuto, completely baffled.
"Nami, don't be so surprised. It's just me testing out a new ability!"
Ryuuto explained cheerfully.
"Captain, that was your new ability? That's amazing!" Nami exclaimed in shock.
"Captain, you didn't eat a Devil Fruit too, did you?" Nami asked suspiciously, wondering if he had found two fruits and kept one for himself before giving her the other.
"I haven't eaten any Devil Fruit!"
