Chapter 7 - Brainwashed (Part 2)

[Scene: At the table...]

The warm glow of the restaurant lights reflected softly off polished wooden tables, the steady rhythm of clinking dishes and quiet conversation. At a corner booth, Miles Morales leaned forward slightly, elbows on the table, his voice lowered just enough to keep their conversation contained. "So, the last place he was seen… was Miami," he said, glancing between the others. "That's what Fury's people confirmed."

Across from him, Luz Noceda took a sip of her soda, her brows knit together in concern "Yeah," she said. "And then he just vanished. No sightings. nothing. That's not normal."

Beside Miles, Iron Spider-Man sat upright, fingers steepled in thought. "Demons are not the type to disappear unless it benefits them," he added. "If anything, that makes it worse. It means It's planning something....''

Luz sighed, setting her drink down. "Whatever it is," she muttered. ''I hope we stop it soon...''

There was a brief silence. Then, Anne Boonchuy arrived at their table, balancing a tray of drinks with ease. "Alright, strategists," she said with a small smile, placing the tray down with a sing song tone. ''Refills!''

Luz spoke. "Oh, Anne, you really don't have to—"

"I insist," Anne said warmly, already sliding a fresh drink toward her.

Miles smirked. "See? Best place in New York."

Anne gave a soft laugh and then slid into the booth beside them, her tone shifting just slightly. "So… any word from Nick Fury?"

The trio exchanged looks.

Miles shrugged. "Still nothing."

Iron Spiderman shook his head. "If Fury hasn't reached out, it means he either doesn't have enough yet… or whatever he found is bigger than expected."

Luz Noceda leaned back slightly, exhaling. "Great. Love that for us."

Anne nodded slowly, trying to stay optimistic. "Well… you guys, we, have handled worse before, right?"

They all slightly nodded.

Anne's attention drifted.

Her eyes moved toward the window.

Just casually at first. Then, they froze. "…Guys."

Luz immediately noticed the shift. "What?"

Anne didn't answer right away.

She was staring.

Outside, people were running.

A man nearly slipped on the sidewalk trying to get away. A group of pedestrians shoved past each other in panic. Someone screamed.

A car was flipped violently through the air before crashing down onto its roof, metal screeching as it skidded across the street and slammed into a streetlight, bending it on impact. Inside the restaurant, everything went silent for half a second. Then chaos. People screamed. Chairs scraped loudly against the floor as customers ducked and scrambled away from the windows. Luz stood up quickly, her heart racing. "…Okay, that's bad!''

Iron Spider was already on his feet. "Everyone! stay away from the windows!" he called out, his voice cutting through the panic. Miles stood beside him, quickly pulling his mask down. Anne stepped forward slightly, her expression tightening as she looked outside again.

Luz swallowed, her voice quieter now. "…We're not waiting for Fury anymore, are we?"

Miles shook his head; eyes locked on the street. "Nope."

Iron Spider's mechanical limbs sprang behind him, ready. "We move now!''

Anne looked back at them—

then toward the terrified people inside her restaurant.

"…Go," she said firmly. "I'll make sure everyone here stays safe!"

Miles gave a quick nod. "Be careful."

Outside, another distant crash echoed through the street.

The restaurant doors burst open.

Cold night air rushed in as Miles Morales, Luz Noceda, and Iron Spider-Man sprinted out into the street. Chaos swallowed them whole. Sirens blared in the distance. Civilians ran past them in frantic waves, some screaming, others too stunned to even make a sound. Smoke curled into the night sky from shattered storefronts and overturned vehicles.

And then another crash. All three of them turned.

Down the street, under flickering streetlights and broken glass.

a massive green figure stood in the middle of the destruction.

The Hulk. He roared as he lifted another car overhead—effortless, like it weighed nothing—and hurled it straight through the front of a clothing store. The impact exploded in a shower of glass and twisted metal.

For a moment, no one spoke.

"…Is that… Bruce Banner?" Luz's voice trembled slightly. "W-what is he doing?!"

Miles' eyes widened behind his mask. "Holy crap....''

The Hulk turned. His massive frame pivoted toward them, shoulders rising and falling with heavy, enraged breaths. His eyes locked onto the trio. They were red.

He ROARED. The sound tore through the street like thunder. And he charged. Each step shook the pavement beneath them, cracking concrete as he barreled forward like an unstoppable force of nature.

Miles snapped into motion instantly, dropping into a ready stance.

Iron Spider stepped forward, mechanical legs snapping outward with sharp metallic precision, anchoring him to the ground. "We have to lead him away from the civilians," he said quickly. "Luz—do you have anything that can put him down? Or put him to sleep?''

Luz swallowed hard, her hands trembling slightly as she stepped forward. "I… I can try."

Iron Spiderman nodded once. "Then let's do this."

Luz took a deep breath. Then, her eyes ignited. Golden light flared around her as glyphs began to spiral into existence beneath her feet, glowing symbols layering over one another in rapid succession. Energy surged upward in a powerful burst.

Her form shifted, expanded, and transformed.

Titan Luz.

She rose slightly above the ground, her presence now radiant and commanding, power crackling through the air around her. Miles looked up briefly. "…Okay. That's still the coolest thing I've ever seen."

But there was no time admire it.

"HULK SMASH!" The Hulk lunged forward, arm swinging with devastating force. Miles quickly fired a web, yanking himself upward just in time as the punch shattered the pavement where he had been standing.

Iron Spiderman leapt sideways, mechanical legs digging into the ground as he redirected himself, launching forward to intercept. "Hey, big guy!" Miles shouted, flipping through the air. "Over here!"

