Chapter 9 - The Ultimatum

Chapter 9: The Ultimatum

The invitation sat on the sleek marble kitchen island, the digital screen of Joon's tablet glowing faintly in the dim morning light. Joon stared at it, the words Tokyo International Grand Prix feeling less like an opportunity and more like a ticking time bomb.

Before they could close the screen, a shadow fell over the counter. Si Jin stood there, fully dressed in a crisp black suit, a cup of espresso in his hand. His gaze dropped to the tablet, and his eyes instantly turned into slivers of ice.

Kim Si Jin: (Setting his cup down with a sharp clink) So, he wasted no time.

Joon Jimeya: (Quickly locking the screen) Si Jin, it's just an invitation. It's a prestigious platform. Any artist would dream of—

Kim Si Jin: (Walking around the island, cutting them off) Any artist isn't my artist, Joon. You know exactly what Hyung-suk is doing. This isn't about your art. He is using you to pull me into his territory.

Joon Jimeya: (Standing up, a spark of frustration defying their usual timid nature) And what about what I want? Is it always going to be about your war with him? What if I want to know if my art can survive on its own, without the name 'Kim Si Jin' attached to the canvas?

The room went completely still. Si Jin's Alpha aura flared instinctively, heavy and suffocating, but Joon didn't back down this time. Seeing their defiance, Si Jin's expression softened into something desperate, almost painful.

The Departure Gate

Three days later, the tension had reached a breaking point. No words were exchanged, but the silence spoke volumes. Joon stood at the private terminal of Charles de Gaulle Airport, a single suitcase by their side and a commercial ticket to Tokyo in their hand. They had refused Si Jin's private jet.

Just as the boarding announcement echoed through the speakers, the heavy glass doors of the terminal slid open. Si Jin walked in, flanked by his security detail, his coat fluttering behind him. The entire atmosphere of the airport shifted.

Joon Jimeya: (Heart pounding) Si Jin... please don't make a scene here.

Kim Si Jin: (Stopping just inches away, ignoring the whispers of the bystanders) I told you once before, Joon. I take what I want, and I keep what is mine. But I realize now... I cannot force a bird to stay if it wants to fly.

He reached out, his fingers brushing against the platinum cuff still resting on Joon's wrist.

Kim Si Jin: Go to Tokyo. Face Hyung-suk. Prove to yourself that you are a genius. But remember this...

He leaned down, his voice dropping to a husky whisper meant only for Joon's ears, his intoxicating scent wrapping around them one last time.

Kim Si Jin: The moment you realize his sky is too cold, my horizon is just a phone call away. I am giving you your freedom, Joon. Let's see if it brings you back to me.

Without waiting for an answer, Si Jin turned on his heel and walked away, leaving Joon standing at the gate, torn between the thrill of independence and the ache of leaving him behind.
