Chapter 5 - CHAPTER FIVE: Fight club

I walk in to see Purplepool seated on his throne, his pitch-white eyes slowly scanning me from head to toe.

"Violetpool. Glad you could make it," he says.

I lift my gaze, expression stone-cold, my violet bangs falling over one eye.

"What did you call me in for, my God?" I ask, hands behind my back, posture straight.

"It's about Blackpool," he says calmly. "He crossed dimensions. He's on Earth, Universe 23512." His head tilts, resting against his fist, dark purple hair sliding over his brows. "As you know, Nullpools are prohibited from revealing themselves to lower lifeforms."

My jaw tightens.

"I want you to execute him," Purplepool continues. "If the humans are alive. If not — wait for extraction.".

I bow without bending.

"Understood, my God."

I turn and leave.

The castle halls echo beneath my boots, dual blades resting at my hips.

Then—

Whitepool bumps into me on purpose.

He turns, smirking. "Nice haircut. That big-ass forehead of yours used to blind me — honestly, you could've used it as a weapon."

I stare at him, half-lidded.

He steps closer. "You actually look better with bangs—"

"Move," I say flatly. "I don't have time for your disgusting, pervy bullshit."

He sighs dramatically. "Why do you bitches always play hard to get?" He pinches the bridge of his nose. "Whatever. It's not like I can't pull someone hotter."

He steps aside, grinning, clearly expecting a reaction.

He doesn't get one.

I walk past him without slowing, feeling his eyes burning into my back.

I head toward the space pod station — used to travel between universes. All we have to do is input the universe and planet.

Once I step inside, the door seals behind me automatically.

Universe: #23512

Planet: Earth

The pod powers on, then launches me into the bright green sky at 899,532,157 mph. Space hits — and then I teleport

BACK ON EARTH…

"Wait, Whitepool said that to you?" Blackpool said. "Man, I always wanted to be like him! Well… except for the pervy part. I wouldn't do that." His eyes drifted aside.

I know he wouldn't.

He's not a bad vek.

"Hey — I just realized!" he says, sitting cross-legged across from me.

I'm sitting the same way.

"I skipped school today just to talk to you. Wait… now that I think about it — did you have something to do with the security not shocking me when I was tugging my collar?" He tilts his head.

I nod.

"Yes. I tracked your location, found where they were holding you, and knew that if the humans killed you instead of me, I would be punished for it. So I killed the guard monitoring you."

His eyes widen.

"Woah — you killed him?!"

"Good," he says immediately, his tone turning cold.

"That worthless government. Trying to kill the one thing that can protect Earth. Maybe he was innocent, but he wanted to hurt me. He deserved it."

He crosses his arms.

I've heard humans talk about him killing criminals, but I didn't realize he took it this seriously.

Then he lights up again.

"Oh! I'm also talking to this human girl named Ashley! She's really cool — like… actually interesting."

He smiles softly.

"And I kinda… feel something nice when I'm around her…"

He looks away, rubbing the back of his neck.

His skin's turning red.

I've never seen that before.

Fascinating.

"I don't know — I just feel really good when I talk to her. Even when I think about her."

He laughs awkwardly.

"That's actually why I'm in school. I just wanted to see her again."

I tilt my head.

"You must really like this human," I say.

"That's… nice. I don't really feel that way about humans. I don't see the appeal."

"I get that," he says quickly.

"I mean — most humans are boring. But Ashley's different."

His face flushes again when he says her name.

7:52 A.M

I sit in class, waiting to see Ben walk through the door.

Class hasn't even started yet, but he's usually here by now…

I don't even know why I care.

Am I really that easy…?

All someone has to do is treat me good, and suddenly I miss their presence…

God. I'm pathetic.

I look down at my desk, eyes half-lidded.

Then—

Blood.

Not real. Not there. But everywhere.

My breath catches.

The room feels wrong.

I slowly lift my head.

Blackpool is leaning over my desk.

My body goes cold.

