Chapter 22 - Against a Wight of the Death, the Fire Death Knight (1)

Edward kept his sword in front of him, watching carefully to see what this Wight of Death intended to do. He did not attack his subordinates, as he needed to verify that it did not plan to move; otherwise, he would seek another strategy.

But it did not move.

Even when the zombies reached him and he defended himself from their attacks, the Wight simply watched from afar.

"Good..." Edward smiled.

He knew this guy was doing it because he recognized that its level was much higher than its opponent's, but it didn't realize that Edward had thoroughly studied its attack pattern, which would be its downfall.

For now, he took a step back to dodge one of the charges from these zombie swordsmen. As he fought them in this final hour, he better understood how they moved and attacked.

Its attacks are relatively fast, but that's because its upper body is fast, not because the zombie itself is fast. Its main weakness was its lower body, which was too slow.

It moves slowly and, although it can "run," it is generally clumsy. And that's something he took full advantage of.

His backward movement avoided one of the swords, which, finding nothing solid to strike, flew past him uncontrollably. This destabilized the confused zombie, which ended up falling face-first toward Edward... Seconds later, its head was severed from its body, right where it connected to the core.

His attack was precise, but it was only the beginning...

His forward movement caused one of the zombies approaching from the side to stumble over his body and fall on top of him, which gave it a jab right in the nose... used to allow the caterpillar to pass through it undetected by the Wight of Death.

CLANK!

As the caterpillar did its quick work and moved with agility, he managed to avoid being decapitated by the third zombie's sword and jumped on it, stabbing it in the neck with his sword and cutting it in half.

All this happened in less than 10 seconds. Even he was impressed by his own movement. He didn't remember being so good with the sword...

But he smiled and looked up.

"I think I kept you waiting," he said, looking at the Wight.

But then...

His face tensed, and as quickly as he could, he swung his sword toward the head, seeing that the Wight had decided to attack at some point without being noticed...

SWOSH!

The only thing that met him was the wind left behind by something fast that passed by him, and he was alarmed. It had managed to get behind him so quickly... He didn't hesitate.

He attacked backward at full speed, looking for a way to hit it and put some distance between them...

CLANK!

His sword fell on the armor of the wight right arm, making a sound. But that gave him a glimpse of what this boss was looking for.

It wasn't aiming at him... Its sword was heading towards the mouth of the fire zombie that was being devoured by his caterpillar!

All the hairs on his body stood on end, fear running down his spine.

"Watch out!" he shouted with all his might, while putting all his strength into his sword, desperately trying to push him away.

But it was in vain. This was no ordinary boss that he could hurt so easily. He was a level 10 boss.

He hadn't even managed to create his first connection crystal, so his current strength was very low. Forget about killing it, even moving it was too difficult, especially this guy wearing reinforced armor, it was almost like a tank!

He immediately tried to summon his beast again, but being so far away, the summoning took a while to take effect. He didn't have time.

The sword plunged into the throat of the fire-breathing zombie...

Just then.

[Your Fire Caterpillar has gained 20 Experience Points.]

The typical message came again, along with the previous ones.

At the same time, he saw how the sword destroyed the core. He instinctively wanted to close his eyes, but that third announcement revealed that it was his caterpillar that killed the zombie.

That it killed it later is another matter.

"Shit." He became deeply angry and swung his sword with the utmost skill. His movement was circular and precise: from above, then down, and back up again, creating an inverted arc that ended up hitting the wight of death in the face.

While his beast would not die decisively that way, it would take away its level and time!

Part of the hard work... would be lost.

Even worse, he would be left alone face-to-face with this boss.

Although he was more angry about the fact that someone had killed that little pet he was beginning to like, so his movement was powerful.

Even the wight of death did not expect it, and took several steps back when it received a powerful attack to its open nostrils.

Edward wanted to continue, so he took a firm step forward and prepared to attack continuously, with anger.

But something glinted on the body of the wight of death's sword, causing him to tense up.

The small caterpillar's body was on the sword... He thought it was dead, for real, as it had not returned to its body after being "destroyed."

But then he saw movement.

The sword was ablaze with fire, as always. But... the fire was disappearing!

'It's eating it!'

The scene looked a little funny. That tiny little body, barely a few inches long, with a huge mouth, was devouring the fire on the sword of a level 10 Wight of Death with greed and enthusiasm.

The weight on his heart lifted, but he knew that the caterpillar couldn't kill it on its own; weakening it was enough.

He continued his charge, but instead of attacking head-on, he took advantage of the moment of confusion among the Wight to run behind him and attack him powerfully in the neck.

BAM!

The initial impact reverberated in the Wight ears, causing them to close its eyes for a brief moment.

These Wight have a small problem. Their hearing is poor because their ears are closed. Therefore, any impact to the back of the neck that reverberates inside the body would stun them, due to the proximity to their ears and because the sound could not escape quickly.

However, this deficiency is compensated for by a powerful sense of smell. Therefore, it is difficult to escape from them. In addition to knowing precisely where someone is just by their smell.
