Chapter 1 - The Wrong Call

Emma lay on her bed, staring at the dark ceiling. The power was out again. No fan, no lights—only silence. She picked up her phone, scrolling without interest.

Her phone suddenly rang.

Unknown Number.

Emma frowned. She almost rejected the call, but something made her answer.

"Hello?" she said softly.

There was a short pause. Then a calm male voice replied,

"Oh… I'm really sorry. I think I called the wrong number."

Emma smiled a little. "It's okay."

"I didn't disturb you, did I?" he asked.

"No," she said. "I was just feeling bored."

He laughed lightly. "Same here."

For some reason, his laugh felt warm.

"My name is Ryan," he said. "Since I already called, can we talk for a minute?"

Emma hesitated. She never talked to strangers.

But his voice felt honest.

"I'm Emma," she replied. "Just for a minute."

That one minute slowly turned into many.

They talked about small things—late nights, favorite music, and how silence sometimes feels heavy. Ryan listened carefully, like her words mattered.

"You listen really well," Emma said.

Ryan smiled. "I believe listening is more important than seeing."

Emma didn't understand why, but she liked the thought.

After some time, Emma said, "I should go now."

"Before you go," Ryan said softly, "do you think people can connect without seeing each other?"

Emma thought for a moment.

"Maybe," she said. "I think they can."

Ryan sounded happy. "I believe that too."

The call ended.

Emma put her phone down. The room was still dark—but her heart felt light. She didn't know Ryan's face, his life, or his truth.

Yet his voice stayed with her.

That night, two strangers connected—

without eyes,

without faces,

only with hearts.

And this was just the beginning.
