Chapter 20 - Sister-in-Law—You’re Really Doing This?

"Thank you so much, A-Yao."

Sister-in-law stood at the doorway, her gaze clinging to him, unmistakably reluctant to let him go.

"Could I trouble you to send a few trustworthy brothers over tomorrow? I'm really scared…"

"Sister-in-law, don't worry!"

Lin Yao answered immediately.

"I'll arrange four brothers right now. They'll stay here tonight and make sure you and your family are safe."

With that, he turned to leave.

That look in her eyes just now—

it was clearly an invitation to go inside…

That shared dopamine invitation was practically written all over her face.

Damn it.

Sister-in-law, are you seriously coming on to me?

Lin Yao cursed inwardly.

I still have to go home and feed Xiao Fuxing.

You old cow—whoever wants to serve you can go ahead!

"By the way, Sister-in-law,"

He didn't stop walking, nor did he turn his head as he added:

"I still have hall matters to handle tonight. Tomorrow I'll come by again to talk about the house."

"My number is XXX. If anything urgent happens, call me immediately."

"For safety, don't step outside the villa these next few days.

If you need to buy anything, I'll have the brothers do it for you."

By the time he finished speaking, he was already striding away, not giving her any chance to try and keep him.

After he got back,

Lin Yao spent the entire night directing the brothers to move into the new base.

With Fat Wah dead, the hall's territory—located near the Jiandong side of Kowloon Walled City—was officially his.

This stretch of road was unique, shaped like a "J," lined with rough-and-tumble youngsters.

It was a completely different world from inside the Walled City itself.

Wider streets.

More modern.

But the number of societies here was staggering.

All six major societies had halls here, not to mention countless smaller ones.

Every day there were disputes over territory—

crossing lines, stabbing incidents, violence like daily meals.

Even though Fat Wah's hall was only mid-tier within Wo Lian Sheng,

to someone like Lin Yao, who'd started with nothing—

this was an explosive rise.

From a lowly 49er to an enforcer, in less than a month.

Ask the heavens—who else climbed this fast?

Of course, eighty percent of it was luck.

As for Sister-in-law selling him the house at such a low price,

even encouraging him to use public funds—

Lin Yao judged it was half for protection, half because she fancied him.

Tsk.

The original owner really had worked as a madam before.

But was he, Lin Yao, some casual guy?

Cough.

If she were ten years younger, maybe…

Moving house was simple—just a few usable desks and the account books.

He didn't want any of the desks Fat Wah had used.

Bad luck.

After taking over the entire hall, the most important thing was the accounts.

The new base had a hidden room specifically for storing them.

Rows and rows of iron safes.

They'd previously been managed by Hungry Dragon.

After his death, Fat Wah moved them all here.

Now Fat Wah was dead too.

According to Lin Yao's guess, some of the books hadn't even been "processed" yet.

It was completely normal for society halls to keep shady accounts.

All the major societies in Hong Kong did.

If they didn't—that would be strange.

Lin Yao pulled out the account books from the past few months and flipped through them.

Instant headache.

The pages were packed tight, Hungry Dragon's handwriting messy as hell—

some entries even written in Cantonese characters.

As a northern guy, reading Cantonese was genuinely painful.

On top of that, the original owner wasn't educated at all.

His related memories were a total blank.

Forget it.

He'd deal with it tomorrow.

Lin Yao sighed, gave a few instructions to his men, then returned to the high-end apartment.

If Sister-in-law didn't try to play games,

he'd be living in a big house soon.

If she did try something—

then he was ready to flip the table.

Cement.

Iron barrels.

Dumping at sea.

Those keywords flashed through his mind.

Of course, if she cooperated, he wouldn't go that far.

On the way home, Lin Yao opened the system.

He discovered his points had jumped straight to 2000.

Looks like becoming an enforcer made the points skyrocket.

This broken system didn't even bother giving a voice prompt or a "ding."

Did the voice function break?

Having read thousands of web novels, Lin Yao knew other transmigrators never ran into this bug.

Yet he did…

When he got home,

Xiao Fuxing was still awake, wearing pajamas and reading a book.

Strange—shouldn't she be reading comics?

Her changes were happening fast.

In just a few days, the underworld aura of a former triad girl had faded a lot.

After spending more time together, Lin Yao realized she wasn't actually that enthusiastic about the jianghu life.

Joining the Number Gang had been mostly because of her boyfriend.

Thankfully, that bastard was long gone.

The old boss of that gang was a pretty boy; all his underlings had already scattered.

Basically a shell company.

"Brother Yao, you're back?

Did you eat dinner? Want me to make you something next time?"

Xiao Fuxing walked over, pulled slippers from the rack, and handed them to him.

"No need, I'm not hungry. Linlin, why are you still awake so late?"

Lin Yao asked while changing his shoes.

"If you're not back, I can't sleep…"

Xiao Fuxing muttered softly.

That tone had completely lost its old seductive edge.

Lin Yao felt genuinely pleased.

He really had struck gold.

She was a virgin—

in Hong Kong, especially with her background, that was rare.

"By the way, Brother Yao," she suddenly remembered something important,

"I heard your hall changed enforcers. Who is it?"

She pushed the book aside, leaned closer, eyes full of curiosity.

"You little thing—so obsessed with this stuff.

You know everything I do, yet you're always half a beat slow on your own matters."

Lin Yao shook his head helplessly, but there was no reproach in his voice.

"I'm behaving now," Xiao Fuxing hurried to explain, voice even softer, a little ingratiating.

"All I think about every day is washing clothes and cooking for you.

Pozi asked me out several times—I didn't go."

"You're just too busy. How could I keep prying into your business?"

"Guess," Lin Yao said casually, slipping off his jacket and turning toward the bathroom.

"Hey—just tell me already! How am I supposed to guess?"

Xiao Fuxing immediately jumped up and clung to him from behind.

Her arms wrapped around his waist.

She hung on him like a koala, cheek lightly rubbing his back.

Lin Yao didn't push her away—just let her cling.

He tilted his head slightly to look at her, eyes smiling, deliberately saying nothing.

"Who is it? Who is it?

Is it you? Will people reject you? Just say it already…"

She grew anxious, legs lightly hooking around his waist, chin resting on his shoulder, her tone full of aggrieved coaxing.

Seeing how flustered she was, Lin Yao finally couldn't help laughing.

"The new enforcer—who else could it be?"

"It's me."

Huh?!

The moment those words left his mouth, Xiao Fuxing froze—

still wrapped around his waist, legs locked tight.
