The Chairwoman looked around her office quickly. Her eyes landed on a golf bag in the corner. She pulled out a club, the shiny metal head gleaming like a cold blade.
"It is one thing to be ungrateful after living off my money," she hissed, her voice shaking with rage. "But you have gone too far. It seems I haven't beaten you enough yet."
"Why did you do it?"
Unlike her mother, Elara remained perfectly calm. She stood still, her shadow stretching long across the floor. She stared directly at the woman who was breathing heavily, her face twisted in an ugly mask of anger.
"Why did you touch her?" Elara asked again.
She knew the truth of what happened. They took Lyra away without even asking Elara. Then, they ordered Lyra to stay away. When Lyra tried to speak up, they beat her. To finish it off, they threw some "compensation" money at her.
