"Do I have a twin sister?" She questioned.
Mrs. Santiago stiffened like a bucket of ice water had been poured on her.
She quickly regained her posture, her eyes darkening on Verena.
"What did you just say?" She questioned back.
Verena's eyes narrowed at the woman. Her mother wasn't the best person, and her parents weren't either. And that meant they could be hiding secrets from us. Especially secrets about having a twin that she needed to know about.
"What nonsense are you saying?" She repeated. "Where did you hear that from?"
"I just asked a simple question, mother," Verena said, nearly snapping at the woman.
Anger suddenly rose in her, anger she hadn't felt for the longest time.
Her mother's reaction is more than enough to know what the answer was.
"But I don't need you to answer anymore," she added, walking away while Samantha followed beside her.
Mrs. Santiago watched Verena walk to the living room, her heart hammering against her ribs.
