She caught each husband's eye in turn, her fingers brushing Victor's wrist in the silent signal they'd developed for when she needed them alone. "Could we have a moment?" she asked softly, the question carrying weight beyond its simple words.
Voss's amber eyes locked onto hers. There was no teasing in them. No restraint softened by distance.
"When you let me lift you," he said, "I feel like I've won something."
Her breath caught, tumoring quickly from surprise to anticipation.
"Like I get to be the one between you and everything that wants to take," he continued.
