Chapter 317 - The Bloodline and the Gambler

On his very first day at the secret facility, the ICA demanded Hunter undergo a comprehensive physical examination.

He didn't refuse most of the tests. He allowed the technicians to measure his height, weight, wingspan, striking force, explosive acceleration, and lung capacity. He even permitted them to run full-body X-rays.

However, the moment they brought out a needle for a blood draw, he flatly refused.

It wasn't because his blood harbored any easily detectable anomalies. Hunter knew exactly what his body was.

Shortly after transmigrating into this world—around the time he traveled to Boston to help Dom Toretto smuggle a shipment of contraband—Hunter had realized his physical stats were rapidly eclipsing normal human limits. He had worried that if he ever bled at a crime scene, some government lab would flag him as a genetic mutant.

To preemptively assess the risk, Hunter had used a black-market ID to get a full blood workup at a private clinic in Boston.

The results came back showing he was in peak physical health, but there were absolutely no genetic anomalies.

As he continued completing contracts for the Continental, his physical attributes surged to three or four times that of an adult male. Feeling himself evolving into something superhuman, his paranoia returned. He used another forged identity to run a second, vastly more comprehensive screening at a top-tier private hospital in Los Angeles.

The results were identical. His bloodwork was immaculate and entirely normal.

It was then that Hunter confirmed his System didn't just upgrade his muscles—it actively masked his genetic profile. It altered him on a foundational level, ensuring his superhuman secrets could never be decoded by modern science.

He had even mailed a vial of his own blood to an elite commercial genetics lab under a pseudonym, asking them to screen for latent mutations. They found nothing.

Because of this, Hunter wasn't actually worried about the ICA discovering his System. He had a completely different reason for refusing the needle.

Hunter had noticed that his enhanced genetics were subtly influencing his lovers. Over time, the women who shared his bed experienced noticeable improvements in their skin, stamina, and overall vitality. He eventually planned to let them have his children to establish his own powerful bloodline.

But the ICA was a different story. He knew Diana's faction possessed salvaged Soviet black-tech. They were highly capable of human cloning.

Hunter had zero interest in providing his DNA just to watch the ICA mass-produce a legion of inferior, knockoff clones wearing his face. The very idea of cheap clone fodder dying on the battlefield under his likeness deeply disgusted him.

So, he made sure the ICA never got a single drop of his blood.

Diana's smile had turned incredibly strained at his refusal. This wasn't the first time he had effortlessly bypassed her medical traps. She had tried to sneak a blood draw several times over the past week, and he had sharply shut her down every single time.

The ICA brass was growing incredibly frustrated. However, Hunter's terrifying combat progression during the training camp forced them to swallow their pride. He was simply too valuable an asset to alienate.

Once the non-invasive checks were completed, Hunter took a shower and headed to the underground cafeteria.

Diana was already sitting at a stainless-steel table, waiting for him.

"Hunter, we cannot delay this any longer," she said, her voice tight with urgency.

She had lost her appetite entirely, watching Hunter ravenously tear into a massive cut of cafeteria steak. "The target is missing and presumed to be in grave danger. Every extra day we spend here drastically reduces his survival odds."

Hunter nodded, swallowing a large bite of meat.

"I originally only asked for a week to prepare," he replied smoothly. "I didn't expect to stay an extra seven days. I'm ready to move out whenever you are."

His System Inventory was fully loaded. Not only did he possess enough firepower to arm a small militia, but he had also secretly purchased and stored several months' worth of premium food and water.

Even if this legendary prison was buried on a deserted island at the edge of the world, Hunter wasn't the least bit worried about survival.

Hearing his absolute confidence, a genuine smile finally broke through Diana's tense expression.

"Good. Thank you, Hunter."

Her attitude toward him had shifted dramatically over the past two weeks. Ever since he arrived at the base, she had started using his first name, actively trying to build a genuine, personal rapport.

"I'll go authorize the transport," she said, standing up from the table.

Just as she turned to leave, she paused, as if remembering a crucial detail.

"One last thing. I almost forgot to brief you on your cover identity."

Diana looked down at him. "To ensure you bypass their initial screening, we are sending you in as a master-class gambler. According to your fabricated dossier, you swindled a vicious casino magnate out of tens of millions of dollars."

"Out of sheer spite, the magnate paid exorbitant fees to have you locked inside this specific black-site facility. His explicit instructions to the wardens are to torture you daily, but keep you alive to suffer."

Hunter raised an eyebrow, staring at the beautiful, icy handler.

He didn't argue. He simply gave a curt nod. "Understood."

It didn't matter what his cover story was, or how many guards planned to torture him. The moment he stepped inside that fortress, he was going to pull an arsenal from thin air and turn the entire prison upside down.
