Chapter 39 - Chapter 39: All Those Wall-Smashes Were for Nothing!

Tianna had noticed something different about Luke.

She was a woman with sharp instincts, and most of the time, she trusted them.

And this time, her instincts told her again—Luke wasn't ordinary.

Tianna had a subordinate named Lev, the current commander of the Dauntless Vanguard.

Back when Tianna herself had been the commander of the Dauntless Vanguard, Lev had been a complete nobody. His dream was simply to be a common soldier until retirement.

Yes—despite possessing tremendous strength, he only wanted to be a regular footman.

Until one day, on the battlefield, Tianna accidentally discovered Lev's outstanding performance.

If she hadn't noticed him then, she would've missed a promising talent right under her nose.

As for what came after… whether Lev wanted it or not, his rank kept climbing.

Now he'd risen all the way to commander of the Dauntless Vanguard.

And right now, Luke gave her the same feeling.

Curious—and genuinely amused—Tianna looked forward to seeing what Luke would do over the next year.

"Achoo!"

Walking down the corridor, Luke suddenly sneezed.

He rubbed his nose and glanced back suspiciously. "Was Roy that old man meddling again?"

After thinking about it, he decided not to bother arguing with Roy.

Roy meant well. He was just old and loved worrying about everything.

Luke only wanted to live the laid-back life: eat until full, sleep, wake up and eat again. Wasn't that comfortable?

Why would he go suffer for no reason?

Besides, so many generations of royals had planted so many trees—wasn't it enough for little Luke to enjoy the shade?

With his hands clasped behind his back, Luke walked with an oddly "world-weary elder" vibe, and happened to run into Miss Crownguard coming the other way.

Lux wore a pale, light-colored outfit that made her look bright and fresh. But right now, on that soft, fair face of hers were two very obvious red marks.

One on her forehead.

One on the tip of her nose.

Luke took one look and chuckled. "Miss Crownguard, you're really good at makeup. Very… distinctive."

"Hmph. I don't feel like talking to you!" Getting teased the second they met, Lux shot him an angry look and walked right past him.

She knew this place better than Luke did.

Lux had only been there a short while when Kahina arrived too.

She was also dressed casually—nothing extravagant—but pretty girls looked good in anything.

As soon as she reached them, Kahina's eyes locked onto Lux, and then—

"Pfft."

The moment she saw Lux's innocent face and those two bright red marks, she completely lost it.

Just looking at it, she could imagine last night's Lux—blindfolded—smacking into walls over and over.

A full-on iron-headed menace.

Good thing Kahina had only tried once at home, failed, and immediately gave up.

Luke had already finished laughing, but when Kahina laughed too, he couldn't hold it in.

He laughed so much his conscience started to sting a little.

Was it really okay for him to deceive such a pure, innocent girl like this?

…Yeah. Very okay.

"Stop laughing!" Lux snapped, mortified and furious. She slapped the table and glared at Luke. "I'm seriously starting to think your 'tutorial' is wrong! You can't train a sixth sense like this!"

"High-level techniques only succeed through repeated practice. Who masters something on the first day?" Luke said with grave, heartfelt sincerity.

"Lux." Kahina could see it now—this guy probably spent his days entertaining himself by teasing Lux.

And Lux, with her straightforward little brain, had no chance against him.

For her best friend's sake, Kahina had to step in. "I think… next time His Highness gives you a method or advice, you should make him demonstrate it first."

Even yesterday, when she first heard this "method," she'd felt it was unreliable.

Who could walk around blindfolded without relying on anything?

Let alone in a place with lots of obstacles.

Only Lux would hear it and believe it.

And with an already-not-too-clever head, she'd now slammed it into walls that many times—

"Yeah…" Lux froze.

Why hadn't she thought of that last night?

Wait—

So all those times she hit the wall… were for nothing?!

Realizing it, Miss Crownguard got even angrier. She slapped the table again, staring at Luke with a dangerous expression.

"Don't look at me like that. You're scaring me," Luke said, sitting across from her, feeling his skin prickle under those big eyes.

The next second, Lux pulled a handkerchief out of her pocket, smiling with clear ill intent. "Your Highness, since this is your method, it's not too much to ask you to demonstrate it, right?"

"Actually, I read this in a book—"

"That's not important. Isn't Your Highness a special awakened sixth-sense user?" Lux cut him off and handed him the cloth, smiling sweetly. "Let me see it for myself, okay?"

A smile like that was usually impossible for men to refuse.

But only Luke could feel the cold behind it.

Looks like Miss Crownguard was absolutely determined to see him smash into a wall today.

And with Kahina on her side too—she looked a bit smarter, but still far too green.

"Fine." Luke sighed, closing his eyes. "If you insist, I'll demonstrate. Go ahead and tie it."

Very quickly, he caught a faint scent—probably coming from Miss Crownguard.

She stood behind him, wrapping the cloth around his eyes, loop after loop.

"Done checking? Don't say I cheated later," Luke asked as he stood up.

"No problem."

"Start."

Each girl answered once. They were certain Luke couldn't see anything at all.

"Then let's set a route. From here to the statue in the center of the back garden—there and back."

Everything around Luke was pitch black, but he wasn't panicking in the slightest.

After drinking the sixth-sense enhancement potion, his perception now felt like he'd turned on x-ray vision.

That had been confirmed through repeated tests afterward.

Right now, his sixth-sense reactions weren't any worse than that movie scene where Spider-Man fights Mysterio.

In other words—just follow the feeling and you're good.

"Okay."

Seeing how confidently he said it, the two girls suddenly felt a little less sure.

Soon, they saw Luke start moving.

Even with his vision blocked, he walked at a normal speed, smoothly sidestepping the sofa and heading toward the door.

For the first part, you could still manage it with memory and basic awareness—that was what they told themselves as they followed behind.

From here to the statue in the center of the back garden was about two hundred meters, and there were plenty of obstacles along the way.

As time passed, the two girls went from disbelief, to wavering, to outright shock.

"How is this possible…" Kahina was stunned. She couldn't help running ahead to check whether Luke was cheating.

He wasn't.

Kahina didn't doubt that a sixth sense could exist—but she never imagined Luke's perception could be this strong.

Lux was completely transfixed. Remembering how she'd slammed into walls again and again last night, the spark that had died inside her suddenly reignited.
