Chapter 6 - 2. Esha

Author's POV

"Eshu, jaldi uth, it's already 7:00.", screamed Komal, Esha's mother, from the kitchen. She barged into the room and found her still sleeping.

("Eshu, wake up quickly, it's already 7:00.")

"Eshu, der ho jayegi tujhe. Wake up", Komal said, tapping her cheek.

("Eshu, you will be late. Wake up.")

"Mumma, thodi der aur sone do na, mujhe neend aa rahi hai", Esha said, pulling the duvet up to her head.

("Mumma, let me sleep for some more time, na, I am sleepy.")

"Theek hai soja, par jab der ho jayega, tab samajh aayega tujhe.", her mother screamed at the top of her lungs.

("Ok, sleep. When you get late, then you will understand.")

After many efforts by her mother, Esha gave up; she got out of her bed.

"Good morning, Mumma", she said after she took a sigh.

"Good morning, ab jaldi uth ke tayar hoja."

("Good morning, now get up and get ready.")

Esha took a bath and came back to her room wearing a red Anarkali dress. She came and sat on the dressing table. She wore bangles and earrings. She was not a fan of makeup; she applied a little bit of powder, eyeliner, and lip gloss. She looked out of the window and saw that it was lightly drizzling. She came out of her room and went downstairs.

She came down and gave her father a side-hug. He smiled and kept his hand on her head. Peace. It was her daily habit before she went to the academy.

"Mumma, mein jaa rahi hu, sham ko milenge." She said that when she was getting out of the house.

("Mumma, I am going out. We will meet in the evening.")

"Ruk, kaha jaa rahi hai. Nasta toh karti ja"

("Wait, where are you going. At least have your breakfast.")

"Nahi mumma, agar mein ab nasta karugi toh pakka der ho jaungi.'', She said hurriedly, wearing her jhutis.

("No mumma, if I have my breakfast now, then definitely, I will get late.")

"Ruk, yeh le tera lunch aur breakfast dono pack kar diya hai, sambhal ke jana," her mother told her, coming out of the house with the tiffin in her hand.

("Wait, I have packed your breakfast and lunch. Go carefully.")

"Haan, mumma, ab mein chalti hu."

("Ok, mumma, now I will go.")

"Baarish gir rahi hai, agar mein matt ja bolungi toh tu kaha sunegi", her mother taunted her.

("It is raining. If I tell you not to go, where will you listen?")

"Sambhal ke jaa aur ghar jaldi aane ki koshish kar kyuki kise pata yeh baarish kab bad jaye."

("Go carefully and try to come home fast because who knows when the rain gets heavy.")

"Ok mumma, mein try karungi." She went towards her car and drove to the dance academy.

("Ok, mumma, I will try.")

She entered the academy and lit the diya kept before the Nataraja statue. She sat and had her breakfast quickly. It was 8:30 when her students began to come.

"Guys, we will start a new song." Everyone nodded.

"I'll first show you dance, and then we will start our practice."

She wore her ghungroo and played the music.(Play the above song.)

o re piya haaye, o re piya

o re piya haaye, o re piya

o re piya haaye, o re piya

She kept her hands on the sides of her waist and took graceful steps, moving forward, backward, or sideways.

udne laga kyun, man baawla re

aaya kahaan se, ye hosla re

o re piya, o re piya haaye

She moved her hands up and down consecutively. She did two twirls in the middle and placed her hands above her head in a mudra.

taanaabaana taanaabaana bunti hawaa

haaye bunti hawaa

boonde bhi to aaye nahi, baaz yaha haaye

She intertwined her fingers and waved her palms in front of her face, along with the side movements of her legs.

sagish mein shaamil, saara jahaan hai

har zarrein zarrein ki, ye iltiza hai

o re piya, o re piya haaye

o re piya haaye, o re piya

She synced with the lyrics while singing the song with ease.

nazrein bole, duniya tole

dil ki zaban haaye, dil ki zubaan

ishq maange, ishq chaahe koi toofaan haaye

She put her hands in front of her face and did certain mudras. Then, she put her hands near her heart and danced expressively.

chalna aahiste, ishq naya hai

pehla yeh vaada, humne kiya hai

o re piya haaye, o re piya haaye, o re piya

piyaaaaa ye piyaaaa

She took two steps forward elegantly and then broke her knuckles near her head as if she were taking off the evil eye. She ended the song with slight footwork.

Esha's POV

It was 1 pm, and we all took a lunch break. I was still eating when I felt someone's hand on my shoulder. When I turned, I saw Neha, my best friend, behind me. I got up and hugged her. It has been many days since I met her. It was the month's end, and she was busy with her work.

"Kaisi hai tu? Tujhe itni dinno ke baad dekh kar itna accha lag raha hai. Kaise hai aunty aur uncle?" she told, excited.

("How are you? It feels so good to see you after so many days. How are Uncle and Aunty?")

"Mein theek hu. Mummy aur Papa bhi theek hai. Aur bata tu kaisi hai ?"

("I am good. Mummy Papa bhi theek hai. And how are you?")

Neha smiled and nodded.

"Tu aaj office nahi gayi?" Esha asked after thinking for a moment.

("You didn't go to office today.")

"Nahi yaar, mein me kal hi pura kaam khatam kar liye tha. Aaj subah baarish gir rahi thi isliye work from home kiya. Mein bas yahan se guzar rahi thi toh socha tujhse milti jao."

("No yaar, I had completed all the work yesterday. It was raining this morning, so I thought to work from home. I was just passing by, so I thought of meeting you.")

"Theek kiya tune."

("Nice thing you did.")

I finished my lunch. Then, we both spent almost half an hour talking and gossiping about things. After half an hour, Neha left, and I resumed the practice.

Author's POV

It was 6:00 in the evening. Esha was still teaching some dance moves. After 4-5 minutes, she looked at the clock.

"Ok, guys, time is up. We will continue our practice tomorrow."

Everyone took their leave. Esha reached the parking area, unlocked her car, and drove back to her home.

She came home and saw that her father was watching the news. She sat on the couch beside her father for some time.

"Tired?" her father asked her to look towards her.

"A little", she responded and sat there for some time. After some time, she headed towards her room.

She got freshened up and came to the dining room. She went to the kitchen and helped her mother prepare dinner. When the food was done, she called her father and brother to have dinner.

"Dekhu aaj kya bana hai dinner mein", said Abhinav, her brother, who was full excited to have his dinner.

("Let's see what has been made for dinner today.")

He opened the lid of the bowl, and his face fell.

"Tinde ki sabzi, mein nahi kha raha dinner. Thodi der baad Maggi khake so jaunga.", he said, leaving the dining table.

("Ridge guard, I am not having dinner. After some time, I'll have Maggi and sleep.")

"Agar tu ab nahi khayega toh tujhe dinner nahi milega, and I will throw away all the Maggi packets," Komal said with a little angry tone.

("If you don't eat now, then you won't get dinner, and I will throw away all the Maggi packets.")

Abhinav sat back on his seat with a sour face. He knew that she would throw away all the Maggi packets for sure, as it happened last time. Thinking, he forcefully had his dinner. All of them silently had their dinner.

When they were done with their dinner, Esha and Komal cleaned the dining table. After it was done, they departed to their rooms.

Esha came back to her room. She lay down on the bed. Within a few minutes, tiredness overcame her, and she fell asleep.
