Peace never lasted long in the City Between Worlds.
The floating platforms drifted quietly under a pale silver sky, repaired but still carrying scars from the war against the Void. Survivors moved calmly, rebuilding, talking, and trying to believe the danger was finally over.
But Ethan could feel it.
Standing at the edge of the central platform, he closed his eyes. The Fate Mark on his chest pulsed—slow, uneven, almost restless. It wasn't pain. It was warning.
"Something's wrong," he murmured.
Lyria stepped beside him, her long hair swaying in the light breeze. "You've been saying that for days."
"I know," Ethan replied, opening his eyes. "Because it hasn't stopped."
Since the final battle, the silver light within him refused to settle. The Void was gone—but the silence it left behind felt unnatural, like the pause before a storm.
Kael approached, arms crossed. "The city's stable. No shadow movement. No fractures between worlds."
Selara stood a little apart, her sharp eyes scanning the horizon. "That's exactly what worries me."
They all turned toward her.
"When chaos disappears too quickly," Selara continued, "it usually means something worse is moving in the dark."
As if answering her words, the sky trembled.
A thin crack appeared above the city—not black like the Void, but dark blue, cold and sharp. The air grew heavy. The Fate Mark burned brightly against Ethan's chest.
"Everyone, step back!" Ethan shouted.
The crack widened, releasing a wave of pressure that forced everyone to brace themselves. From within the裂 opened space, silhouettes emerged—humanoid figures cloaked in shadow, their movements precise and calm.
They didn't attack.
They observed.
One of them stepped forward, its voice echoing unnaturally.
"Breaker of Fate… you have disturbed the balance."
Ethan clenched his fists. "Who are you?"
The figure tilted its head. "We are the Eclipsed Order. And your choices… have consequences."
Before anyone could react, the figures dissolved into fragments of blue-black light, vanishing as suddenly as they appeared. The裂 sealed itself, leaving the sky unchanged—but the calm was gone.
Silence fell.
Kael broke it first. "That wasn't the Void."
"No," Selara said grimly. "It was worse."
Lyria looked at Ethan, fear and determination mixed in her eyes. "They knew you. They called you by name."
Ethan's Fate Mark glowed faintly as he stared at the empty sky. "Then they're not here to destroy blindly."
He took a slow breath.
"They're here to control."
The City Between Worlds drifted on, unaware that a new war had just begun—one not of shadows and chaos, but of fate, choice, and control.
Ethan straightened, resolve burning in his eyes.
"If they think they can decide our future," he said, "then they've already made a mistake."
Because this time…
his heart would choose first.
