Nyssa
"Come cut your cake Zoya," I called out to my five years old daughter for the umpteenth time. She had been going to the door since the break of dawn, hoping that somehow her father would miraculously appear.
"Just a minute mom," Her angelic voice replied, her eyes fixed on the door. "Dad said he'd come. I can't cut the cake with him."
"Alright," I nodded as I went towards her. "Let's wait for your daddy," I agreed, wishing and hoping that Louis would keep his word to our daughter this time. She had high expectations of him.
Though I know that my might remain unfulfilled. After all, I overheard some of the pack members saying that the Alpha was visiting the park with his one true love and her daughter.
At first, I didn't believe the gossips until I called his office that morning and his assistant told me he had taken the day off to visit the park.
Leaving me to wonder when Louis became a fan of parks.
However, seeing how hopeful Zoya was, I decided to call Louis one more time. The phone rang several times before he answered.
I could hear a child's giggle as the phone got connected then came Louis's cold voice.
"What do you want?" He half yelled. More like he was trying not to be loud but his voice made it clear how mad he was. "I made myself clear enough when I said never to contact me while I'm working."
"But you're not at work now, are you, Louis?" I countered.
The line went quiet for a while, then I heard a soft sigh.
"Does that mean I'm lying ?" He scoffed. "Did you just call me a Liar, Nyssa?"
"I didn't say that...." I paused, trying to think of a way to explain myself without pissing him off. "I just wanted....I was just..."
"Then what is this about, Nyssa," he sounded impatient like he couldn't wait to be off the line. "Why have you called?"
I gulped. "Zoya....she..." I muttered with a heavy heart.
I shouldn't beg him to care for our child. I shouldn't beg him to be a father to our daughter but such was the case with Louis, I have to beg him every time to have him be a father to our daughter.
"....it's Zoya's birthday today and you promised to be here but you're not." I muttered, fists clenched so hard that I might bleed.
"It's Zoya's birthday? Oh, yes. It is Zoya's birthday," He answered his own question.
The line went silent for a while that I thought he hung up, but the steady breathing from the other side assured me that he was still there.
He was probably thinking of an excuse.
"How could you Nyssa?" He hissed. "How could you not remind me of her birthday? Is that so hard to do?" He huffed.
Really now?
So now it's my fault that he forgot our daughter's birthday?
Zoya had called him the day before to personally tell him of her birthday, she even reminded him of the cake cutting earlier that morning as he left for work and now he thinks it's my fault that he forgot. Really?
Louis was never one to forget things. He didn't forget Annie's birthday even after she left to go pursue her career six years ago, infact he always celebrated her even in her absence. He sends her gift every year, but he forgets our daughter's birthday every year and now he blames me?
I sighed heavily. I would do anything for my daughter, even if I have to take the blame for a fault that isn't mine.
"I'm sorry I didn't remind you," I muttered, my teeth clamped so tight that they might break. "But can you make it home soon? I mean...the cake she won't cut it without you."
The line went silent again, then Louis cleared his throat. "I'll be there soon."
"Thank yo..." I didn't get to complete the words before the line dropped.
He hung up.
I sighed. I don't know why he hates me so much.
It's been seven years.
Seven good years and Louis still hates me. He blames me for ruining his life when I was only a victim too.
Seven years ago someone had drugged Louis in a meeting and he somehow stumbled into my room. He forced himself on me but I had secretly been in love with him, so I let it happen.
Mad with anger and jealousy, Annie left the city to pursue her modeling career, and Louis had no choice but to marry me and name me his Luna.
After all, I was his true mate but he wanted nothing to do with me because he only had eyes for Annie.
Even after so many years he still hates me and he takes that hatred out on our child too.
I just wish Zoya wouldn't have to suffer because so much because of a crime I didn't even commit.
"He's not coming, is he?"
I turned to see Zoya standing behind me.
Shit!
"Hey cupcake why did you leave your party?" I smiled as I adjusted her dress, but I noticed her blue eyes dimmed and were laced with tears. "Oh dear, how long have you been there?"
She blinked, trying to keep her tears from falling. "Not long," she lied. "So, is Daddy coming?"
"Yes," I replied quickly.
"Really?" She asked, happiness evident in her voice. "He didn't forget?"
I nodded. "Of course, he would never forget your birthday."
We hurried back in and Zoya became happy once again. So happy that she couldn't stop telling everyone that her father was on the way and would finally be able to attend her birthday and cut the cake with her.
I had invited the entire pack to come my daughter's birthday, but most of the pack members didn't attend because they didn't seem me fit enough to be their Luna.
Especially since the Alpha didn't treat me any better.
Hours passed and there was still no sigh of Louis. I tried calling him but his number wouldn't go through, the phone was switched off.
Everyone left as soon as it became dark. The birthday was over, again Louis didn't attend our daughter's birthday.
"Daddy didn't come," Zoya muttered as she stared at the uncut cake.
"He probably goy caught up," I lied.
I squatted down to Zoya's height to comfort her, but I noticed that her nose was bleeding.
"Zoya, you're bleeding," I screamed as I picked her up and hurried to the Pack's hospital, but my daughter won't stop chanting,
"Daddy didn't come."
