CONFIDENTIAL EXPEDITION LOG
Classification: Black-Level Artifact
Subject: Acquisition of Relic — Murasame
Associated Technique: Ittou Shura
Location: Unregistered City, Dark Continent Inner Zone
Date: Pre–Human Continent Reintegration Era
Compiled by: Joint Expedition Record Committee
Primary Witnesses:
° Isaac Netero (Chairman, Hunter
Association)
° Zigg Zoldyck
° Linne Horsdoeuvre
° Surviving V5 Recon Operatives (Names Redacted)
DECISION TO RETRIEVE
Following the V5 recon team casualty event, consensus was reached among surviving expedition leaders that leaving Murasame in situ constituted an unacceptable risk.
Primary concerns included:
1. Repeated future discovery by unqualified parties
2. Escalating city-wide Nen backlash upon further contact
3. Potential spontaneous activation if exposed to sufficient aura densit
Despite unanimous acknowledgment that the artifact should not exist within human jurisdiction, Chairman Netero formally stated:
"If we abandon it, someone worse will claim it. History already tried to erase this blade once."
Retrieval was authorized under Extreme Risk Clause Zero.
APPROACH AND SELECTION EVEN
The retrieval team consisted of four individuals only.
All others were ordered to remain beyond the plaza perimeter.
No individual was assigned to draw the blade.
The blade was to choose.
As the team entered the plaza, Nen readings shifted immediately:
° Hostile pressure: Absent
° Emotional resonance: Solemn, evaluative
° Aura density around the blade:
Compressed to near-null
Witness accounts report that the city's lingering wills withdrew—not in opposition, but in anticipation.
Murasame stood embedded as before. The engraved tally marks along its spine were observed again.
Count at time of retrieval:
not one as previously seen, but three
notches, one clear mark and two barely visible above, closer to the hilt
No historical record exists explaining the number.
ACCEPTANCE
The individual who ultimately drew the blade is listed in this document as:
Bearer Zero
(Identity sealed at Chairman Netero's
request)
Witnesses report the following phenomena at the moment of contact:
° The plaza's reflective surface fractured
without cracking
° All ambient Nen dropped to near zero
° The weight of presence inverted—from oppressive to protective
Bearer Zero did not hesitate.
Nen analysts describe the moment as:
"An unconditional internal vow was
completed before conscious thought."
Murasame was drawn cleanly.
No backlash occurred.
The city did not riot.
Instead, the ruins emitted a final surge of Nen—interpreted unanimously as acknowledgment.
Upon removal of the blade, the plaza's mirror surface dulled permanently.
The city was declared deceased.
POST-RETRIEVAL EFFECTS
Immediately after acquisition:
° All lingering wills dissipated
° The mural chambers collapsed
° Portal structures lost all Nen activity
° Dimensional distortions ceased entirely
Murasame exhibited the following properties: No detectable malice
° No autonomous movement
° Nen emission limited to the bearer alone
° Engraved tally marks unchanged
Attempts to examine the blade directly caused:
° Severe migraines
° Aura destabilization In one case,
° temporary loss of self-identity
Direct study was suspended.
JOURNEY BACK — ANOMALOUS EVENTS
The return journey was marked by persistent irregularities.
Documented incidents include:
° Nen interference
° causing navigational tools to fail
° Predatory Dark Continent lifeforms actively
avoiding the bearer
° Environmental hazards diverting rather
than obstructing the group
Several members reported dreams of:
° A hand reaching through a void
° A blade cutting something that should not
be cut
° A counting sound, slow and deliberate
The bearer did not dream.
The bearer did not sleep.
HUMAN CONTINENT RE-ENTRY
Upon nearing the Human Continent boundary,
Murasame reacted for the first time since retrieval.
Nen pressure localized entirely around the blade.
The bearer reported a single sensation:
"It does not belong here."
No hostile reaction occurred.
However, upon re-entry:
° All aura detection equipment
malfunctioned
° The engraved tally marks briefly emitted
Nen
° One observer instinctively understood their
meaning without explanation
Each mark represents a prior invocation of
Ittou Shura.
No record exists of when, where, or against whom.
CONTAINMENT DECISION
Final resolution was passed unanimously:
° Murasame is not to be wielded
° Ittou Shura is not to be studied
° The bearer is to remain alive at all costs
Chairman Netero's closing remark was recorded verbatim:
"This blade is not humanity's weapon. It is
humanity's apology."
STATUS
