A guy in a school jacket and jeans burst through the classroom door, practically vibrating with energy.
"Holy shit! Amara's back!" he shouted.
A girl in the front row looked up, confused. "Wait, who's Amara?"
Lucas Harrington grinned wide, gesturing wildly. "You know, that chick from freshman year who disappeared? Long hair, super thin, total stunner?"
His description sparked instant recognition across the room.
During freshman year, when everyone was still getting acquainted, Amara had been unforgettable.
She carried herself differently, like she existed on another plane from the rest of Merida Academy students.
But just a month into the semester, she'd disappeared on leave, and gradually people stopped mentioning her.
"Listen to this," Lucas whispered conspiratorially. "I just passed the office and saw Byron with Amara outside, deep in conversation. Byron looked like he'd swallowed something nasty. That girl's got balls!"
