Chapter 5 - Stranger, Lover

With each time that passed by Jamie and Hazel's relationship faded away more quickly. What used to be sexual tension turned into mere kisses and now they hardly talk to each other. Jamie on the other hand was building a bond with Paige without the pair even talking. They only exchanged pleasantries and stole glances at each other. They haven't talked to each other since the kiss which the whole school suddenly knew about. Marie did a great job spreading the gospel by featuring it on the front page of the student papers, as the new gossip. Paige didn't see it since she hadn't started working with her. Weeks passed with everything being forgotten but not the one time romance. Paige remembered the smell of sweat and warmth of a well built body whenever she saw him. Jamie on the other hand remembered the smell of a nice cologne and soft black hair. He remembered the soft smooth and sweet lips of Paige and how they gently caressed his with passion. Most people were not surprised when he won the student body president while running alone. He had won but still needed a vice. He was in search for a bright young lady after refusing Hazel's help. She was angry about it but she couldn't do anything since it wasn't her decision to make. He was surprised to meet Paige in Ms Hull's office when she called him.

"Hi! Jamie I heard you were looking for a vice and Ms Bennett here was the president at her previous school so I asked her to assist you for a while, at least till you find someone" she explained.

It wasn't what he expected but it was really nice having someone experienced helping him. He was eager to accept since it meant he would be spending more time with her.

"Ok, I mean I can't say no if you are concerned so we will get right at it. Thank you Ms Hull" he said as they exited the office.

"Hey I want you to know that I'm sorry about the other day. I wasn't thinking straight" she apologized.

"No need, I'm okay, it seems we were all not thinking straight" he assured her with a smile. They stopped together in the hallway where most of the students were gathered. He clapped to get their attention. Paige didn't know what was going on but she knew she had to play along.

"I have an announcement to make" he said. "Are you two finally getting married?" Leon shouted from the back, making everyone laugh.

"As much as it would please you and I to marry such a lovely lady we are not" he said with a smile as Hazel stared in despise. "That's too bad, I was looking forward to attending your wedding" Cyrus said as the crowd continued to laugh.

"This has nothing to do with marriage guys. I want to formally notify you that, Paige Bennett is my acting vice so if you need anything from me you can also direct it to her, thank you" he explained.

They all clapped except Hazel and her friends. She couldn't believe her own brother turned her down and accepted a total stranger. She quickly left with her friends following. She felt stabbed in the back and wanted revenge. Paige went straight to Marie after everyone had left.

"I need to know everything about Jeremy Vernon" she said anxiously.

"Yes you do, if you are going to work with him you need to know everything and I'm quite the person who knows everything about everyone in this school" she said with a smile as they walked to their office and sat down.

She was ready to know more about the simple male beauty she was going to work with and the only person who could share such vital information about him was seated in front of her.

"First of all you have to know his family is very rich. They own a dinner, a school, a club which is ran on Fridays by hazel for students only. You should come. They also have a gym where he usually hangs out on weekends to teach some kids boxing. He is always with the Wolves except on Saturday evenings where he spends some alone time along the river. If you want to have fun with him that will be your best position. He has his own poolside which Hazel mostly takes advantage of for her parties. Apart from all that he is what you already know, sweet and charming towards those he loves".

It was a great relief for Paige since she didn't mention anything shady about him. Perhaps he was what everyone knew she thought to herself.

"You must be very lucky working with him and I will advise you to take full advantage of your moments together while it lasts" Marie said with a hint of mischief clear in her eyes.

There was a lot of noise as the Wolves dressed after practice. Hazel was in their room with Sophie and Patricia, in search of Jamie. He knew very well that it was because of Paige and she couldn't attack him in the house because he normally goes late and she doesn't see him. This was her perfect time to make him look bad in front of his friends. "How could you do that to me, your own sister? You accepted that nobody over me, who does that to their family?" she said trying to force a tear out from her eyes.

All the guys felt sorry for her for a moment before Jamie interrupted their decision of mental criticism.

"I wouldn't do that to you, I didn't want people to think I'm running the school on family basis, besides it was Ms Hull's idea that she assists me till I find a new person to take the place, it's nothing permanent" they were now fully away of the situation and felt bad for judging him.

"Well, you can just choose me and tell her you have decided then that will be fair" she said still faking her tears.

"I think I need to know more about how these things before I decide on what to do, she was president at her previous school and I think she will really help me so I will stick with her for now" he explained and the rest nodded in agreement.

She couldn't believe what she was hearing then exited with her friends while Jamie followed. He stopped her and her friends excused them, "So you think attacking me in front of my friends would change anything, well it didn't" he said in disgust.

"This isn't over Jeremy Vernon, keep that in your thick skull, accidents do happen and it would be too bad if she was involved in one" she said.

"Are you threatening me?" he was surprised she was saying that.

"No brother, just take it as a chance to rethink your decision" she said planting a kiss on his cheek.

Hazel could be very dangerous but he wasn't going to make her threats push him around. He walked with Paige later in the evening to their office. Neither of them uttering a word till they got inside.

"Is this your office?" she asked surprised when she saw how much space was being given to him. The doors were tinted to enhance his privacy when he is inside.

"No, it is our office" he said ushering her in.

"I want us to redecorate it in our own style" he added still standing behind her as she walked through the empty room.

"Okay you will have my ideas by Monday" she assured him.

"Thank you for letting me help you" she added.

"I am the one privileged to have you helping me" he smiled.

"I see what they said about your humility is true. What else is true about you?" She asked walking towards him.

"That will depend on what you have heard so far" she was right in front of him before he could end his sentence.

At that moment of intense emotions radiating between them, they were saved by the horn from Paige's driver to alert her it was time for her to go home. She walked back to him after reaching the door and took out a pen from her purse. She gently rolled up his sleeves and wrote her phone number on his arm and covered it planting a kiss on his arm.

"Call me" she said then left. He couldn't help but smile.

This girl was flirting with him and he was playing along. He didn't know why but he was entangled in her mischief and he wasn't making any effort to break free. He wasn't thinking about anything else as he stared at his arm with a smile.
