Chapter 29 - Chapter 29: Over the Rainbow

[3rd POV]

The enjoyable day at the magic shop had come to an end, as Billie had headed home later on after having lunch with the Dunphys. The lunch was just another simple one, and included her helping out with it.

By the time she had gotten home, it was time to work more on her album. She had already finished the general layout of it, and how she wanted the music videos to be shot. But getting the necessary spaces to film them was a pain in the ass.

They were being damn stingy with film equipment, and the places she wanted to film them at were not cheap. And sure, her investments would make that back in a few days, but she still felt her wallet hurt when she put millions into production.

Which is why she was now thinking of other things she can do. A cheaper alternative that might give it a bit more...realism. Something more...personal.

And when she thought of that, she had a couple of ideas in mind. But one of them stuck out to her more than anything else. The place where she was already planning on eventually visiting in the coming months thanks to it's connection to music and art in general.

The same place that Victorious took place, and where Victoria "Tori" Vega was likely out there pursuing her dreams as seen in the show. She was older than all the characters in the show (at least the students) as far as she knew, so the idea of going there could be fun.

Might be something that Haley could enjoy. It would be far more helpful for her than Billie, thanks to her music being more in tune with what they did there. The songs of Sia would fit in there pretty well. Either way, Billie wanted to head there soon.

Right now she was in her living room, it was the next day and she was humming softly, humming some of the songs from 21, currently she was softly summing "Set Fire to the Rain", one of her personal favorites.

All the while, she was writing the lyrics out onto paper, while remembering her creation process for Ocean Eyes from around 2 years ago.

[Flashback]

Sitting in the living room of her first apartment, a much smaller one than what she had in the future, but more than comfortable enough for the current her.

And currently...she was practicing.

"Ah, ah" Her voice softly echoed.

"Ah, ah"

"Ah, ah, mmm" Billie softly sang, almost like she was humming. This was the start of Ocean Eyes.

"I've been watchin' you, for some time~"

"Can't stop starin' at those Ocean Eyes~"

"Burning Cities and napalm skies" Her voice echoed through the room, as she sang into a small makeshift recording spot. It wasn't the best, but it was a start.

As her breathy voice continued to ripple throughout the room of her apartment.

"Fifteen flares inside those Ocean Eyes" She swayed softly side to side as she sang.

"Your Ocean Eyes" She finished, as she let out a sigh.

This was like the 15th time she had practiced the first part of her song. It wasn't particularly hard or anything, but she wanted it to be absolutely perfect, in every way.

She wanted to not just capture the magic of the Billie of her past life, but to also make it even better, more perfect, more...beautiful. She wanted to not just touch the hearts of those listening, but for them to be absorbed by her song.

Like her grandmother had.

The woman had always been...immensely supportive of her dream. She had gone out of her way to help her practice, buying her books and equipment that helped her hone her craft so that it was the best it could be.

And thanks to that same woman, she was now sitting here practicing her debut song.

Hopefully the song would do that for her.

Glancing to the side, she stopped. She had two different sheets of lyrics, one for Ocean Eyes...and the other was the one that she had sung only to her grandmother.

She sang it to her on her deathbed.

Billie looked at it before sighing and moving it to the side.

She couldn't afford to be distracted now.

[Flashback End]

Remembering that time, Billie stopped humming as she got up and walked over to a bookshelf. On it were pictures of her and her grandmother. And behind those pictures was a single dusty sheet.

Reaching up she grabbed it, before returning to the seat, as she stared down at the lyric sheet.

And the words that were upon it.

"For my Grandmama! Love you!" With the word Billie next to it.

Biting her lip, Billie opened it, as she decided that she had a different song she needed to make, as she glanced over at the date.

3 days until the anniversary of her grandmother's death.

And so, she breathed out and began to sing softly.

[3 Days later]

Three days later, Haley was quietly scrolling on YouTube. She hadn't seen Billie in a few days, and she wasn't entirely sure why. She was worried that something had happened, before stopping when she saw a text from Alex.

"Did you see this?" The text read, with a link.

Raising an eyebrow, Haley tapped it, only for her eyes to widen as it lead to Billie's YouTube channel. Not only that, but Billie was sitting upon a stool in the video, a ukulele in her hand.

"Okay...this songs for you, Grandmama" Billie's voice echoed in the video, as Haley sat up, her eyes widening as she heard Billie begin to play the ukulele.

"Ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh-ooh-ooh" She softly sang, as Haley leaned forwards. She wasn't the only one, as Billie fans all over the world listened in rapt attention.

"Somewhere over the rainbow~" Billie sang, as Haley breathed out.

"Way up high"

"And the dreams that you dreamed of"

"Once in a lullaby"

"Oh, somewhere over the rainbow"

"Bluebirds fly"

"And the dreams that you dreamed of"

"Dreams really do come true, hoo, hoo, ooh-ooh-ooh"

"Oh Billie..." Haley whispered, tears beginning to build up in her eyes, as Billie sang more and more.

Similar reactions were happening all over the world, as realization hit a lot of people.

This was a song dedicated to her grandmother.

"Someday I'll wish upon a star"

"Wake up where the clouds are far behind me"

"Where trouble melts like lemon drops"

"High above the chimney tops, that's where you'll find me, oh"

"Somewhere over the rainbow bluebirds fly"

"And the dream that you dare to, oh, why, oh, why can't I, I?"

In Cam and Mitchell's home, the two sat listening to the music, tears welling up in their eyes as they listened. Their hearts breaking the more they listened, and the more they understood why this song was being sung.

"Oh, someday, I'll wish upon a star"

"Wake up where the clouds are far behind me"

"Where trouble melts like-a lemon drops"

"High above the chimney top, that's where you'll find me"

"Oh, somewhere over the rainbow way up high"

"And the dream that you dare to, why, oh, why can't I, I?"

Not even Jay and Gloria were spared from seeing the song, as the man was full blown sobbing as he heard it, with Gloria softly patting the big "Babies" back as he leaned against her, her own eyes welling with tears.

And slowly, the song began to end as it began, as the screen began to fade to black, with only the words.

"Rest in Piece Grandmama" And then the year she was born to the year of her passing next to it.

And in the apartment of the one that had sung the song, the girl sat, tears softly streaking as she looked through the pictures that her grandmother had amassed over the years.

And during it all, she had only one thought on her mind...

'...I miss you grandma'

That's the end of the chapter!

No idea how well this was made, but I wanted to show a bit more of Billie's thoughts and feelings in regards to her grandmother. I'll be showing more of their interactions in flashbacks and such.

I chose Over the Rainbow as it was...well, personal to me. It was the song played at my own grandmother's funeral, so I decided it fit. I hope it actually did.

Anyways, have a good day!
