Chapter 25 - Roku Takashi

Roku Takashi, aside from me, he was the only demon inside Class Qi. His personality was that of a hot-headed delinquent. The type of guy who throws his fist without thinking about the consequences first.

Simply put, he was as dumb as a rock. His ability and his personality reminded me of that giant green monster in a comic book I usually read back on earth. Seriously, all he knew was violence, which is why he was one of the first demons to be caught.

He foolishly attacked Levi, which of course resulted in him getting swiftly beaten. This was how Levi found out he was a demon. But contrary to what you may think, Levi didn't turn him in to the school since he knew how demons were treated in society.

Instead, he decided to make friends with Roku. Levi believed that not all demons were bad, and Roku was his test subject in this theory. Levi kept an eye on him throughout his time at school, making sure he didn't hurt anyone. Soon, a friendship began to blossom between the two.

Levi's good nature caused Roku to begin trusting him. The hot headed delinquent and the naive young man who thought he could change the world. The two were quite a pairing.

Roku ended up having one of the biggest character developments in the game. He didn't lose his temper, but he wasn't as aggressive as he first was. He began smiling more and started to think of Levi like a brother. Even Mia had started liking Roku even though the two hardly got along.

As you would expect, Roku turned against the demon race, and Levi became more driven to prove that not all demons were bad, even as most called him a madman and a traitor, he didn't back down. He was stead fast in his belief and didn't just become a hero to humans but also to quite a few demons.

A better man would've seen this as inspirational and agreed with the message the story writers were trying to send.

But I was different. I preferred a black and white approach to storytelling.

I preferred demons that were undeniably evil with 0 redeeming qualities and a hero that mercilessly tries to wipe out the entire race.

Demons were suppose to be emotionless and calculating. Or at least savagely cruel, but instead we got demons who develop emotional connections to humans. That was the reason I thought the demons in this world were incompetent.

Looking at Roku, what went through my mind was how I could use him to cause the most suffering.

"Oi, four eyes. Are you hearing me?" Roku grabbed my collar and pulled me closer to him. I was a head taller than him, so he was forced to look up at me.

I calmly stared at him and adjusted my glasses.

"500 was it? I'll happily pay you if you let us go," I responded.

"Tch!"

Roku hissed his teeth and snickered something along the lines of 'coward' but with a few profanities mixed in.

He wanted the money, but he also wanted a good fight while he was at it.

Though giving away 500 zencoins would sting, I still waved my watch in front of his and made the transfer.

Seeing that the zencoins were transferred into his account, Roku no longer had any interest in us and walked away.

"Urg! Cough cough!"

Hearing the sound of what sounded like a dying animal, I turned my attention back to Oliver puking on the ground. His face had gone pale, and even though he was trying to hold himself back, I could see tears accumulating in his eyes.

It was as if it was his first time being punched.

At that moment, I couldn't help but think that the academy had a lot of work cut out for them if they were going to turn students like Oliver into heroes.

Nevertheless, I reached out and helped him up onto his feet.

"You don't look so good. I'll take you to the nurse," I said.

Oliver gave a faint nod, so I placed his arm over my shoulder and brought him to the nurse's office. On our way there, I managed to convince him not to tell the school what had happened. The reason I gave was that it would cause Roku to target us again since we were all in the same class.

The real reason was that I didn't want anything unexpected to happen to Roku since I had special plans for him. After dropping Oliver off at the nurse's office, it was time for my next class of the day.

This next class was actually an elective of different combat classes. There was a support class. This class was for people who planned on using their skills to support others during combat. For example, someone with a healing ability might join this class or someone with a skill that can weaken enemies.

The support class was actually the class suggested by the school that I should joined since I was registered with a transmutation ability. During the entrance exam, I had demonstrated my ability by turning a patch of dirt into a small puddle of quicksand.

Taking this in mind, I could see why they suggested I joined the support class but still, I had no intentions to do so.

There was also a skill training class, and as the name suggested, this class's main purpose was to help students better adapt to using their skill.

The next class was a Tactical battle and strategy class, which basically teaches how to plan attacks against large groups of demons or even just one powerful demon. It didn't only deal with strategies against demons but also beasts.

A weapon's class was also presented on the list of options. In this class, students would choose weapons and learn how to wield them. The students would train in combat with certain beast weapons of their choice. This was the most popular of all the elective classes, and it was also the class Levi and his admirers chose.

Levi was trained in swordsmanship since he was very young. Even his soul weapon would be a powerful sword. He was obsessed with training with a sword, so that was the reason why he had chosen the weapon's class.

Personally, I didn't have a preference for any form of weapon since I had never used one before, apart from the dagger I made. I'd be fine with whatever weapon my soul weapon turned out to be.

If I awaken a soul weapon, that is.

The final and least popular elective on the list of electives was martial arts, and coincidentally, this was the one I decided to choose. The martial arts in this world were the exact same as the ones in my old world.

The reason why I had chosen martial arts over the rest was because I thought it would work well with my demonic skill. I had already thought of several ways to integrate it.

Out of the entire first year, only me and two other students had chosen this elective since most saw martial arts as useless, especially when going up against beasts and demons who could take hideous forms.

But in my opinion, this elective was perfect for those of the demonic race since our bodies were different from humans; if used the right way, it could be deadly.

The school allowed us to register for whichever elective we chose via our watches.

[Would you like to register for the martial arts elective?] [Y/N]

[Please note that you can only unenroll within 1 week of enrolling]

Without the slightest bit of hesitation, I clicked the option marked yes on my watch.
