Chapter 92 - The Bond That Refuses to Die

The bond was supposed to be gone.

That was the Sovereign's promise.

Yet every time Caelara looked at Ethan, her heart behaved like a rebel—aching without explanation, trembling without permission.

She hated that confusion.

She loved it too.

A Fracture in the Silence

The journey continued through quiet lands, places untouched by war but heavy with loss.

People here smiled politely but lived separately—neighbors without warmth, families without closeness.

"They forgot how to feel," Selara said softly.

Ethan watched them with steady eyes. "Then we remind them how to choose."

Even without the bond, his presence changed the air.

That frightened the Sovereign more than any weapon.

Dreams That Shouldn't Exist

That night, Caelara dreamed.

She stood in a field of light, holding Ethan's hand.

She felt everything—love, fear, joy, grief.

When she woke, tears soaked her face.

"I felt him," she whispered.

Selara stiffened. "You shouldn't be able to."

"I know," Caelara replied. "But I did."

Across the camp, Ethan woke at the same moment, breathless.

He had dreamed of her smile.

The Sovereign Interferes

The sky cracked.

The Null Sovereign descended—not furious, but coldly precise.

"Your bond was removed," it said. "These echoes are anomalies."

Kael drew his blade. "Funny. You sound worried."

The Sovereign ignored him and turned to Ethan.

"You are inefficient," it said. "Your sacrifice should have ended resistance."

Ethan stepped forward. "You misunderstood something."

"What?"

"I didn't sacrifice love," Ethan said. "I trusted it."

Love Without Permission

The Sovereign raised its hand.

Pain surged through Ethan—but he did not scream.

Caelara screamed instead.

"Stop!"

She ran to Ethan's side, holding him tightly.

The moment her arms wrapped around him—

Light exploded.

Not destructive.

Connecting.

Threads of warmth spread between them, visible even to the sky.

The Sovereign staggered.

"No," it whispered. "That bond was erased."

Selara shouted, "You can't erase choice!"

The Bond Fights Back

Ethan felt it.

Not fully.

But enough.

Caelara's heart raced.

She could feel him—not as before, but differently.

Stronger.

Earned.

The Sovereign retreated, wounded and shaken.

"This defies structure," it said. "I will correct it."

And vanished.

After the Storm

Caelara pressed her forehead to Ethan's.

"I remember now," she said. "Not everything. But enough."

Ethan smiled softly. "We'll rebuild the rest."

Kael looked toward the horizon. "It's scared."

Selara nodded. "And that makes it dangerous."
