Cherreads

Chapter 8 - Chapter 8: Someone in the Water (2/8)

As a science student, Uchiha Jingyan arranged every bit of his time very strictly.

His mind was full of ideas… and every time one of them came true, he would gain a new skill.

But countless skills meant countless proficiencies—and countless hours needed to raise them.

Not every idea would be useful after being realized… so once the system approved it, testing and practical verification became necessary.

And right now—

He was very satisfied with the evaluation result of Fire Release: Mother-and-Child Great Fireball.

More than double the chakra, in exchange for more than double the power.

With the Ninjutsu Master bonus, it cost only a bit more than a normal Great Fireball—but its power was nearly five times greater!

A deal.

And most importantly…

His understanding of chakra attributes was growing deeper and deeper.

Given time, once he mastered chakra nature transformation, even more of his ideas could become reality!

For example… a super simple principle that even a middle school student knew:

Decompose Water Release!

Obtain hydrogen and oxygen!

Would a Hydrogen Release jutsu be possible?!

...

By the time the two of them finished training and recovered, it was already close to evening.

Jingyan, afraid to waste even a second, was refining his chakra.

Obito, on the other hand, started his endless complaining…

"I really don't get how your brain works…"

"A perfectly good Great Fireball, and you made it lay eggs?!"

This was something he never could have imagined.

And as for losing again today—Obito was, as usual, unwilling to accept it.

He always felt he was just a little bit away from winning…

But every time, it was just that tiny bit.

Damn it—thinking about it made him angrier!

He looked seriously at Jingyan, his tone suddenly full of determination.

"Let's fight again!"

"If I lose again, I'll treat you to Ichiraku ramen tonight!"

Beside him, Jingyan—who was refining chakra in his exhausted state—suddenly opened his eyes.

But not because of ramen.

"If you want to fight, go fight the guy hiding over there."

Jingyan nodded toward the small river.

He had noticed the other person five minutes ago.

He ruled out the Hyuga—if it were them, their weakened state just now would have been the best chance to attack.

Speaking of the Hyuga, Jingyan felt a little puzzled.

According to feedback from his clones, for a whole week, the Hyuga clan hadn't made any move.

In fact, Hyuga students from their class or nearby classes would even detour when they saw the two of them…

That made him curious about this person secretly watching them.

"Someone… in the water?"

Obito followed Jingyan's gaze and looked for a long time, but couldn't see anything unusual. His face was full of doubt.

However, his hands quietly moved to the kunai at his waist.

"Jingyan, I bet it's those Hyuga guys coming for revenge," Obito whispered.

"Last time we broke both their arms—they must've brought a lot of people this time!"

"I'll strike first. If things go bad, you run!"

His voice was low and serious.

They had just finished training—neither chakra nor stamina had fully recovered.

But… Jingyan should be in the same condition!

Obito had already made up his mind.

This time, he couldn't drag Jingyan into trouble again!

"Hey! There's no one in the water at all…"

He deliberately raised his voice. "Don't tell me you're scared of losing and buying me ramen?"

As soon as he finished speaking, the kunai behind his back suddenly flew toward the river!

But his clumsy act didn't fool the enemy.

The moment the kunai left his hand, a figure burst out of the water.

After a gorgeous 360-degree spin in midair, he landed steadily on the water's surface.

The movement was smooth and flawless—definitely an expert.

Only his messy white hair, soaked by water, slightly ruined the cool image…

When the two saw who it was, their expressions turned strange.

It was a boy, wearing a half-mask, a short sword on his back, dripping wet, water still falling onto the river's surface.

That iconic white hair confirmed his identity.

Their classmate.

The top student of first-year Ninja Academy.

Obito's number-one rival.

Hatake Kakashi.

"Wait… why is it you spying on us?"

After confirming it wasn't the Hyuga, Obito relaxed and his arrogant tone returned.

"I'm not here for you," Kakashi replied coolly.

His gaze passed over Obito and landed on Jingyan.

"Uchiha Jingyan… I want to spar with you."