"Hey, Ashley," he said softly.

My heart slams into my ribs.

He grabs my head then immediately pulls me in. I try to fight back and resist but his strength is too much.

He laughs at me, he laughs at me struggling to break from his grip.

"HAHAAHAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHAAHAHAA!!!"

"No wonder you have no friends! How can anyone be friends with a weak little human like you!" He said loudly.

"Let me go!! Stop!!!" I cried "please!!!" My vision started to blur as tears run down my cheek.

He giggles, now having blood dripping down his mouth. He lets go of me.

I watch him with fear in my eyes, then i realized.

My arms were gone.

And he was holding them. Taking bites out of them.

He laughs at my realization and uses my arm to point at me while continuing to laugh.

"GO AWAY!!!!" I screamed.

Suddenly, everything was back to normal.

Everyone stared at me with weird looks.

8:03 A.M.

My mom picks me up from school.

"Do i need to get you a psychiatrist? Hm? Do i?" My mom says with annoyance "I'm not paying child support for a girl who acts out in class! Do you think paying for your education is cheap!?" She shouts. I look down, clutching down on my pants quietly.

I said nothing.

She continues driving, continuing to rant on and on, angrily, making me feel worse inside.

I couldn't speak. I didn't know how to anymore. I just felt hurt.

This is all Blackpools fault.

I hate Blackpool.

8:31 A.M.

Me and Violetpool just walk around LA, both of us in human form.

"Aren't you literally wanted?" She said with her brow rasied.

I nod with a grin.

"Yup. I guess I'm just so hot even the government wants me" my grin grew wider "i bet even you want me!" I exclaimed.

She huffs

"As if. Trust me, I'm seriously not into you." She says flatly, eyes half lidded.

"Good, because either way! I only got eyes for Ashley!" I stated, my hands still i my pockets.

But If anyone got in the way of that then I'll just have to kill them.

"Hey, since Ashley's still at school let's go do something!" I smiled cheefully "i think we should go to the movies! Or the beach, or the uh-uh-uh-uh—sewers!"

Violetpool crosses her arms and shrugs.

"I don't care." She looks to the side "I guess the sewers? Anything to be away from the nasty humans."

"BET!!!"

So we head there to the sewers. A place i would chill at once and awhile before all this bullshit with the government.

AT THE SEWERS…

We walk through the sewers.

And as we walk through the sewers, we hear cheering and grunts coming from the distance. We both glance at eachother with concerned looks.

We follow the sounds. As we get closer, the sounds get louder and louder.

We follow the sounds, the cheering getting louder and louder the deeper we go. The tunnels get narrower, pipes dripping above us, water sloshing under our feet. The noise is way too organized to just be random people.

Then we see it.

A broken wall ahead, cracked open like something punched straight through it. Light flickers from the other side. Voices. Shouting. Laughing. Yelling.

We peek inside.

There's a huge underground space packed with people surrounding a circle. Two guys are in the middle beating the absolute shit out of each other while the crowd cheers them on, some screaming, some laughing, some holding money in the air.

Violetpool blinks.

"…Is this a fight club?"

I grin.

"Oh hell yeah."

They all turn to us.

They all turn toward us.

"AYE! Who the hell you two supposed to be?!" one of them snaps, eyeing me up and down.

"I'm Ben! And this is — VIOLET!" I step forward.

"Watch your tone, bruh. You don't run nothing here," a brown-skinned dude says.

"Just so you know," I say, glaring at him, "me and her are strong as hell."

He shoves me. I shove him back — he crashes into the wall hard.

"DAYUUUM!!!" the crowd explodes.

"Yo — HOW?!" someone shouts.

"Lowkey, run a one-on-one with me," the winning fighter says. "You look pretty strong."

The crowd looks at him crazy.

"Bro, you good?!" someone yells.

"Relax, I got this. Y'all know I'm not losing to some broke ass, ugly ass, boy like him." He thumbs at me with nonchalance

"HEY!" I snap.

