Chapter 20 - 20 - At the Adventurer's Guild

(Verc's POV)

The next morning arrived, and I decided to skip breakfast. I was not really feeling hungry anyway.

Instead— I headed straight toward the adventurer's guild.

Miguel, Geremie, and Albert had all told me to head here if I ever wanted to sell off any monster products. Apparently, the people here buy them at a pretty high price. They use those different monster parts to make strong weapons, sturdy armors, and even various potions to sell.

Anyway, I stopped a patrolling city guard to ask for directions, and he told me exactly which way I needed to go. I followed his instructions carefully... and I finally arrived in front of a massive establishment that stood three floors high. It looked just like an old mansion that I had only ever seen in movies before.

It was not just the guild building that caught my eye, though— this whole city looked like a place that I only see in animes and old medieval movies. Every single house was made of solid stones, and the streets were completely packed with all sorts of people going about their day.

The buildings were simple and built close together, with smoke coming from some of the chimneys. Even though it was just a relatively small city in this medieval setting, I was still very impressed to see a place like this in person. Seeing the heavy stone work and the busy crowds made me realize how far away from my old world I really was.

Moving on, I entered the establishment after I confirmed that it was the adventurer's guild... I was able to read the name on a sign hanging right outside its front door.

And upon getting in, I was immediately greeted by a place that was full of people eating their breakfast. It felt a lot more like a busy restaurant.

But the individuals sitting in there were different— they were all armed with weapons and covered up with various types of armors. My [Danger Sense] was also acting up and telling me that these people were actually quite strong.

Just then—

"Ah, you came!"

I heard a very familiar voice coming from my left side, and when I looked toward the source... I saw Albert and Geremie standing together.

They were both waving their hands as they approached me, I made sure to wave back at them.

"I did not expect to see the two of you here. Are you guys actually adventurers and not just mercenaries after all?"

I asked that as they got near me.

"No, we're just here to sell off some monster products we got. Everyone is welcome here at the adventurer's guild, whether they are mercenaries, soldiers, wanderers, or whatever. They don't really care about who you are."

Geremie explained that to me. Then, he told me that anyone can register in the adventurer's guild if they want. Based on the merits you get by completing the different quests they have— you can slowly rank up. That lets you enjoy some benefits like a discounted price on equipment, or the guild buying your monster products at a higher price, and things like that.

The adventurer's guild seems to work the same way as the ones I read about in manwhas and animes. A client will give them a job and some money. Then, after taking a small portion of that money for themselves, the guild will post the client's request as a quest. The rest of the money becomes the reward for finishing the task.

The higher your rank is, the better the quests you can take and the more you are prioritized by the staff.

"That is why mercenaries like us always go to the adventurer's guild. It's not like there are always wars going on, so we get most of our steady jobs here, to be honest."

Geremie ended his explanation with those words.

"That's really interesting."

I mumbled with genuine curiosity.

"Huh, why does it seem like you know so little about how the world works?"

Then, Albert suddenly cut in and said that. My face twitched a little bit at his question. I turned to look at him, and with a smile—

"Haha, I was just so focused on my job before and on my training because of my position as the captain that I simply did not have much time to learn about these things."

I answered with that lie. Fortunately, the two of them believed me easily since they saw me training so hard during the time we traveled together.

"Anyway, can you guys help me out? I want to sell some monster parts."

I asked that of them.

"Huh, did you secretly gather some parts during our travels? I thought you didn't pick anything up at all."

Albert mumbled to himself.

"No, I already had these from before. They have been in my bag the whole time we were traveling."

I shrugged my shoulders and told him that.

Moving on, the two of them led me over to a long reception area. I felt a few eyes watching me as we were walking through the room, but I just ignored them.

"This gentleman here wants to sell some monster products."

Geremie said that once we reached the counter.

"Is he a registered adventurer?"

The female worker asked. She looked at me then— but she quickly avoided my eyes not long after.

'Huh, I guess I really am quite handsome.'

I thought with a small smile on my face as I saw the worker blush a little bit.

"Tch—"

I heard Albert click his tongue when he saw that reaction as well, but I just ignored him.

"He is not registered."

Geremie answered the girl, and I gave a nod as confirmation.

"Do you want to register as one right now?"

The girl asked me. I immediately shook my head at the offer.

"Maybe later, but not right now."

I said that with a smile on my face, and I swear the receptionist looked like a bright red tomato when she faced me.

"Got it. Then, can I see what you want to sell...?"

She followed up, trying her best to act professional. I didn't waste any time either. From the shoulder bag that I had received from the girls back in the village— THUD!

I took out a pouch that was as big as a basketball and placed it on the table. It made a pretty loud sound.

"...?"

Geremie, Albert, the receptionist, and even some people near us all looked at the bag I placed down.

The receptionist took the pouch and opened it up. After taking out some of the contents... she held up a handful of [Black Scales].

"...!"

Her eyes widened a lot after seeing that. Geremie and Albert looked just as shocked as she was.

"Is this pouch full of [Black Scales] from [Dark Serpents]?"

The receptionist asked me. I just nodded my head and remained perfectly calm.

"How do you have so many of these...? These are very hard to come by because [Dark Serpents] live deep inside of caves. They are also strong and hard to see because of their natural color, so they can ambush and kill a lot of adventurers. And even if you did kill one, taking their scales off without damaging them and making them useless is insanely hard."

"But seeing these, they are all in perfect condition."

The receptionist explained that while looking at me with shock. Geremie and Albert were staring at the scales too.

A small crowd was starting to grow around me.

'Looks like these are more valuable than I thought they were.'

I smiled internally at the situation.

"Uhh, I spent some time in a cave for a reason that I cannot tell. I encountered a lot of [Dark Serpents] and I collected their scales. It was hard at first, but I got used to it, as you can see."

Then I told the receptionist that.

In truth, though, I just have to activate the skill and then deactivate it. The scales simply fall off effortlessly after that without being damaged at all.
