Seeing Rhys standing at my front door brought an instant, traitorous smile to my face. I had been waiting for him ever since my phone started blowing up with his calls. I had been so tempted to pick up every single time it rang, my thumb hovering over the screen, but I held back.
When the calls finally stopped, regret hit me hard. I had wanted him to keep trying, to prove he cared enough to fight for us. Instead, silence. Then Soren and Leo started calling, and I ignored those too, knowing they were probably on his behalf.
All I had really wanted was for Rhys to keep calling until I felt ready to forgive him. And now here he was, exactly as I had pictured — standing right in front of my door.
A deep, satisfied smile spread across my face as I turned away, pretending to walk back inside.
I couldn't stay mad at him for long. I knew that about myself.