I charge at him and throw my fist at him but he dodges, then smacks the back of my head.

"Weave" he grins. "Chill, broke boy. We gotta start with introductions first." He puts his hands on his hips.

"I'm Gabriel" he says calmly. "I win every fight. No matter how strong my opponent is, i always win." He smirks.

"So, the rules are simple. No lethal blows, any hit that can kill the opponent is off limits, cuh. We can't have members dying now, you feel?" He explained.

I nod then put my fist up.

"That's cool, I'm not trying to kill anyone anyways!" I smirked.

He puts his fist up.

"Let's run this fade then!"

He rushes me first.

Fast.

I barely block before he throws a combo straight at my face — jab, hook, elbow — I duck the last one and stumble back.

"DAMN," someone shouts.

He grins. "You slow."

I swing, but pull my punch at the last second. My fist barely grazes his shoulder.

He blinks. "You holding back?"

I shrug. "Maybe."

He scoffs and charges again, throwing a knee at my ribs. It hits. Hard. I slide back a few steps, coughing a little.

The crowd starts hyping him up.

"YEAHHHH!"

"GET HIM!"

He keeps coming. Punch to my jaw. Elbow to my chest. Another hit to the back of my head. I stagger but don't fall.

"Bro," he laughs, shaking his head. "You trash."

I clench my fists.

I swing again — slower. Lighter. Still holding back. He dodges and cracks me across the face.

My head snaps to the side.

Something inside me twitches.

"Chill," I mutter under my breath.

He rushes me again.

I dodge once.

Twice.

Third time — I stop holding back.

My fist slams into his face.

The impact sounds like a gunshot.

His body launches backward, flying straight into the crowd. People scream and dive out of the way as he crashes through them, rolling across the concrete before going completely still.

Silence.

Blood leaks from his mouth. From his nose. His eyes don't move.

Out cold.

The entire room freezes.

I blink, staring at my hand.

"My bad guys, I couldn't help myself." I spoke calmly, shrugging it off.

One of the brown skinned members stand up after checking Gabriel's pulse.

"On the dead homies you must be crazy if you think you can run up in here, fight my dawg, then punch him so hard he goes flying into the us." He said with dark tone. "Here's how we gonna do this, cuh…"

He turns to me.

"You have about 2 seconds to head out before we pop both yall asses, you hear."

All the members pull out glocks, aiming it at us.

I step back toward Violetpool. She leans towards me from the side and whispers…

"Can't we kill these guys?"

I turn my head towards her with disbelief

"No! That's not what heroes do!" I shouted under my breath. She sighs and shakes her head.

"Listen guys, how about you all put your guns down and we just have another fade—"

They didn't want another fade.

Bullets crumbled against our skin and fell to the floor.

"Alright then."

20 SECONDS LATER…

Me and Violetpool stand over all the brutalized bodies of the members. All of them, killed in different, brutal ways.

Gabriel finally wakes up.

"The fuck…?" He said drowsly.

We turn to him, I stare down at him. My human disguise already gone.

"Blackpool…" he muttered before I kicked him with comsic force to knock him out again. All it did was make more blood run down his face.

"Welp. That takes care of that!" I cheered with a smile. "Let's head out now!"

Me and Violetpool turn to the exit and walk towards it.

"Hey Violetpool…" I turned to her as we continued walking.

She turns back at me with half lidded eyes.

"Hm?"

"I killed like…17 humans my entire time on earth! Pretty cool, right?" I flexed with a smirk.

"Really? That's cool. Good job" she replied.

"Thanks, V!"

"V..?" She asked with a confused look.

"Yeah! You don't mind it, right?" I asked.

She shrugs and continues walking.

"It's fine. I'll just call you B then."

I smiled at her and finally looked forward again.

I'm kinda glad she likes me enough to accept nicknames. I remember having a small crush on her back then. But now, I got eyes for someone else!

Ashley.

Man…I wonder what time it is.