He shot another web—this time at Hulk's shoulder—yanking hard to pull the giant's attention away from the buildings.

It worked.

Hulk turned, swinging wildly at him. Iron Spider seized the moment, launching himself forward, mechanical arms wrapping briefly around Hulk's torso to try and redirect his momentum, but Hulk grabbed one of the metallic limbs mid-motion and ripped it away. "Whoa! okay, that's new!"

Iron Spiderman quickly was thrown backward, crashing into a parked car.

Luz raised her hands, energy gathering between her palms. "Okay… okay… focus…"

Glyphs formed rapidly in the air. ''Now, don't make this anymore difficult, Brucey....'' Luz said.

She then slammed her hands down. A massive surge of magic erupted toward Hulk, wrapping around him in glowing restraints that froze his legs in place and coated his arms in crystalline ice.

For a second, it worked. But Hulk strained, roared, and shattered it. Ice exploded outward. Magic fractured into sparks.

Luz staggered slightly. ''Okay! That didn't work at all!''

Miles landed beside Iron Spider, helping him back up. "You good?"

"Yep, never been better...'' Iron Spiderman muttered, his body aching a bit. "We need to keep moving. He can't stay here."

Hulk broke into a full sprint again, rage completely unchecked.

Miles fired a web and launched forward. Iron Spider followed, propulsion kicking in as he vaulted across the street with Luz following behind him with her flying owl staff.

The Hulk continued to give chase, following behind their every move like a predator. Citizens screamed and cars swerved to get out of the hulk's way. He got closer and closer, quickly reaching out a hand to grab Luz on her flying owl staff. Luz, through a quick burst of magic, managed to distance herself. A soundwave of air from the burst caused nearby windows from buildings and cars to shatter. Hulk let out a roar as Luz shoulder glanced and stuck her tongue out.

The hulk continued to tear through the street below like a living wrecking ball, smashing through parked cars and scattering anything in his path. Each leap sent cracks spidering across the pavement, his roar echoing up between the buildings like thunder chasing lightning. Above them, Luz Noceda soared forward, gripping her owl staff as wind whipped past her face, her glowing eyes locked on the chaos below. "Keep him moving!" she shouted.

Miles shot a webline forward, swinging around a corner. "Trust me! I am very motivated to keep moving!"

Iron Spider vaulted ahead, mechanical limbs extending and retracting with precision. Then suddenly, he slowed. "…Oh, guys?" he said, his tone shifting.

Miles swung beside him. "What?"

Iron Spider pointed downward. A busy intersection. Cars packed bumper-to-bumper.

And in the middle of it, a small sedan.

Inside, a family.

And the Hulk was heading straight for them.

"…Oh no," Miles breathed.

"Alright, Change of plans!" Iron Spiderman snapped.

In perfect sync, all three heroes shifted direction mid-motion. Web-lines snapped.

Momentum redirected. They veered sharply cutting across the street, drawing the Hulk away.

"HEY, BIG GUY!" Miles shouted, firing a web that smacked against Hulk's shoulder. "Wrong way!"

The Hulk turned instantly, rage redirected. He roared and followed.

The trio led him fast away from the intersection, away from the civilians down a narrowing stretch of buildings into a dead-end alley. They landed almost simultaneously. Boots and feet hit concrete. Magic flickered. Metal limbs braced.

They turned ready.

Hulk burst into view. His massive frame filled the alley entrance, eyes blazing with unrestrained fury as he roared and charged straight at them.

Miles dropped into a crouch. "Now, Luz!"

Luz stepped forward, wielding her owl staff.

Her breath steadied, her eyes focused.

She traced the glyph mid-air.

A soft glow. Different from before. Gentler. The symbol shimmered with a quiet, almost soothing energy of a lullaby.

She raised it to her lips and blew. The glyph floated forward like a drifting ember.

Soft.

Harmless looking.

Until it reached the Hulk.

It burst.

Lavender mist spread outward, wrapping around the Hulk's face in a soft, glowing haze. The Hulk snarled, swinging wildly. He tried to push through it.Tried to shake it off but his movements slowed. His swings grew heavier. Less controlled.

His breathing staggered. "…Rrrrgh"

His steps faltered.

The rage in his eyes flickered confusion.

His massive body swayed.

The Hulk lifted his arm one last time as if trying to fight it.

He collapsed. The impact shook the alley. Concrete cracked beneath him as the massive green giant hit the ground, finally still. The lavender mist slowly faded into the air.

Miles blinked. "…Did… did that actually work?"

Iron Spiderman slowly lowered his stance, scanning for movement. "…I think it did."

Luz exhaled, her shoulders dropping slightly as the glow around her dimmed. "…It's a lullaby glyph," she said softly. "It doesn't hurt him… just forces his body to rest."

Miles let out a breath. "Okay… yeah… let's—let's just keep using that one."

The Hulk didn't move. Only the slow rise and fall of his chest confirmed it that he was asleep.

Iron Spider's mechanical limbs hid themselves back into his suit. "…We should be more careful.'' he said quietly.

Miles nodded.

"Yeah… thing is Bruce doesn't just lose control like that for no reason.'' Miles said as he stepped toward the hulk.

Luz looked down at the sleeping giant. Her expression shifted. Concern replacing relief.

"…Something must have caused him to do this.''

And somewhere far beyond the alley, unseen, a faint flicker of blue static crackled across a nearby security camera. It zoomed in on the team of heroes as they stood over the hulk, then onto the chaotic streets of innocent civilians running away from the scene and the destruction that was left from the green avenger's wrath.
