Chapter 56 - Chapter 56

Prophecies and Burdens

Xiao Yan awoke on the cliff, the echoes of his dream clinging to him like a cold mist. His chest heaved, heart pounding as though it were trying to escape his body. Water from the river lapped at his hands as he tried to steady himself, trembling from the weight of revelation.

"HaoNan!" he called, voice rough with grief.

She appeared almost instantly, her expression calm but shadowed with concern.

"Young Master, you've regained your memories," she said gently.

"I… I'm sorry," Xiao Yan replied, the words barely a whisper, laden with sorrow.

HaoNan knelt beside him, her gaze steady. "The Lord foresaw this. Do not blame yourself. It was meant to happen—for his sake."

"Why… why didn't he tell me?" Xiao Yan asked, voice breaking, the weight of destiny pressing down like mountains.

"There was a prophecy," HaoNan explained, her tone soft yet firm. "He was destined to die by your hands. That is why he allowed it to happen while you knew not. The threads of fate are not easily untangled."

Xiao Yan's hands clenched the river's edge. "Father… I've failed you," he whispered, the words slipping into the cold water with his tears.

HaoNan's voice did not waver. "You must continue your journey. Defeat the evil god. Restore peace to the universe. That is your burden now."

"I'm not your young master anymore," he said, exhaustion thick in his tone, his eyes hollow from grief.

"Young Master!" she called, reaching out, but he shook his head.

"I cannot continue like this," he said finally, releasing her hand.

Without another word, Xiao Yan turned away from the river, the rising sun painting the horizon in muted gold. Each step he took carried both sorrow and determination, carrying the weight of prophecy and the burden of his father's fate.

He disappeared into the distance, leaving the quiet river and HaoNan behind, ready to face whatever darkness awaited him next.

Departure and Loneliness

The morning light filtered weakly through the window, gentle and indifferent to the storm raging within Mi-An's heart. She awoke to emptiness—Xiao Yan was gone.

A folded note lay on the table, delicate but heavy with finality:

"I'm sorry for leaving you behind. I can't continue living with this guilt. Don't look for me. Live on, my dear Mi-An."

Her chest constricted as if the words themselves had struck her heart. She stumbled from the room, hope and despair colliding in her chest, until she collided with LuQi.

"What's wrong?" he asked, steady and calm, though his eyes flickered with concern.

"Xiao Yan… he's gone," she whispered, tears spilling freely before she collapsed into his arms. The warmth of his embrace did little to soothe the ache that threatened to swallow her whole.

Far beyond the Sect, in the vast emptiness of the void, devils and demons assembled, a shadowy army poised for war. At their center, Nem stood tall, flanked by the sinister presence of the Evil God. Power radiated from them, cold and absolute, as if the universe itself trembled before their coming.

Elsewhere, by a silent river in a quiet void, Xiao Yan knelt alone. The ripples mirrored the chaos in his heart, yet not a sound disturbed the stillness.

"Father… I'm sorry," he whispered, voice trembling, carrying the weight of prophecy, guilt, and loss into the empty expanse.

The world seemed suspended, holding its breath. A story of betrayal, prophecy, love, and sorrow lingered in the silence—its ending unwritten, awaiting the next chapter of destiny yet to unfold.

The river flowed quietly, as if even time itself respected the pause before the storm.
