Chapter 46 - The Siege of Silver Platforms

The calm did not last.

The moment Ethan sealed the fracture, the sky above the City Between Worlds darkened unnaturally. Floating platforms—once stable and glowing—began to shake, their silver edges cracking like fragile glass.

Selara's expression hardened. "This isn't a random attack."

Kael drew his blade. "Figures. Peace never comes without a price."

Lyria looked up as shadows gathered above them. "They're surrounding us."

From the clouds emerged massive figures—Siege Shades, elite warriors of the Eclipsed Order. Unlike the Shadowborn, these beings were armored in dark crystal, their eyes glowing with cold intelligence.

"They've adapted," Selara said. "They know Ethan is the core."

Ethan stepped forward instinctively, Heart Core glowing steadily. "Then they'll come for me."

"No," Lyria said firmly, grabbing his arm. "They'll come for all of us."

A deafening roar echoed as the first Siege Shade crashed onto a nearby platform, its weight causing the structure to tilt violently. Another followed. Then another.

The siege had begun.

"Platforms are destabilizing!" Kael shouted. "If they fall, we fall with them!"

Ethan closed his eyes for a brief moment—not to fear, but to focus. The Heart Core responded instantly, silver light spreading from his chest like veins of energy.

"Everyone listen," he said, his voice calm but commanding. "We don't fight alone. We protect the platforms. Protect each other."

Selara nodded. "You're leading now."

The team moved fast.

Kael leaped into combat, clashing directly with a Siege Shade, sparks flying as dark crystal met steel. Lyria used her magic to reinforce weakened platforms, weaving light beneath their feet.

Ethan stood at the center.

Instead of attacking recklessly, he placed his hand on the platform beneath him. The Heart Core pulsed, sending stabilizing waves through the silver structure.

The platform stopped shaking.

"What did you do?" Kael yelled.

"I listened," Ethan replied. "The city is alive. It wants to survive."

The Siege Shades reacted immediately. Two of them charged Ethan, their blades aimed straight for his heart.

Ethan didn't dodge.

At the last second, a shield of pure intent formed around him—transparent, humming softly. The blades struck and shattered.

The Shades froze.

"They can't break it," Selara whispered. "That shield isn't magic… it's resolve."

Ethan raised his hand, not in anger, but in command. The silver light expanded, binding the Siege Shades in chains of energy formed from the city itself.

One by one, the enemy fell.

But then the largest shadow appeared.

A towering figure descended slowly, cloaked in void—its presence crushing, its gaze fixed solely on Ethan.

Kael swallowed. "Please tell me that's not another soldier."

Selara's voice was grim. "No. That's a Commander of the Eclipsed Order."

The commander spoke, its voice echoing like broken echoes of fate.

"Heartbearer… you defy destiny itself."

Ethan met its gaze without fear. "No. I choose beyond it."

The Heart Core burned brighter than ever.

The true battle had only begun.
